Guardians of the Galaxy: Friendship is Magic (or so I think it should be called)

I saw it in IMAX 3D and enjoyed it very much. If you've seen it, what did you think?

Edit: There are spoilers in this thread!

I also saw it in IMAX 3D. I freaking loved it. It's got everything I want out of a superhero movie, and then some. The cast was great, the humor was nearly spot on and frequently made me laugh, the special effects were awesome, and the characters and character interactions are all written so well you actually care for them, even a walking tree that only spouts "I am Groot". My only problem was Ronan. He was just a bad guy, that's it. Although the movie is more about the Guardians as a team than the relationship between hero and villain.

I'm currently debating whether it's better or on par with The Winter Soldier/Avengers.

+ Cast

+ Humor

+ Teamwork!

+ Character Interactions

+ Rocket steals the show

+ Soundtrack

+ Special Effects

+ Emotional tug that makes you care for the characters

- Ronan is generic, but not bad

9.7/10

^ I know that's a stretch, but that's honestly how much I enjoyed it.

So epic! I loved it so much! The humor was my favorite thing about the movie. The only thing I didn't really like about it was that the bad guy was pretty generic and boring IMHO.

Great action and comedy moments with an unlikely crew of misfits brought together by a rather complicated and messy series of events makes for a movie well worth seeing.

Whilst I wasn't a fan of the Avengers or the Iron Man movies, I will say this is one of the strongest films Marvel have released for a while. It was a very pleasant surprise :)

It appears I have one of the very few dissenting opinions on this movie, but I may as well express it so this thread can run the whole gamut of reactions. I thought Guardians was mediocre and would instead recommend staying home and re-watching Star Wars, or perhaps checking out the short-lived television show Firefly

But I'm well aware that my tastes are strange and few will agree with me, and I can concede that it's about on par with Marvel's usual output. If you liked the previous MCU movies, then I see no reason why you shouldn't like this one. And who knows? If this one succeeds at the box office, it might encourage studios to develop more risky, "weird" projects based on obscure properties. So....check it out?

I was a bit skeptical with seeing Rocket Raccoon and Groot animated at first (They announced this movie coming a while ago) and thought it would be cheesy but boy did they handle the talking raccoon and plant right! It's a real treat and surprisingly for me, everyone seems to latch on to those two specifically~ It had lots of humor as well.

I honestly can agree with you on all of that.

  • The special effects were especially stunning.
  • Each of the protagonists was well defined with his/her own strengths, weaknesses, and quirks.
  • There was never a slow, dull moment. Fast-paced action all the way through!
  • The humor that intentionally destroyed the suspense in certain parts of the film kept me thoroughly entertained.
  • I really enjoyed the soundtrack as well, including both the random songs and the orchestral score.

The teamwork aspect immediately made me want to gather all my friends and go adventuring.

I saw it over the weekend with a bunch of friends and loved the heck out of it; I'm going to be seeing it again with another group of friends it was so good!

An article I read said it was Marvel's "Emperor's New Groove", showing that they can break our of their existing, successful template and give a really clever, snappy character-driven movie among all their big blockbuster releases and have it do very well.

Definitely see it! Despite its comparisons to Star Wars, the film has a very distinctive feel to it that pleasantly surprised me, even after watching countless superhero movies over the past few years.

The special effects are great (take a look at the wall of visual effects artists in the credits), the story is fast-paced, the music is excellent, and you will undoubtedly be entertained the entire way through.

I had no previous knowledge of the story or characters. Although this had me lost at some points (there are a lot of characters), all the important characters were well developed throughout the film.

Can I just quote a post I made on another thread? Is that considered not allowed? I would just be repeating myself I I decided to post something differently worded. Plus I can't resist a Marvel movie thread.

I know pretty much nothing about GOTG, but I know this...

Rocket Raccoon is adorable!

Don't say that in front of him, he has quite the nasty temper and itchy trigger finger. I love all the characters but Rocket Raccoon is my favorite. I love that feisty attitude and he has the best toys.
