I am doing a poll because I am developing a network thing and such. There isn't much to talk about. The poll will consist of the following questions:

  1. How much do you use the mobile device, if yes to 1?
  2. Do you have an Android, iOS, or other device?
  3. What version of iOS do you have, if applicable?
  4. What version of Android do you have, if applicable?
  5. Do you have problems when trying to use websites because of the device you are using?
  6. Do you find that sometimes the experience of a website on the mobile device is less than on a regular labtop or desktop?

I might add more questions later, but these are the main ones.

NOTE: Versions for android can be found by going to your Settings -> About [device]

For iOS devices, it should be in Settings > General > About.

Thank you for taking the survey.

EDIT: I might remove the first question because it is quite pointless.

I have a Nokia Lumia Icon running Windows Phone 8.1, so yeah. I'm thinking about maybe switching to Android in 2016 though, depending on how Windows Phone evolves.

1. Yes, I do - Samsung Galaxy S4 :D

2. I rarely ever use it to call or text. I mostly use it to access the internet, but I do that quite often.

3. Android :D

4. N/A

5. 4.4.2

6. Yup. Mostly with the keyboard and, of course, autocorrect. It also seems to want to zoom in rather than follow the link when I tap something that's clickable.

7. Yes, because I feel like I'm getting my geek on more when I'm at my computer :proud:

In all seriousness, my phone is actually more powerful than my desktop, so while my desktop is slower than my phone, that's the only problem I ever seem to have with it.

That is actually one of the key point of what I'm developing, which is that the mobile device is more powerful than the the desktop in many ways.

gg no re.

It's no biggie, people forget it exists all the time due to its low market share in most countries.

1. Galaxy S4

2. Mostly Internet, some calls and text.

3. Android

4.

5. 4.4.2 KitKat

6. Yes. An example, the full version of MLPF has a tendency to bog down and crash FF on my phone. I stick to the mobile version usually, but it's short on a number of features.

7. Yes, but my desktop has 8x the RAM and orders of magnitude more powerful, so this is not unexpected. Also, screen size.

Did you jail break your device? There are ways to vastly improves its processing power.

Screen size merely results in browser adaption. The problem is HTML is just not able to adapt to the mobile layout system as many apps on android do.

I think it merely deals with the experience of the devices. People aren't familiar with the windows phones experience and, therefore, don't really relate to it. Other mobile devices use similar experiences with some differences in style. I personally like Android because of having the layout that iOS has while being more open with developers and modifications(jailbreaking and such).

I haven't rooted it, no. I haven't bothered to look since the last time a friend rooted and installed CM on his Note 3, his dialer app kept crashing. A smartphone that could do everything but make a phone call, but who does that these days. >_>

The only reason I rooted was to get rid of all the stock Samsung junk that sapped battery. It's not so bad this time around, though. Disabled most of them and the fat extended battery I bought really helps. It's super nice not having to play with brightness and CPU speeds just to keep my phone running until the end of the day.

Sure, it's got a 1920x1080 screen, but obviously I won't get 1920x1080 on a 5" screen without scaling otherwise everything would be unreadable. The scaling is what breaks on many websites that don't support mobile, and the ones that do usually give you a watered down mobile version that's missing features here and there.

I also have an iPad and the browsing experience is really top notch even though the thing has only a gig of RAM. I know people with billions of tabs have been clamoring for more, but I'm impressed with what Apple does with iOS to make it work the way it does. Patenting the heck out of everything probably helps -- I'm always missing gestures when using Android tablets. I read that Windows Phone is also very well optimized. I was considering switching to the Lumia 1520 but may wait on the iPhone 6 5.5"

I digress. ^_^

That's the point of a project I am working on. Companies and other indie web developers put a lot of work into features on their website, but then they never put any work into mobile online interaction. Many of the coolest features on the sites just don't make it to the mobile version.

EDIT: The project I am working on would allow developers to easily implement such features without hassles of trying to get around the HTML limitations.

Well, I'm all for that. Seeing as the number of users accessing the internet from mobile devices is about to eclipse those accessing from a computer, something like that would be a real boon.

1. I use it mostly in weekends

2. iOS, and my mobile device is iPad 4

3. IOS 7.1.2 hopefully getting 8 in release.

4. N/A (Android hater)

5. I have no problem using websites in my iPad

6. The PC/MAC version of a website is always the best XD.

Regarding my hate for android, is because there are apple haters. So I put the hate to them. I love apple mobile devices. Also I have interest on a windows phone too.

I use a Samsung Galaxy Note 2. The main reason? It was the only phone big enough, at the time I got it, to work well with my large thumbs. Nothing worse than trying to type on a small touch screen when your fingers are so big they press 5 buttons at once. A simple apple become an qSWAPOLPOL;KREER. And I can't have people think I am eating a qSWAPOLPOL;KREER when I am sending them a text message.

