IC Thread: http://mlpforums.com/topic/106919-wwii-battle-of-the-bulge/

Welcome, one and all, to the Battle of the Bulge RP! As you all know, more or less, it is 1944, and the US is about to clash with the Germans in the thick Belgian forests known as the Ardennes. This will be a non-pony RP, by the way. I did two previous WWII RPs featuring pones and they failed, so I ensure this one will not. For this RP, you will roll out with the following loadout

Name

Weapon

Secondary Weapon

Uniform

Personality

Backstory (Optional)

The rules for this RP are simple, and all of which you will be familiar with. They are listed below:

No Mary Sue-type characters or super-powered OCs. Everybody here must be given a fair and equal footing.

Strictly no godmodding. I made that mistake once.

I'm ok with cussing, vulgarity and relatively ugly stuff, but please try to keep content under the R rating.

Please ensure spelling and grammar is correct. It would make life easier for us if we can read what you're saying.

Finally, there will be moments where characters from opposing sides will engage each other in tense standoffs. The two persons involved may choose to either let their opponent live or kill him. However it goes, the standoffs must be detailed, right down to the first drop of sweat, or the last drop of blood.

Thanks for reading!

I'll join. If you're referring to my RP's I agree with you.

I'm a little disappointed with this being a strictly human rp, but I'll roll with it. Will we be limited to actual historical techonology? (DIfference being, that of Saving Private Ryan in comparison to say... Captain America.)

Name: Oberst Ludvig Marleclaunt

Age: 31

Side: The Third Reich

Affiliation: 3rd Panzertruppe, Research and Maintenance Dpt.

Primary Weapon: Panzer IV Ausf. F

Pistol: Mauser M712

Back up: Trench Knife

Grenades: Custom Napalm Grenade x4, Smoke Grenade x3

Uniform: M41 Tunic, M40 Trousers, Leather reinforced peaked Cap, Panzer wrap

Personality: Ludvig is a man of simple goals but astounding intellect. He is able to keep calm even in perilous circumstances. Often his tactical mind has dragged his men from the brink of disaster.

Backstory: Ludvig was born in 1911, the same year as Colt developed its famous pistol. His parents were German nationals, his father having served in the support divisions of the German army during World War One and living to return home while he was a young child inspired him to later enroll in the German Army. However little work was to be had in the army with the restrictions placed by the Treaty of Versaillse. It was not until the rise of the Third Reich that he would find his true calling, that being in the driving and development of tanks. As part of the armoured division pushing into the heart of Russia, he has helped his men and their tanks to survive the severe Russian weather. But as winter approaches his skills will surely be put to the test.

I'd like to apply with this character:

Name&Rank: 1st Lt. Will Fouquets (pronounced foo-k)

Army: USA

Unit: 75th Rangers, 1st Battalion

Role: Sniper

Primary Weapon: Springfield M1903A4

Sidearm: Colt M1911A1

Grenades: Mk II Frag grenade, M1 Frangible Chloroform

Uniform: 75th Army Ranger uniform, wears a red sash around his waist, a practice which is somewhat frowned upon by other snipers.

Personality: Focused and disciplined, Will is often predisposed to being a lone wolf, rarely traveling with more than one other person acting as his spotter. This is not due to a lack of amiability though. While at first quiet around those he doesn't know, Will can be rather boisterous when with his friends.

Backstory: Born in 1919 in the town of Liberty, Virginia, Will joined the United States Army at the age of 21 after graduating from college. While in training he received several commendations for his skill with a rifle, prompting him to apply for advanced training. In 1941 he graduated from Scout Sniper school and joined the 1st Battalion of the 75th Ranger Regiment. He has served in multiple conflicts, the latest of which was Operation Jubilee against the German-occupied port of Dieppe, in which he was wounded by an enemy artillery shell whilst supporting the Allied advance. He has recently returned to action from recovery leave.

I did say I was sorry. In fact, I'm planning on resurrecting an old RP where some ponies go to Disneighland. The original was closed, to my disappointment, so I'm thinking about resurrecting the RP, only this time a group of friends (me and my fellow entrants) had won a prize in the Canterlot Summer Sun Celebration's grand raffle! Once I start up the OOC for that RP, I will give you the opportunity to be a pony, count on it! And , the Germans fill up so fast because at the time, they were one of the best fighting forces in the world. Adding to the fact you don't have to be a member of the SS, that's what makes being a German in a WWII RP so appealing. You get to be a part of an army that was well ahead of its time and not have to kill any Jews or unarmed civilians in the process. In fact, you may even secretly express disgust at the actions of the SS if you so wish.

Here's my OC:

Name: Capt. Friedrich Stahlberg

Army: Wehrmacht

Division: 6th Panzer Army

Role: Tank commander

Tank: Pz. V Panther

Primary Weapon: MP40

Pistol: Mauser C96

Grenades: Stielhandgranate x2, Flares x2

Uniform: Grey Wehrmacht Captain's Waffenrock, grey peaked cap, black leather jackboots, and a collection of medals for his actions in Poland and Western Europe, most notably the Iron Cross which he received for killing a Russian anti-tank rifleman with his C96, after jumping up through his Panther's cupola, exposing himself to enemy fire.

