Why do you like Luna?

Throughout my two years in the fandom, I've always wondered why so many bronies form such an affinity for Luna. I mean, if I had a nickel for every time I've seen someone declare Luna to be the best princess, or even pony, I'd have... Well, I'd have a lot of nickels.

 

I just don't see what's so engaging about her character. Maybe it's the fact that others have had to live in the shadow of their siblings, and they can easily relate with Luna? I don't know. Maybe you guys can help me fill in the blanks here.

 

Oh, and if Luna just so happens to be your favorite princess/pony, I heavily implore you to participate by replying to this topic.

I don't mind Luna, but what I dislike seeing is when people make her look awesome while Celestia gets turned into a tyrant.

 

I like to think that why some bronies like Luna is because she's relatable, she has a good design and she is the Princess of the Night. I can relate to her, but I don't really care for her design or think the night is cool. Or maybe another reason why people like her could also be because of Nightmare Moon.

 

Sometimes, I wish Celestia got a bit more love, but we don't get to see her much in the show, resulting in silly memes portaying her as an idiot. :c

It's primarily due to her 'shadowy' past. Please excuse the lazy description. Almost every single OC I see in the Brony community is a red&black cyber alicorn with bat wings and a dark past... "but just wants to be like everyone else." It's not hard to see why she is popular.

 

You can't marry a cartoon character.

 

Derpy is very^9001 overrated. She was fun, but this community really latches on to that fun, and drains it dry. I think all the characters work well as a dynamic, and anyone character singled out, would be overwhelming.

Luna acts more like a person who has lived 1000 years than Celestia does. Also she has far more interesting powers than what we have seen and seems to have a more interest in the welling being of Ponies as from what we've seen Celestia do is sit on her plot, hold summits and eat cake. We haven't seen her resolve a single ponies problem and the one time she did she got her ass handed to her. GG Sunbutt. XD

Luna is overrated, I agree. But people latch onto her. Just like they did with Queen Elsa. The fact that they're both introverts with a dark past... People can relate more to them then to Princess Celestia.

I love Luna but she's my least favorite princess mainly because she's the only one that has an evil form and darker looking. I can relate to a character more if it didn't have an evil form. Cadance is my favorite princess while Celestia is my 2nd favorite. Cadance reminds me of Zelda, Celestia reminds me of Palutena, but Luna reminds me more of Medusa, and Twilight reminds me of Pit.

All things considered, while I think Luna is too popular for her own good, the love surrounding her is still more tolerable than other certain characters(not by much though, but at least Luna does a couple of noteworthy things)

This one still confuses me...why are they all princesses? Where's the king/queen? 
 

When it comes to the princesses, it took me a long time to decide which one was my favorite. I finally realized during season 4 that I was stricken by Luna the most. Being able to relate to a character, (or the exact opposite--My love for Master Chief in the Halo series, who I am nothing like! haha) and character portrayal are major factors for why people love certain characters.

 

I'm gonna spoil this whole thing since I have a few pictures added in.

 

 

I really liked Cadance the more I saw her. She proved that she is a capable leader and a powerful alicorn.

 

Twilight was new to the whole princess scene and I still consider her more Mane 6 than princess (because she has not had many real princess-ish responsibilities as of yet

 

Princess Celestia. IDK, for how knowledgeable and powerful Celestia is and issupposed to be, she always seems to be quickly/easily overpowered by the villains, leaving it to Twilight and the others to use the Elements of Harmony or their new Rainbow Power to do the job. I know Celestia's trying to teach Twilight valuable lessons about confidence, friendship and all that, but really? She's the head hauncho, shouldn't she be the one stepping in to deal with the big problems? She's got a WHOLE ARMY of Royal Guards at her beck and call. Oh well. Don't get me wrong--I think she's a wonderful leader and all, and she's been shown to have a good sense of humor, plenty of humility, a lot of patience, the ability to teach, and even the guts to make the hard choices like banishing her own sister to the moon (I'll never forget those scenes and the music and the tears she shed as she did what she felt was necessary to save those entrusted in her care).

 

Luna had a great introduction that showed how powerful she could be. Then she kind of disappeared into the background for some time until 'Luna Eclipsed' and made brief cameos. It wasn't until she started dream-walking that I started to realize how much I liked her. That is when we started to see more of her personality and her own struggles. (I really loved her on Nightmare Night and I was definitely laughing as she tried to fit in!) I don't know. Luna has a compelling history, and I love the way the artists have designed her. I like both her original design and more so her redesign with the starry mane and tail. She's just gorgeous, and I love her as a whole.  -_-

Relates to a lot of people, knowing the pain of being the shadow and then snapping, only to be punished with banishment. The empathy is what gives her fans. 1000 years on the moon; Try doing that. I couldn't even stand 1 year doing that.

Hmm, that does apply to me, but it's hardly the only reason! She's sometimes comedicly serious, she's a woobie who you just want to protect, she has a rocking colour scheme, and her voice (ably provided by dear Tabitha) is just so much fun to listen to. Plus she can assume an alternate form (Nightmare Moon) at will, at least in appearance, if not in power and / or evilness. Can Tia say that? I thought not! Not to mention she's just as kind as Tia can be, she works hard at guarding the dreams of fillies.

What makes me confused is how so many people toss that word around without any regard to its actual meaning and instead just use it to say "HERP DERP, I DON'T LIKE THIS AS MUCH AS EVERYONE ELSE, SO IT'S OVERRATED" No that's not what that means, that's a gross misuse of the term and I'm appalled that someone would dare try to make their opinion fact like that! Just because you don't like something as something as much as a lot of people do DOES NOT make it overrated nor is it up to you as an individual to decide what's overrated or not!

 

Unless audience score is under critic score your statement that a work is "overrated" is invalid.
