Always have a plan

This idea is somewhat inspired from Twilight Sparkle.

But this morning I realized, whenever I plan something for any kind of situation, I will remember it in that situation. I think this can be taken advantage of.

A large part of our mind, including dreaming and daydreaming is used science would suggest to plan what to do with our current and future and potential problems. But that is very unorganized in a way. What if you have contradictory unorganized ideas? You would panic in certain situations. And, with us being awake we can think of more difficult situations to test our minds more, and help us gain confidence on scenarios which are far less troubling, and if the easier scenarios in real life have parallels or are similar, they will be solved with great ease.

Therefore this thread is going to be about thinking up scenarios that are challenging, silly, or common, and making good plans for them including back-up plans and possibly plan variations.

Thinking up a scenario doesn't need much effort. Brain storm anything off the top of your head, and I will try to make a plan for it. Others are welcome to make and critique and discuss plans as well for each scenario. Its great to have many minds working on the same thing, everyone thinks differently so we would learn potentially alot.

If you do not wish to participate please do not criticise this idea. It will derail the thread.

I will start with a few example scenarios, and you can input your thoughts. Also just because we make plans doesn't mean we need to keep them. Do not feel forced to follow a plan. Also follow ToS there should be no um extreme situations. And there should be no discussion of killing in difficult scenarios.

A common scenario:
I need a job.

Plan:
Check out local areas to see who is hiring. The internet can be full of excessive information, and jobs might be far away. If you are trying to get a job in a certain field you can still apply to a lamer job, and wait for one to open up closer to your area instead of feeling like you are forced to move because you do not want to settle on a lower job. This will help you ease up and be less self-concious long-term which leads to reduced stress. Moving also has a large stress factor and can make things difficult and tiring, and sleep loss of just one night can impact multiple days afterwards, long term sleep loss impacts more decisions and you might end up with a worse health and decision making, than otherwise. A problem with this plan is the need to check and recheck job listings repeatedly over time, and the stress of quitting your job if you had not discussed your plan with your boss, so that they would still hire you.

Silly and difficult scenario:
An gang of Juggalos are tieing people up and tickling them for ransom. Theres about 40 Juggalos and the cops are busy eating doughnuts and do not notice you over their football game they are watching on aloud TV in Dunkin Doughnuts and its a small town so every cop is there. Actually they are celebrating their chief's birthday. Idk, point is you do not get their help. There are 8 captives being tickled you need to free. They are defending themselves with flimsy foam bats. You have 6 hours before the captives lose their minds, and the police party is 8 hours. If you get captured you will get tickled, and fail to save the sanity of the captives.

Plan: Supplies are needed, such as a sharp tool steel knife that will cut rope easily and multiple times without dulling.
Possibly home made smoke grenades, ones that do not cause irritation to the captives. Would take some research and practice. And it wouldn't be guaranteed to work, theres 40 they would be spread out. Probably 2 to a prisoner, and some guards and then a headquarters room. Wait no, they are uneducated research would show, they would not be that organized potentially. But still we have to imagine the scenario significantly worse to come out of it sane. If the captives are indoors, indoor chemicals are 1,000 times more likely to be inhaled or stay in the vicinity, so on second thought it could work at least as a distraction from the main guard force. Perhaps part of this plan should be to research chemicals before hand, but I do not wish to delay this by googling. A knife is dangerous though if they take it away from you, so scissors are prolly best, they are clowny so they might have large silly scissors for cutting the rope in the vicinity but we cannot assume that. Perhaps lighting off fireworks in the front, but that stuff all requires a store, what if the stores do not have the goods? Then we will have to stick with common household objects. I am not Mac Gyver, but with practice and research I could emulate him perhaps. Best plan would be to outnumber the clowns getting the support of everyone in the vicinity, and they all grab pillows, and storm the base and throw bottles of mixed diet coke and mentos or firecrackers as distractions. Which we would need a good way of convincing people to do, and an organized way, because we could get a few people to convince many, or we could get one person at a time by ourselves, we need to be efficient of course.

Hehe, thoughts?

