I don't know if this has been asked yet, but, eh. I don't understand that some of the bronys say that Dr. Hooves and Derpy are married or in a romance. Derpy's official name hasn't even been answered (at least I think so). They could be brother and sister or something. According to google, Derpy "Hooves" is a fan name. So, not like I have any problems with some Bronys say Derpy and Dr are in romance, but still, I don't get where the idea came for that, or just don't get it at all.

It's probably because Lyra and Bonbon as well as Octavia and Vinyl Scratch are commonly paired, so fans thought that pairing Dr. Hooves and Derpy would make a good pairing to go along with the other fandom Mane 6 pairings.

Since the show started, fans have had a knack for reading a whole lot of things, especially shipping, into the slightest little details seen in the background. For example, it is because Lyra and Bon Bon were frequently seen together in the background that fans assumed they were either best friends or a couple. Even though the animators said specifically that the background ponies they chose to place there were a coincidence, it happened so often that fans made it so in their minds.

 

So, if you are wondering where the notion of Dr. Whooves and Derpy being a couple came from, look no further than the show itself, especially when you carefully study shots like this one from Hearts and Hooves Day (which just made the shipping happen harder).

It's just fan beings fans. Don't try to rationalize ships or you'll hurt your head. People will ship characters that haven't even MET, talked to each other or been in the same scene. I'm not crazy about that happening, in fact i hate it, but Derpy/Doc is a fanon ship the fandom made me love. Man, I haven't even watched Dr. Who, I don't know shit about it, I just think they look cute together and hell, I ship it. Not Discord Whooves though, I really hate him.

Im afraid FiM animators ship Dr Whooves with Roseluck. They appeared walking together in Breezies episode as well they sit next to eachother at Equestria Games. It would probably meaningless if not the fact that Roseluck probably symbolise Rose from Dr Who franchise

I think this was actually canonically changed because the fans love him so much. I've seen licenced Hasbro merch of him labeled Dr. Whooves.

I think the extent of the situation is that some people like to make up stories for some of the background characters.
