Trixie's hand-hoof

Now, here's a question that I have that came from over thinking things... which I do all the time... anyway, I would like your opinion on it (if you want to, that is).

From the animated shorts of the new Equestria Girls movie that will come out in a couple of months, seeing the different human counterparts of the main characters holding the musical instruments, we can tell that they are right handed (as can be seen in this screenshots):
http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/File:Rarity_holding_the_keytar_EG2.png
http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/File:Applejack_playing_skillfully_EG2.png
http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/File:Rainbow_Dash_with_a_guitar_EG2.png

In scenes from the first movie when we see them writing, we can see that the counterpart of Cheerilee and Celestia are also right handed:
http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/File:Cheerilee_at_the_chalkboard_EG.png
http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/File:Principal_Celestia_explains_the_Fall_Formal_EG.png

And even when Twilight crossed the other side of the portal, and had to use her hands for the very first time to do something, her first "natural instinct" (to call it something), was to pick up a pen with her right hand (sure, she was terrible at writing with it, but that's because she had never had hands before)
http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/File:Twilight_writes_her_name_down_EG.png

However, when the human counterpart of Trixie holds a guitar, we see that she's left handed.
http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/File:Trixie_playing_guitar_EG2.png

Does that mean anything in regards to the Pony Trixie, which Human Trixie is a counterpart for? I mean, she's a unicorn and all that, but how does her human counterpart being Left Handed reflect on her? Does it mean that Trixie's magical abilities function different from other unicorns? If so, then how is it different? Is it simply a meaningless detail, and it doesn't reflect on Trixie's magic, but on which Hoof she favors? (In Magic Duel, when Trixie was gesticulating and uncovering her face from the hood, she was always using her left hoof) http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/File:Trixie_points_at_Twilight_S3E5.png
http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/File:Trixie_takes_off_her_hood_S3E05.png

So there... is Trixie simply left hoofed, and by extension her Human counterpart is left handed? Of does being left handed-hoof also reflect somehow in her magic?

It means that Trixie is the beast, and she is going to usher in the end of the world via her evil left handedness.

Either that, or she is just left handed in EqG to make sure they have atleast one lefty.

I think it's a strong possibility that you're right. When it comes to characters on television shows, there are actually parts of their character that typically not pointed out but are included in a write-up or description that the creator of the character writes for them.

There very well could have been a bit about how Trixie is left-hoofed in their write up, and it followed her to the world of Equestria Girls where she's also left-handed.

That's an interesting observation. I am aware of the creators of Friendship is Magic putting in some complicated and hidden details, so it's very possible that what you observed was intentional as, unless I'm mistaken, the some of the same people who work on Friendship is Magic work on Equestria Girls.

On the other side of the coin, it is possible that this was done randomly for no particular purpose.

Regardless, it is interesting to speculate about.

Its probably so that she is facing RD during the shred-off in a way that the audience can see them both from the same direction.

I thought so at first, but then I saw this trailer where at the 0:40 mark you can see Trixie playing the guitar on stage, and she's still doing it with her left hand, and the other characters in the trailer use their instruments like a right handed person would.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knouXn99IKo

Here's a still screenshot of the part in case it goes by too fast (or if the trailer cannot be watched for some reason) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qjF40R_EE0

Also, here's a compilation of images of Trixie using her left hand/hoof, so it can be seen more clearly http://persona22.deviantart.com/art/Trixe-the-Left-Hoofed-Unicorn-466023778

There was can see that Trixie not only uses her left hoof while other characters use their right hoof (She takes off the Alicorn Amulet with her left hoof http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/File:Trixie_admiring_Twilight%27s_amulet_S3E5.png, but Rainbow Dash steals it from her with her right hoof http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/File:Rainbow_Dash_yoink_S3E5.png). And also, when casting a spell or levitating something she favors her left side (like if her left-handiness / hoofiness) affects how she uses her unicorn magic.

Hmm, interesting. I like little quirks like handiness. Although in the original, I observed that AJ, Rainbow and Fluttershy were lefties.

One thing I recognise in a fair few cartoons is the heroes are right handed whereas the antagonists/villains are left handed. Although I kind of wish that silly evil lefty thing dies out... xP Have you observed any other character's hands yet?

Well, I've been seeing Spike, and he appears to be either ambidexterous, meaning that he can do things with either hand just as easily, or have Cross-Dominance, meaning that he favors one hand to do certain activities, like writing, but uses the other hand for other activities, like eating and drinking.

Sometimes he uses his right claw and sometimes he uses the left claw. But he seems to favor his right claw to write, and the left to eat, gesticulate and hold things. But there are few examples of him writing down with the left claw (like in Lesson Zero or Bats!) while in every other episode he uses the right claw to write things down. While he usually uses the left claw to eat, drink, hold things, etc, but there are a few episodes where he uses the right claw for that (In Owll's Well That Ends Well he uses the left claw to pick up everything for the first half of the episode, then uses the right claw for the other half to eat, the again the left claw to hold things.)

The episodes are full of examples of this "right hand is used to write down, left hand is used for cleaning, eating, drinking and holding" examples, just check the Spike image gallery here: http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Spike/Gallery

So Rainbow Rocks came out and now we can confirm that Human Trixie is indeed left handed. So pony Trixie must be left-hoofed.

I think this pretty much proves it.

Pretty cool that such a minor character detail shows through. Trixie with her Great and Powerful Left Handhoof.