The poll is broken (Oops! Something went wrong! [#10355] You must cast your vote in each question of the poll), so I'll answer here:

  1. All the time
  2. Android
  3. N/A
  4. Android KitKat 4.4.4 running on a Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 flashed with CyanogenMod 11 M8 (build 11-20140708-SNAPSHOT-M8-jflte)
  5. Not because of a specific device, but there is an issue prevalent on browsers of all devices, be it Safari (Webkit/Nitro) or Chrome (Blink) with drop-down navigation bars similar to the following example:
    <li><a href="/manefive">Mane Five</a>
        <li><a href="/twilightsparkle">Twilight Sparkle</a></li>
        <li><a href="/rarity">Rarity</a></li>
        <li><a href="/applejack">Apple Jack</a></li>
        <li><a href="/rainbowdash">Rainbow Dash</a></li>
        <li><a href="/fluttershy">Fluttershy</a></li>
    </li>
Let's say I want to go to /twilightsparkle. I tap on the drop-down link, 'Mane Five'. The drop-down box pops up, but not long before I am sent to /manefive. The workaround is to hold on the drop-down link until it pops up, but this doesn't work on all sites.
Furthermore, some responsive sites love using fancy JQuery animations built to be efficient on desktop but just slow mobile browsers down.

I mean, it's really down to poor coding that ruins the experience.
  6. Yes, see above.

I don't know what the problem is. I removed a question because of its irrelevancy, but I don't think that would break the poll.

Yeah, I have that problem as well with some mobile devices, which is one of the reasons I started the project I am working on.

1. I use it all the time, i even use it to access my computer using splashtop! so i can get files from my pc even if i'm nowhere near my home.

2. Android. my daily driver right now is an HTC One 4G, but i also use an HTC One X for mostly developing stuff and a Samsung Galaxy S2 for fun and testing different ROMs

3. N/A, i really don't like apple products

4.HTC One 4G runs Android 4.4 with HTC sense 6.0

HTC One X now runs the same setup as my One 4G, tough with a slightly overclocked processor.

Samsung Galaxy s2 now runs a homebrew ROM of Windows Phone 8, tough it's kinda buggy.

5. Sometimes the layout can be a bit off, since i'm vieuwing from a smaller screen, tough usually everything works just fine.

6. yes. a good example would be the mobile site of this forum. it's not very user friendly and you're missing a whole lot of the site if you're not using the desktop version IMO.

1. I use my phone all the time even when im on my laptop. My phone is with me 24/7.

2. I have an iPhone 5S running on iOS 7

3. I have iOS 7 version 7.1.2

4. N/A

5. Yes, auto correct can be a pain at times and i always have to zoom in because of how small the web page is

6. The experience on a laptop or desktop is far more superior than on a mobile device because they are more powerful, it has a bigger screen, full size keyboard, and you can do so much more on them. The only good thing about mobile devices is the portability.

Goodluck!

Poll is being silly and not recording my answers at the moment.  Anyway I'll give them to you here anyway:

1:  Samsung Galaxy Note II (Sprint)

2:  I use it a lot.  I don't have a home phone so any talking on the phone is done with my cell.  I don't use the internet on the phone very often while I'm at home, but I use the internet on it pretty regularly when I'm outside my house.  I also will use my phone with my laptop as an internet tether if I'm somewhere without free internet like some airports.

3:  Android 4.4

4:  On my last phone I had issues with websites, but the Galaxy Note II does a really good job of displaying non-mobile sites.  Plus with the pen I can even use hover options.

5:  Oh definitely. Even at the Note II's size a lot of things aren't nearly as easy or fun to do on a phone.  Plus typing speed is greatly reduced and error rates are higher on typing so I rarely use my phone to write emails or messages on sites like this one unless it's time sensitive and I don't have access to a computer.

My phone has been dying lately, and my plans changed so I haven't used it for the forums for a while. I noticed early on that the mobile version of the site was inferior to the desktop version, so whenever I used my phone, Samsung Galaxy III, I would click the desktop version. Of course this chewed through my mobile data a lot faster. The main issue I had was that I could only find my content through notifications, or through scouring the topics until I found it. The My Content is not available on the mobile site.

I'll fill it out how I was using it a month ago.

  1. Yes, daily.
  2. Yes
  3. Not sure, it was outdated though.
  4. Not sure, it was outdated though.

Anyways.

1.) Pretty frequently. I use my phone more than my laptop since it's more convenient.

2.) iOs 7

3.) Yes I have problems: this poll.

The project I am working on won't require Flash to use similar features that Flash gives, and other features as well.
