Pony Flash Sentry has Potential? Maybe?

Most of us (myself included) hated him in Equestria Girls and with very good reason. He was boring, had no real character development, and was basically a plot device. Most of us also hate seeing his pony self appear in the show because it reminds us of how terrible his human self is.

But Pony Flash and Human Flash are not the same person. They probably share personality traits (whatever those traits may be, we haven't seen them yet), but they have different histories. And there is something about Pony Flash which makes him slightly more interesting to me.

He is a non-crystal pony residing in the Crystal Empire, and as far as we have seen, the only non-crystal pony there other than the local royals. What's the story there? Where did Flash come from? Did he join the Canterlot Royal Guard and transfer? That's boring. Maybe he was a part of some adventure with Cadence before the return of the Crystal Empire. Perhaps the two of them had to save Canterlot from some dastardly evil and through that, Cadence grew to trust him completely so she took him on as her personal bodyguard or even Royal Advisor and that is why he is in the Crystal Empire now. What is if like for him being the only non-royal, non-crystal pony in town?

I'm not saying I necessarily want him to play a larger role in the show, but I would like answers. Anyone else have some interesting head canon on the subject?

He is a lost cause. He is a generic guard and a pegasi so he wont be using magic. He is a terrible choice for Twilight and his human persona only made him look worse. He work in crystal empire because he probably suck at being guard and Celestia transfered him to Cadance so he woudnt cause problems in Canterlot

Unless Equestria Girls is uncanon (which from the movie it seems like it has no reason to not be canon), he has to have potential, because he's eventually going to become at least romantically involved with Twilight in a similar way to how he did in the human world, because the ending "We really need to stop bumping into each other like that." is the exact line human Flash Sentry said when human Twilight bumped into him.

As for a backstory, it seems me like he's a normal pony in the Crystal Empire simply because Canterlot didn't need any more royal guards, or, hell, maybe he just lived in a place where it was easier to take the train there than to get to Canterlot.

However, while I say he has to have potential, I do hope that they don't actually bring him into the story until much later if ever. I don't feel like a romantic sub plot for Twilight Sparkle is at all necessary right now, and while I'm a big fan of Disney movies, I don't see a romantic subplot working too well in the environment of MLP.

I certainly hope not. And I think that after all the backlash to Flash (backFlash?) the writers wouldn't do it.

But let's not pigeonhole him more than he already has been. There are lots of ways for a character to develop outside of their romantic endeavours. And I stick to my original theory that a pony and their human counterpart are different enough from each other to have different destinies.

As a character? Certainly. Just about any character can be made interesting with some effort, though whether or not this show will increase it's investment in side character development is debatable. Main characters get all of the focus, while side characters generally only have basic development and screentime.

Though personally, I'm not a fan of the concept of shipping in canon material, so I don't feel that aspect could be salvaged.

I don't think so because in equestria girls the writers have gone to the Cliche high-school bs so toss this guy along with others and you have twilightxsentry pretty lame if you ask me

I honestly think Flash receives too much hate. I mean yeah he isn't the most interesting character by far, but I prefer him over the like of Snips & Snails easily.

Honestly, all characters have some sort of potential. It's just up to the writers if they want to do anything with him.

A throwaway character introduced for the sole purpose of Twilight having a temporary love interest in Equestria Girls for the sake of making the film even more like a clichéd teen drama flick? Of course he has potential, but he was introduced as a plot device, and I doubt the show's staff has much interest in using him as anything more than that, assuming he isn't just going to be a background pony from now on, beyond slightly bigger roles in the Equestria Girls series.

Flash Sentry got way too much hate from posers thinking they were doing the show a favor by ripping on EQG. He's always been a decent character, and one that I would like to see more of in the show. Another male friend of the mane 6 is welcome in my book, and yes I ship him with Twilight. >.>

Let's think about this people:

Rainbow Rocks: He has a human person in equestria girls, so he is bound to show up in RR. As far as the show goes, he made an apperance in "Three's a Crowd" But that was used as a "Walk-in,walk-out". And if he was linked with Twilight? I would die.

A romantic love interest...? I don't trust Hasbro to write that well. Don't get me wrong, they're good writers,but... the death of little girls shows featuring female protagonists usually begins with them always pandering to male love interests. Remember how Twilight was in EQG's around Flash Sentry? Imagine that... ALL THE TIME.

If Flash Sentry places his greasy mitts all over FIM, Satan will shudder at the terrifying display of righteous hellfire that will spew from my anger holes.

I'd rather have Twist be part of the Main 6 and have all future episodes just be her saying "She sells sea shells by the sea shore" for 22 minutes than to have Flash Sentry appear for a millisecond, and I very much dislike Twist.

I'm half-joking, of course, but really. No Flash Sentry, ever pls.

I don't want to see him in the show, but I've been catching up on the comics lately and I think that would be a great place to see his backstory. They've done all kinds of neat backstory and world building in the comics including how Cadence and Shining Armour got together and a story about Starswirl's and Celestia's past.

One thing I DO NOT want to see is Flash in any way involved in a romance with Twilight in the pony world. I hate the fact that it was even hinted at in EQG and I think if Flash was given a proper backstory and shown to be more than just that plot device it would sooth my qualms. Kind of like ret-con but for character development.

He already fulfilled his potential. He became anti-Derpy of this franchise. He act like an easter egg but whoever find him instead being happy like with Derpy, he usually go "FUUUUUUUU...". Im sure Larson will troll us with his appearance more than once.

I am largely apathetic towards Flash.  Which is how I feel about the majority of unimportant characters on the show lol.  I think the shallow, out-of-nowhere attempt at a romantic pairing with Twi was a misstep on the part of the writers.  Flash is not important.  Flash need never be important.  If you think Flash has potential, then Snips & Snails possess in their little, terribly misshapen bodies the potential to headline their own FIM movie.  Snips & Snails: Look at Us!  We Got a Movie!
