So in another thread it seem more then a few people say they don't like alcohol so I thought I would make a new post with a poll about it.

So I don't like to drink. in fact, I don't drink at all. I have tasted bear and hard liquor but have never been drunk (all though, I was wasted on morphine in the hospital once when I had to get my face sewn back together after smashing it into the window of a min van when riding my bike). I never started drinking for a few reasons. I have 3 older brothers and when they and there friends where teenagers, they would drink as much as they could all night and day until they where throwing up on them self's and passing out on the floor, I don't think I saw anyone under the age of 40 drink responsibly until I was in my early 20's!  so when my friends started drinking, I really had do want to because it never fun at all to me. much later in life I have found out that I have a ISTJ personality and it can be common for that type personality to not drink a lot or at all because we don't like have less control over our selves or our surroundings, I never really had the need to turn off my brain so to speak. if there was a drug that would make me smarter and more focused and more in tune with stuff I my do that recreationally but something that makes me dumber and numb is not very appealing to me.

how about every one else?

I didn't like drinking at first, I tased beer and wine and didn't really like them too much of course I would later find out that I didn't like them because they were cheap and shitty. Once I tasted the good stuff I started to see the appeal, not of getting so hammered that you barely remember your own name which I still don't understand but of having a drink or two every now and then. Drinking is okay in moderation of course if someone dosen't want to do it it is not really the end of the world either.

I'm the type of guy who only drinks if everyone else is as well, a recreational drinker if you will. I've had alcohol over my place plenty, but after everyone else leaves I don't even crack open a single bottle for myself. I just don't see the point in getting hammered if no one is there with me to talk to. Seems rather pointless.

Also, I use the term hammered lightly because I've never been drunk. I'm an Irish guy so that might seem surprising, but I hold alcohol amazingly well and even after having several drinks it doesn't even faze me.

Regardless, I don't think alcohol is required to have fun nor is it for everyone, so I don't judge if someone doesn't want to drink, even with friends.

After all, somebody's gotta be the designated driver.

I've tried alcohol in the past, and I didn't really enjoy the experience - to be honest, the only time I can see someone enjoying alcohol is when they want to get drunk, because that stuff tastes awful to me :D

I've never drunk and don't plan to, if that's what you mean. I had to watch what years of abuse did to someone close to me.

Let's just say once you've see a 63 year old man that looks to be in his 80s and has the health to match it makes the idea much less appealing.

There are a few different beers I enjoy occasionally. I like Guinness sometimes, not very often. Two beers I really like are Redd's Apple Ale and Redd's Strawberry Ale. The apple one tastes just like fizzy apple cider.... it's my Applejack beer   and obviously the strawberry one tastes like strawberries. They're quite refreshing.

I don't really care for the alcohol part and if these beers were non-alcoholic it'd be fine by me.

I'm not against a good glass of fine wine with a steak dinner or some such meal that calls for it. In those settings it's entirely appropriate and adds an extra layer to the meal.

But I don't care for beer or most of the rest of the cheap "get drunk quick" stuff you can get at the local store. That stuff's nasty and doesn't even smell good. I don't see the attraction there.

I love alcohol.  It's one of the few joys of my life.

I used to get blackout drunk when I was younger, but I never get that bad anymore because I had a pretty embarrassing thing and yeah... lol

I would rather drink with people, but I don't mind drinking alone.  It's nice to have a glass of whatever before I go to bed, I don't get drunk by myself.

As for flavor, I used to hate beer, because it's gross and bitter.  But I had Blue Moon pumpkin ale and it was so good.  For everything else, I like flavors, not straight alcohol.  my 'girly' mixed drinks as other people call them.

I think thats the main reason me and my friends usually end up not drinking, but enjoying a certain herb recently legalized by the state we live in  B)

I have very rarely drank since turning 21. I don't hate beer, but I don't care for it that much either. I know there are better drinks out there, of course, but I think I'll stick with good 'ol non-alcoholic stuff for now. ^_^

I drink in moderation, mostly good red wines. A glass of red with dinner is a lovely way to round out a meal. (Cold apple cider on a hot summers day is particularly nice as well.) Cocktails are a rare treat when I'm out at a bar or restaurant, but I love to indulge in a Pina Colada or Tequila Sunrise now and then. I drink for the taste, although I do enjoy the warm fuzzy feeling of being slightly tipsy.

I don't like the taste of most spirits on their own, so I'm not inclined to drink hard liquor. Unless it's in a very nice cocktail, in which case it's delicious. Being drunk from spirits is a very different sensation to being drunk on wine and cider, anyway. (Spirits don't give me that 'fuzzy' feeling, I just lose clarity and inhibition. It's harder to tell how drunk I am until it's too late, as well.)

I also can't stand beer. Wine and cider are definitely where it's at!

Had some brief experiences with alcohol when I turned 18. Didn't care for it at all. I simply decided to never drink alcohol again and 10 years later I'm still sticking to it. If I have kids, I don't want them to ever have to see me drunk.

I can't drink the stuff. Anything with alcohol has negative effects on me that nobody would expect, least of all myself. It goes right through me in about ten seconds. I mean "my insides just turned to liquid" in ten seconds.

I've never had a positive experience with alcohol, in addition to the above. I have zero reason to drink. It might taste interesting, sure, but the cons far outweigh the pros for me.

I am perpetually surrounded by various forms of alcohol on a weekly basis, almost entirely in a religious context. It's pretty easy to turn away from it in favor of a nice piece of sponge cake.

I'm 27 and I think I've only had... 20 beers or so over the years. I can tolerate one or two of the weak junk now and then if at a party, but you'll never catch me sitting at a bar hammering them. I did get smashed once with vodka mixers with my ex, never again.

Basically I can't stand beer, it's all just bitter stuff to me. Won't touch wine, even the smell is enough to give me a headache. The hard stuff is even worse IMO, why anyone would like drinking that throat burning stuff is beyond me.

Call me a wuss, but if I want alcohol for some reason, I'll grab a case of Mike's Hard Lemonade or something like that. It's gotta not taste like fermented sewage water if I'm going to actually enjoy myself instead of cringe on every sip.

I had hard cider a few days after I turned 21. After one sip I decided "No" and asked for a Coke instead.

I don't think I'll be ordering any more alcoholic drinks when I go out to eat. It tasted horrible.

Well, I think that's a bit unfair to judge all alcoholic drinks off of just one.

It's like if my first soda ever was Mountain Dew and I took one sip and swore off all of them based off of that one drink.

Maybe I'll try it again some other time I go out to eat (thank you brain), but eh. I didn't really like it the first time.

I understand.

My first alcoholic drink was a Blue Moon because someone said they were good, and after drinking a few sips I was like "Ha ha! Good one...".
