Would the show ever handle physical bullying?

They deal with emotional bullying all the time, but would they ever handle PHYSICAL bullying? Not actually showing a character being hit, but perhaps just having an episode involving one of the Crusaders coming home with a black eye, and their family dealing with the repercussions.

I bet they will at some point. But note this: girls tend to play the emotion game when bullying, they hurt you from the inside, not the outside. (This is by statistics, by the way)

I don't think so... it's too violent for a Y rated show.  Plus the emotional bullying plots pretty much cover both... while you can watch an episode talking about physical bullying and ignore the message because you think it's only bad if they hit you, a show about emotional bullying will reach both groups of people.  I mean who is going to say, "well he hits me and there was that time he tried to push me down the stairs and strangle me, but it's not like he calls me a buttface..."  It's just not necessary to go into the physical side of things...

I have my serious doubts that they would have an element of physical bullying pop up.  Babs' bullying is about as close as you are going to get, a mix of manipulative bullying and some physical bullying elements.  The reason as well, coupled with what others have stated in this thread, the emotional bullying is a psychological bullying, which is actually a lot more common amongst young adolescent girls and teens.

With young adolescent boys to teens, it's common for them to hit each other and bully each other that way, eventually a third party has to get involved to break it up and punish them and try to remedy the situation, eventually they have to learn to not be aggressive and actually learn to be civil and apologize to each other.   With young adolescent girls, the more common form of bullying is psychological, the type of bullying that affects people mentally, a social form of bullying.  It's a form of bullying where they use social pressure, peer pressure and manipulation to emotionally, and mentally hurt others, getting other kids to gang up one and another to exert control.

Examples can be like:

  • anonymous prank phone calls or harassing emails from dummy accounts
  • playing jokes or tricks designed to embarrass and humiliate
  • deliberate exclusion of other kids for no real reason
  • whispering in front of other kids with the intent to make them feel left out
  • name calling, rumor spreading and other malicious verbal interactions
  • being friends one week and then turning against a peer the next week with no incident or reason for the alienation
  • encouraging other kids to ignore or pick on a specific child
  • inciting others to act out violently or aggressively

(Examples from here )

So, it's not really surprising to see Diamond Tiara act the way she does.

Also parts of this:

So I have my doubts that the show will cover physical bullying because, it's kind of more of a boy thing.  Girls bully in a more vicious way in my opinion, one that hurts psychologically.  The physical wounds will heal and can be stopped, psychological takes a lot longer to repair sometimes.

Hello, Angel Bunny slammed a book into Fluttershy's face in "Putting Your Hoof Down."  I think they could do an episode on physical bullying.  Maybe even domestic abuse!

That was not slapstick!  It was domestic violence!  Angel Bunny hit Fluttershy with a blunt object out all because she couldn't make him a salad he wanted.  And even worse, Angel Bunny is as almost as sentient as the ponies.

*Sapient. Angel Bunny is sentient. Chimps are sentient. Dolphins are sentient. Humans and (MLP) ponies are sapient. Although I do suggest we classify him as merely sentient, as we could get him put down instead of jail time.

With a lot of the things Angel does, it's rather compelling to think the rabbit is fairly sapient really.  I mean, when he's not being a jerk to Fluttershy, he knows when to comfort her when she's depressed or sad and is aware of the consequences of his actions at times so .....

Rabid Fluttershy fans always want to make wabbit stew for some peculiar reason

Everyone please keep this on topic. This isn't a discussion about Angel.

If they didn't have that DBZ style fight between Twilight and Tirek in the season 4 finale I didn't think they would ever get into the physical side of bullying but with that in mind I can't dismiss that as a possibility. Because it has the double standard of being a "little girls show" in addition to a "kids shows" it is going to have to be extra careful with it but could pull it off. Babs as others have pointed out has gotten slightly physical with her shoving the CMC and throwing things at them but what would be unique about a bully that relied even more heavily on physical means would be the whole dichotomy of exactly how and when it would be acceptable to fight back.

What is the line between self defense and being no better than the bully? It reminds me of an episode of Hey Arnold that dealt with a concept similar to this, Arnold was mugged by some thug and had his money and his bus pass both stolen. His Grandmother taught him martial arts so he could defend himself and he did do that at first but eventually went too far by actually seeking out trouble. As his Grandmother said "be like the frog in the pond" which Arnold later realized meant to not go looking for trouble but to be prepared when it found you after he once again met the same guy who mugged him. Arnold was able to solve the situation non violently when he teasingly waved his bus pass in front of him by snatching it from his hand. The mugger panicked and gave Arnold back his change, let him keep his bus pass and gave back Arnold's Grandmothers purse (she was with him at the time and she let him take it figuring "it is only a purse").
