If a nation was founded to "revive" the style of the American 1950's ... ?

How can you? The affairs off other nations are none of our business unless they are a direct threat to us and all other diplomatic options have been exhausted. The more intervention happens the more it comes back to bite us in the ass, the same people that would later form Al Qaeda were armed in the 80's to drive the Soviets out of Afghanistan. Operation Ajax removed democratically elected Iranian leader Mossadeq in the 50's who was replaced by the Shah who the people hated and later replaced by a backward theocratic government. The CIA even came up with a term for these fiasco's and that is blowback.

Well, "backwards" is pretty subjective. I'd say courtesy and honesty have devolved since the 50s, so possibly this theoretical nation would be more advanced as far as some basic virtues go.

Because "backwards" is often used as a pejorative, I think you're going to have to be more specific. Do you mean less technologically advanced? Do you mean more militarized, more patriotic (although the 50s spelled the end of true American patriotism for most Americans)? A return to conscription?

I dont think it would be pissible. Not if you built your country to model off the decade of american history that things just started to move. The 50's although a great time for art, culture and thebindividual growth of america it was racist, sexist and rather violent. It was when the big movements for african american rights began to begin thebdownfall of segregation. If a country modeled itself after that tume it would fall if it reused to move foward. So i dont think it remotly possible for it to not become issolated or be backwards.

... how would you prevent it from becoming too isolated or backwards?

Do a You Tube search for Crash Course World History 202 and watch the episode about Civilization

(3rd Vlogbrothers reference of the day :/ ... )

I wouldn't try to prevent anything because I wouldn't move there.

Now if a country was created to revive the spirit of the founding documents and not the style of American life, that I could live in.

And I believe we could stop this new country from going down the same path because we've learned out lesson from how our current America turned out.

I don't think this is possible. Because people might be able to slip out of the gates and go into the modern world. Maybe if they built an island in the middle of the pacific ocean.

Why do you want people to live like Americans in the 50's?! They'll hate blacks all over again! No one wants that. Maybe just people living like people did in the 50's but not like Americans did back then. :)

What exactly are you trying to recreate? 'The 50's' is an amazingly broad statement that doesn't really mean a great deal. Are you talking Hollywood-style 1950's? An actual slice of 1950's culture from *somewhere*?

Ah some Bioshock styled thought experiment?

Well I think it would be difficult to maintain without curbing some civil liberties. Assuming one is trying to emphasize the era's good qualities such as wholesomeness and a good economy while disregarding with the negatives such as racial segregation.

One would either need a good degree of state social control, something I'd be thoroughly opposed to, or a large religious presence or something similar to portray a kind of "standard."

As a rule, it's very difficult to purposefully resurrect past cultural circumstances. Rather than political impetus, one might have more success by employing historical actors or fans. The same way some people at the renaissance fair or Civil War camps purposefully live like the time period they are portraying.
