Is Rule 34 a Good Thing?

I love Rule 34 and I'm not ashamed one bit about it. I've known about it before I even became a brony (it was actually the main tool in my sexual discovery). I can understand somewhat about the hate it get, but is it really a bad thing?

I for one don't think so. I think it's a really good sign for a fandom. To me it means that people enjoy the characters so much that they would want to see them in sexual situations. And that artists actually like the characters enough to draw said situations. A high content of Rule 34 means a lot of people really enjoy the characters of a particular media.

Well, it's neither good or bad. It is what it is...nothing more, nothing less.

The only really thing that's bad would likely be how society and people can treat people who have a interest in something like R34. I mean, I have seen people who have and interest or fetish for it get treated well...like dirt; honestly.

I understand why people wouldn't like it, and it's not something for the younger viewers, and for a show like MLP that can tend to make things difficult. I mean, it is REALLY easy to find R34 pictures in Google search when I'm looking for something that's innocent, epic, or what ever.

People will like what they like, and just because they like it shouldn't mean that they're bad, awkward, or social rejects. However, there does need to be a line considering how easy it is to find this stuff. I doubt Hasbro wants bad press from a kid becoming emotionally scared because he found a really suggestive picture.

Again, I won't say it's bad. I mean, it isn't a bad thing in itself, but it shouldn't be as easy to access as it should be; I guess. I know Google has methods to block content, but it's a little flawed when it ends up blocking otherwise okay pictures.

*Shrugs.*

It's a touchy subject. I wouldn't say it's inherently a good or bad thing, but given certain circumstances it could very well become a problem. That's not to say I discourage those who enjoy it to refrain from doing so, but be wary not to tread past the line. As long as you can manage that I think you should be free to enjoy whatever you please.

I have definitely seen my share of it, that is for sure. I can understand why it is not everyones thing and yes it appearing in google safe search is a problem but one thing I have never understood is why a particular kind of R34 known as "clop" gets singled out. It is not the only R34 with primarily non human characters and not the only one with characters from a franchise geared toward young children.

I search any pony on Google Images (especially Rainbow Dash) and I get R34. I don't like it, but I'm not going to hate R34 just because other people enjoy it and I don't.

I don't like looking at it personally but I won't stop people from drawing it. People have a right to draw whatever they want. If they want to draw their favorite characters doing whatever, so be it. No one should stop them from drawing. Just try putting google safe search to avoid kids from seeing it.

Eh, not a fan of R34. I just never liked the idea of seeing characters I know sexually interact with each other. Still, it won't keep me from being a fan, that's for sure.

I agree, I never liked R34.

As someone who doesn't really like "normal" porn and rarely looks at it, I'd definitely say that Rule 34 and other kinds of "alternative" porn (yiff, for example) are a good thing.

I wasn't going to comment but somebody said yiff so I guess I am now invested in this conversation. My question is what counts as R34 and not just regular porn? I mean I always assumed that furry stuff wast R34 but just it's own category.

I find that it is a disgrace and insult to the characters it butchers and it does little other than plague the search engine whenever I try to look for the innocence the show stands for, and fortify stereotypes about the perversion of the fandom.  I don't like it.  You have the right to like it, but please, keep it to yourself, for everyone's sake.

What I don't like in a lot of live action porn is how if you watch enough of it it starts to become really obvious that they are faking it in a lot of those movies and it a huge turn off for me. It is a lot easier to find good R34 than it is to find good live action porn and you are a lot less likely to get your computer destroyed by viruses, spyware and malaware.

I always viewed furry as a type of R34 myself, a type some are into and some are not.

Really? I've always defined R34 as a fanbase thing. Like there has to be an official-ish thing other wise it is just its own category. Like it needs a game/show/comic/etc. for it to be R34.

There is a seperate "furry" fandom but it is not entirely centered around furry porn although to be honest with everyone here I used to believe it did because the only furries I interacted with were into that for sexual reasons. Don't get me wrong I didn't judge them or anything but that was a misconception I once had. "Yiffers" which is a term I didn't even hear until after I got into clop are a part of the furry fandom although there are some like me that occasionally get off to furry stuff but don't consider ourselves furries.

Well I'm kind of new to the whole furry thing so I don't know much personally. Though I do know one thing, it makes some nice R34.

Personally, I wouldn't consider yiff to be a form of r34 as it isn't really based off something, although I do admit that the line be sort of blurred in some cases. That being said, I do love me some furry and scaly porn but don't really consider myself a furry.

Ehh...I don't really like r34. I always end up stumbling onto it when I'm looking for a cute pony picture. It's like "google I'm trying to find a picture of Twilight being adorable, not flashing her crotch at me. Stahp."

It's rather annoying, but nothing can be done about it. Although I will say that some of the artists do a really good job, I may not like the content but I can appreciate the effort and skill used to make it.

Porn is porn.

Some of it is real. Some of it is drawn. All of it has a demand from someone, somewhere.

If you start taking offence to porn, like serious "get angry at the internet" type of offence, it's very silly.

Because I mean, c'mon. It's porn. It's everywhere.

You'd be better off getting mad at Oxygen molecules for contaminating your CO2.

Now.

Let's see how fast this thread gets shut down.

It'll be like a game, of sorts.

I feel like porn messes with my mind, so I tend to avoid it.

It makes me feel empty.

While I think artists wasting their talents on it is bad, I'm not going to banish it just because someone else may like what I don't
