How does Equestria deal with time travelers?

It occurred to me, that time spells are, obviously a thing in Equestria. How would you assume Equestria deals with rogue time travellers? What happens, in your opinion when a time traveler attempts to rewrite history in order to gain power in their present?

Well, I subscribe to the theory that in Equestria it's impossible to change history. If you go backwards in time, you'll just be acting a predetermined role that's already happened.

In that one M.A. Larson episode Twilight Sparkle went back in time and met herself in the past. If you recall correctly, Twilight hadn't changed the past in the start or the end of the episode. Events just happened accordingly. So presumably, any other time travelers going into the past are not going to change anything that hasn't already been determined.

Hope that makes sense.

There are, so far, only two time related spells. One ages and de-ages the target, and the other goes back in time a small interval.

However, it looks like Equestria is the kind of fiction where time is a immutable. The episode where Twilight goes back in time ends up with her causing her future to happen anyway.

In short, there'd be no need to regulate time travel, because it doesn't change anything except the way certain events happen leading up to the fixed point. Even worse, you could end up in a self recurring time loop should your future influence your past, so it would be a very dangerous idea. In short, time travel is a useless, potentially dangerous idea. Why would they regulate it?

The time-travel spell that Starswirl created was outright stated to be a one-time deal, presumably took a lot of magic and could only keep them there for a few moments before being called back, making it utterly impractical and/or useless. Not only that, but it was hidden in a secure part of the castle that likely only few could access, so it's not like it was public knowledge or anything. You'd probably need something more powerful like, say, a mad pony with a blue box?

As others have said, the time travel spells in Equestria have so far essentially countered any major paradoxes they created. Few ponies, however, have used these time travel spells. Star Swirl the Bearded was shown to have extreme fascination with time travel and thus was probably the most active in that field, while other ponies focused on other things. I suspect that time travel spells are extremely advanced magic: Star Swirl himself failed to perfect even one, and Twilight had difficulty casting a spell that would only give her a few seconds in the past. Only very skilled Unicorns would be able to pull off such a feat, and generally skilled Unicorns are well-trained and fairly wise in their use of magic. Hopefully.
