So Miss Cheerilee... a teacher... walking along with Big MacIntosh... a student... that's kind of disturbing.

Well, we all know how Big Mac feels know

And lol, they did it! They finally just went all out, and turned into "My Little Degrassi:Trixies school survival guide"

I hope the movie isn't like that short.

Anywho, this song was alright. Although, the video itself is kinda stereotypical towards teenage girls, always depending on their goddamn phone!

Song was ok, some of the visual gags were hilarious (Pinkie riding herself, her funhouse mirror image being reflected as normal and not even in the same position with AJ clearly freaked out, Fluttershy beating up on Discord, etc)

Also, Derpy

Back when Shake Your Tail! was released, I called that one the worst RR short.

Well, I take that back. This makes SYT! look good. PDfF is easily the worst.

The best part is easily the gags. Spike beat Dash and AJ, the funhouse mirror of "normal" Pinkie, Fluttershy beating up the Discord doll are rather funny.

The worst, though, is the cringeworthy, soulless song, and because it overlaps every part of the short, it sucks the investment out immediately. Firstly, it really hammers the "friendship" theme in. Secondly, the instrumental composition and lyrics are extremely generic and nowhere pleasing to listen to. I'm sure you can find songs from Hannah Montana and the High School Musical series that are better than this.

And one other thing that really makes this one so bad: It stereotypes teenaged girls as those who can't help but stare at the screen and constantly text.

I don't think the movie ever said if she was a teacher or not, she could easily be a TA

Just a thought

Anyway, I liked some of the visual gags, and I thought the things with the text messages and the cutie marks were, well, cute

But aside from visuals, this was easily my least favorite short

When I saw in there, it was the mane six have their phones at the park and there was a featured song on this exclusive short.

After a finale with an over 9000 epicness battle scene, we ended up with a generic teen life short. -_-

The song is fine. Though, it would be a lot better if they put the guitars in front of the mix, not use a talentless drum machine, and make the lyrics a little bit less annoying. If that was how the song turned out, the name 'Rainbow Rocks' will make sense than ever... img-2760245-1-ahihihi.gif

The music video would make a perfect commercial for mobile carriers, promoting their 'UNLICALL AND TEXT' service... img-2760245-2-ahihihi.gif

  • 2 weeks later...

Meant to post in here way sooner, but I really enjoyed this video! ^^

Although, I think Applejack should have won that hammer contest thing.

Now that I think of it, wasn't there apart in an episode where Dash hit the bell, then AJ knocked it off the stand?

Take that, Hasbro!

Also, just noticed that their cutie marks are on their face, how adorable. ^^

I wonder why they sent text messages of their cutie marks? Oh well, at least I got to see Twilight's. ^^

You know, until recently I was a teeny-tiny bit resentful against the recent developments in communication technologies, all those iPhones, Instagrams, Twitters, etc. I saw them as things that girls just, sort of, stuck their heads really far into, akin to ostriches, and thus did not see, pay attention or care for anything else.

But then I sorta was shown that some things, amongst which "selfies", could be beneficial or amusing. This does not mean I have changed my mind that much, and, still, for me a group of girls that go out and only stare at their phones, even though they are with each-other is a truly unpleasant sight, yet when I watch this short what I see is not some stereotypical teenage girls, who twitter all the time they are supposed to be together... but quite the opposite - I see six very good friends, who are out to have fun with each-other, using modern phones as a means to get the most fun and laugh, out of their experience and share it with everyone. All the while being better connected. I don't think whoever came up with all those new communication protocols could have asked for a better use of them. :)

Open your mind and just be happy for other people.  :P

I apologise, but I simply had to let you know it is a design choice (the legs, I mean).  :)

It seemed off to me, too, at first, but now I love it. :)

The designers made the decision to make their models like this, it is not to be justified, defended or explained, it is simply what they wanted to do, like painters decide how they will paint their masterpieces, as an example - Mr. Picasso's paintings are quite unorthodox, but this does not mean they are inferior or wrong in any way. It is simply a different taste, you do not have to like it, or watch it, if it does not please you, but in either case you will not ever receive a just answer to that question, it simply is the way they are and that is that. :)

You Americans (United States of Americans, that is :P ) and your constant fretting.  -_-

Big Macintosh is Applejack's big brother. Applejack is in high school, Big Mac is presumed to be in college, at minimum. He only came to her school to help her with a delivery of apples. They were apples, as I recall, or something similar.

Oh, yes, it has become sort of the norm in various forms of animation now-days, hasn't it? :)

Sorry, I thought you were genuinely questioning that, as I do try to bring the world closer together by showing new points of view to people. :P

I'm not American, to start with. :P Secondly, making general blanket statements about a certain group of people - I speak from recent experience here - has a tendency to backfire. Like this just did. :) I'm a teacher by profession, so I have personal reasons for finding it disturbing. And it's not just America - in most countries in the world, a teacher dating a student is entirely impermissible, and if sex is involved, the teacher could end up in prison doing time for statutory rape.

As for your statement that Human Big MacIntosh is already in college, there's this:

post-2257-0-16315700-1404373031_thumb.jpg

He's shown eating in the school cafeteria, the day after he dropped off the apple cider, which is what you were referring to earlier. Face it, unless they state otherwise in Rainbow Rocks, Big MacIntosh is a high school student.

Of course, it may be entirely innocent. It's probably just a nod to the ship tease the two had in the series, that they put in without properly thinking through the possible implications.

Yes, I thought you might not be American, at all, but still assumed you were, which is my mistake. :)

I do stand by my generalising, though. Of course the subjects of the possible abuse and mistreatment of minors are a serious issue, but I believe even more so that this is a movie/show/whatever for little kids, it is as innocent as can be and that is why I find any such fretting rather silly.  :)

Concern for such a situation in the real world - legit. Concern for two animated characters in a kids show - I am sure it is just a reference/nod to the original series. ;)

I generally do not rationalise works of fiction like movies, television shows, theatrical plays and etc. for quite some years now, I have come to accept them as what I believe them to be - a scenario or play, composed, directed and manifested by people for the (let us simplify matters) purpose of entertaining others. I can like it or not like it, but whether something is "legit", "justified", "forced" or "realistically correct" does not occupy my mind. Thus, for me, if Big Mac and Cherilee are shown together there it must be completely normal and everything must be fine. img-1626992-1-sun.png

Still, I have my flaws and believe to be petty... so... if Big Mac was "old" enough to have a romance with Cherilee in the original series, I believe the same situation to be proper in the "Girls of Equestria" branch. Maybe he was just having a snack in the cafeteria or maybe the helps/works in the school, or maybe the school doubles as an educational institution for adult, cool, strong personifications of stallions, originating from a show for little girls, watched predominantly by adolescent males. XD

Well, sure, but this is exactly the thing that pages like this exist for. And many works of fiction are designed to explore morals and suchlike, so just saying "it's fiction and therefore you shouldn't think about what it implies" is not really a statement I can support.

Still, it's not like it keeps me awake at night, or anything. There are many possible ways that this could be justified, I'm just not sure "Rainbow Rocks" will bother trying.