Personality: Stahlberg is a very firm captain, worthy of his rank in all its forms. He commands great respect from both his men, the army in general and even some of his opponents. But this, however, is only because of his bravery and tactical genius on the field, which has gotten the numerous tanks he commanded out of all sorts of tight scrapes. However, Stahlberg is by no means a fanatic; he prefers to fight for his fatherland rather than his Fuhrer, and in light of the atrocities carried out by the SS against Jews and POWs, Stahlberg has even harbored feelings of disgust and outrage at the former paramilitary for committing such vile actions. Actions which Stahlberg believes stain the honor of the German Army, a sentiment shared by many that he knows and holds dear.

Backstory: Born in 1905, Stahlberg and his family were initially quite well off, owing their benefits to his father's services in World War I, for which he was paid. However, when Friedrich became a teenager, the Great Depression took its unholy toll on Germany and its people. Wracked with horror at the state of the nation, Stahlberg joined the army, enlisting in the 14th Panzer Division as a tank crewman in hopes of raising money for both Germany and his family, so that they may one day taste the joys of prosperity again. When war broke out, Stahlberg was placed as the loader of a Panzer 38(t) during the invasion of Poland. When his gunner was killed by anti-tank rifle fire, Stahlberg took over the gun, knocking out three Polish tankettes as well as killing 55 Polish soldiers using a combination of HE shells and machine-gun fire, enabling German troops to overwhelm Polish positions and surround the Polish fortress at Westerplatte, leading to the eventual surrender of the White Eagle. For his bravery, Stahlberg was promoted to the position of gunner in one of the new Panzer IV tanks that had been assigned to the division. It proved to be a wise choice, as Stahlberg quickly made a name for himself in the invasion of Western Europe. The French called him "La Main de la Mort" the hand of death, as proven by Stahlberg's ability to knock out French tanks, artillery and positions mostly with one hit. Stahlberg's efforts in France impressed Hitler greatly, and the High Command chose to have him promoted to the role of tank commander, in charge of a brand new Panzer V Panther. However, Germany's fortunes in the war changed drastically. Just as Stahlberg was transferred back to the Western Front, news had come from Stalingrad that Von Paulus and the German Sixth Army had surrendered, and the Russians had gone on an unstoppable offensive. Now, with the Allies closing in on Berlin, Stahlberg finds himself corralled into the planned German offensive in Belgium, known as Operation Nordwind, a massive counterattack which was intended to set the Western Allies on the backfoot and return control of the front to the Germans, so that they could focus on the East.

Name: Nazar Orlov

Age: 22

AffiliationSoviet Union 39th Guards

Primary: Mosin-Nagant Rifle with sniper scope

Secondary: PPSH-41 submachine gun

Uniform: Standard Soviet uniform with some camouflage webbing

Personality: Lone wolf that is iron willed in the cause to beat back the Germans out of his homeland. His faith in the party however, isn't as good since he views his mother's death as the Bolsheviks' fault.

Backstory: Born in the Ukraine in 1920, Nazar worked in the fields. His family watched as the country fell into civil war and primarily sided with the Whites, but as soon as the reds took over, silenced their opinions. As the years went on, the new Bolshevik government radically changed the country and caused a major famine in the Ukraine which killed Nazar's mother. Nazar and his father barely survived thanks to hunting the local wildlife. When Nazar turned 18, the government drafted him into the Red Army as a sniper. From there he took part in some fighting when the Germans launched their offensive in 1941. Now stationed in Stalingrad, Nazar readied to get his revenge on the Germans for capturing his homeland.

I suppose that's one thing that a lot of people tend to forget, that the German Army was not equivelant to the Nazi party (or the S.S.). Quite a few generals opposed Hitler secretly, but were too scared to publically defy him. Most German soldiers were fighting for their country and their families, not some crazed notion that they were inherently better than the people they fought.

And that wasn't just one guy, it was a group of officers who wanted to get rid of Hitler. Operation Valkyrie however failed as Hitler only got his pants blown off....

Yeah I know. One was forced to kill himself. The leader of the plan's last words were "Long live our scarced Germany." Didn't they have a movie made about them.

I knoe it would probably mess with any plans that you may have made, but could I join? I won't create a character yet, because I kind of wanted to join Emperial Japan, and I don't think there's anyone else on that side.

Well Comet, my lad, it seems no one wants to join Japan, bar yourself, which is why I might have to take Sidon's advice and make this a one-theater fight. The question here is which one is the more popular, the Western or Eastern Fronts?

I think Germany is most popular at the moment, but i strongly agree that we should combine USSR and USA into one group and the Nazi's and Japan into another. four groups would just make it too much work and probably make it less enjoyable.
