PETV: People for the Ethical Treatment of Vegetables?!

"Vegetables are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment or abuse in any way."

*This post is the result of someone who got pretty annoyed by PETA b/c they've been spamming his facebook page with graphic animal abuse video to force him to become vegan.*

I hope you guys know PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Now I'm all in for stopping animal abuse, but after I looked at some of their extreme stuff I was like 0_o. Some Animal Right Activists sometimes go out to extreme measures, like look at this.

(Link to provocative image, not exactly graphic or 18+ but very suggestive)

They also went harming people by insulting them and hurting them mentally, which kind of defeats their whole point b/c aren't they trying to reduce the suffering of all beings? (this ad was proposed after a fisherman in Florida was bitten by a shark in 2011)

This is a reaction (ranting-ish) article

http://gizmodo.com/5844848/peta-doesnt-give-a-shit-about-humans

Alright I realize this article is pretty extreme but it does have a point, PETA really doesn't give too much damn about humans lol.

However, what really worries me is this

http://www.freeindia.org/biographies/greatscientists/jcbose/index.htm

http://www.pri.org/stories/2014-01-09/new-research-plant-intelligence-may-forever-change-how-you-think-about-plants

So apparently him and a some scientists have discovered that plants have feelings, so if this goes on in the future we might have this PETV or something. This means we are completely utterly screwed b/c we don't have stuff to eat!!

It would be nightmare to have people going like "every year, over 50 jillion vegetables ranging from cabbages to lettuces are brutally beaten, abused, and sliced into pieces while still alive for our greedy purposes of food, clothes, and entertainment." or "Vegetables may seem listless, emotionless, but they have feelings! They can feel the pain as the bloody blade slowly curves its way into their bodies, as some cruel chefs prepare a bowl of salad. They silently shriek in pain as you boil them alive in 100 degree Celsius! This is not fair, vegetables deserve the same right as us!!!"

Ultimately, I think PETA has gone too far, they overemphasized on Animal rights and stuff to the extreme (vegetable bikini lol), and have few regards for humans (aren't we animals too?!). I might just go nuts when one day someone forms PETV.

Oh and one more thing, Stop spamming my facebook page PETA!!!

I generally respect those who decide to go towards certain diets like vegetarianism or veganism, but if someone tells me to stop eating PLANTS - that's where i'll draw the line. What the heck are we supposed to feed of, vitamin boosters?

PETA is full of idiots. Seriously. You aren't winning anyone over by being a dickshit to everyone who doesn't have the same opinions as you. Animals are not capable of sentient thought, and therefore do not have the same value as humans. Not to mention you aren't going to stop the way animals are raised to feed humanity, because we already kind of have quite a few regular hunger crises going on in third world countries like most of Africa and South East Asia. Vegetables alone aren't going to remedy that.

Tigers kill bunnies. If i had the small, oxygen starved brain of a PETA member i'd be making them suckers extinct in no time because appearently eating is now a crime against nature. Ofc to make it fair on the Tigers i will he having alittle 'inquistion' in PETA itself, then ask the tigers to justify thier actions in court. :P

That might be where we're going lol, we just feed of pure nutrients, no actual food intake.

I'll stop eating plants if you can convince every other herbivore on the planet to do the same...

Convince other carnivores to stop eating meat :3

Wait, aren't they like "stop killing animals"? That would be contradiction lol.

PETA is wicked organization. Wouldn't surprise me if they treat their "rescued" veggies the same way they treat their "rescued" animals.

I'm a vegetarian. I truly doubt that there's any real case with the "vegetables have feelings" thing. It's true that plants do respond to their environment and that they are alive, but they're not sentient beings in the way that humans and animals are. I don't know if anyone could convince me otherwise.

But even if scientists prove that plants can feel in their own mysterious plant-y way, it wouldn't really change much for me. I became a vegetarian because of the true connection and relationships I form with animals. I can't eat animals without feeling immense guilt because of the bond I form with animals. I don't have some same bonds with plants. I can't have form a friendship with a head of lettuce or empathize with a dandelion.

As far as PETA goes, I'd be lying if I said PETA wasn't one of the main reasons I became a vegetarian. Going veggie was something I thought about for years and years, but I always thought it would be too hard. One day I just googled something along the lines of "why should I be a vegetarian" and I read one of PETA's articles. It really touched me and helped me to learn so much. After I read it, I couldn't not be a vegetarian. I took the pledge to try going veggie for 30 days, and then 30 days quickly become over 3 years. Now, I can never imagine eating meat again. I don't even think about it. Vegetarianism has become quite natural.

I have mixed feelings about PETA. Overall, I think PETA does a lot of great activism when it comes to outreach and education. I do have some issues with how they use blatantly sexist tactics in some of their ads and how they tend to turn people against their cause by being very aggressive. But do I have an issue with how vocal they are about their cause, or how graphic some of their articles are? Not at all. They're speaking out against a sad, sad problem, and by showing us the graphic side of animal abuse, they are simply showing us the truth. I don't see why PETA should sugar-coat something so awful.

For the record though, I do believe that people should only view PETA's graphic images and videos willingly - PETA shouldn't be spamming random people with violent imagery against their will. That can be really triggering for some viewers if they are not warned beforehand. That's definitely not okay.

Yeah, I used to think PETA was a pretty neat organization until I realized how radical they are. I mean, I do believe animals need to be treated ethically, but they've basically become Bible Beaters .

GO PETV!!

I agree with Blue; so what are we supposed to eat instead?

This is just taking it way too far -_-

As for PETA, I used to support them until I found out what they do with many of the animals they take in - they euthanize them (just look it up). It seems counter-productive to their cause IMO, to take the easy way out and not even give these animals a chance at a longer life. And then they spend all their time complaining about Mario wearing a tanooki suit -_-.

And what exactly are humans supposed to eat, then?

Salt and ice? Or are those things offensive because they cast shadows.

And darkness is evil! Save your brothers from dim light! Let the spotlights shine forth! :D

Although I hate Animal Abuse, I really think PETA doesn't have to be as annoying about it.

Especially how they react to some stuff like Mario and Pokemon. Mario having a Tanooki Suit, Pokemon about battling "animals", yeah.

What's next? Are they going to bash My Little Pony because Rarity butt-hits Twilight Sparkle in Sonic Rainboom?