I think this is a fabulous game! What a fun thing to use in a classroom, or if you have children, coming up with funny situations and helping them build plans to get out of them. Being able to plan effectively and creatively is an essential life skill, and a fun little game like this is a great way to get some practice.

I may have to use this in a class sometime. Don't know what relevance it would have as a music teacher, but I'm sure I can find some excuse.

I Need A Job

To add to your plan, the local newspaper usually has plenty of job listings organised by type, and this is where I'd start. The value of the internet is highly dependent on what your field is. I'm a pre-service teacher; when I look for work upon graduation, the recruitment process for more than half the jobs available is an online one, and so the internet will play a vital role.

Personally, I'd rather move than take a job I don't 100% want, as teaching, well... you get attached to your school. Leaving a group of students you've spent a year developing a rapport with is extremely difficult, particularly when you've made some real progress with their learning in your subject, and I'd rather find a placement somewhere I intend to stay for a while.

I'm a happy itinerant anyway, I don't mind a change in location if it means finding the right job.

MY SCENARIO

You're driving through arid country, and your car breaks down. You're about a half-day walk from the nearest service station, but it's already 3pm. You have a single water bottle but no food, and the road is a simple country road with little traffic. What would you do?

Accidentally refreshed page and lost my plan.

Plan:

Wait til sundown, drinking water conservatively, arid locations are cold at night, get the repair station for food n water and get them to tow it or drive me to it to jump it. Assuming I have no phone. Planning fallacy is going to be great to consider for most plans too I think.

Scenario:

You are planning on bicycling, where should you go and how should you get there, and how long should you bicycle for? You had a light breakfast and some water and it is 8 am.

Plan: first of all check the weather report. Cycle only in the most pleasant time period. Make sure to know ones own ability. And purpose. If the purpose is a nice refreshing trip, maybe follow a river (I did that in melbourne once), and make sure there arent too many uphills and downhills on the way. For a starter, I wouldnt go for more than two and a half hours. I will dress up according to the weather report. Items to take along with me would be a bottle of water, money, and my phone with enough credit and gps enabled. I will tell a friend or two where I am going. I'll plan my trip on google maps. Bicycle here I come.

scenario:

Uhhhhhhhh... u have accidently angered a big school bully. He isnt reasonable. He threatened to beat you up after school, but gets held back after school in dtention for an hour. To make things interesting, the teachers in your school are tolerant to bullying. In one hour, this bully will round up his friends and come to your house for a friendly get together. U are to come up with a non violent solution to this scenario. U have friends who are loyal, but not the fighting type. Your parents are gone out. U have a cell phone, your pocket money ( about 500 dollars), and the keys to your house. (I dont even know if this scenario qualifies :( ) oh, and the police doesnt give a damn about you

Plans:

Order a pizza, and don't go outside, or go outside (why can't we be friends, why can't we be friends? lol). Take a fall but record it (not preferable I don't want to be in pain or a cripple lol). Give them some of your money to bribe them, not all of it, because they will try to get more out of you in the future probably. If you look very pathetic they might not even want to beat you, and you can still record it then. Actually recording them damaging the property and uploading it to youtube would get stuff done if the cops don't and you can embarress the police force.

Scenario:

Two dudes are robbing a convenience store inconveniently, your convenience store. It will take 20 minutes before the police arrive if you press the button. They, for some reason, have assault rifles, and walk side-by-side with their weapons drawn aiming at you. They have to pass by a stand where they do not see you to reach you which is your time to press the button and grab one item without them seeing you get it. The items under the counter are: a lukewarm water balloon, a gold wristwatch, boneless, smarty pants, rope, the last tictacs in the store, and a bottle of 190 proof dandylion everfree vodka. What do you choose for your plan(s) and why?

Wow nice scenario. I press the button and take the wristwatch. And as they walk into view, I drop the watch on the counter and put my hands up. I make sure I drop it in a way that they notice for sure. Its gold, so im guessing they'll forget everything else. "My god how did you know I had them? Did HE send you? I.. I'll give you all of them! Just please dont hurt me!" I'll put on a dumb expression. Now I'm guessing they'll be interested and confused at the same time. I'll try and give them the hint that I have a lot more valuable objects. And I'm guessing they'll want me to hand them over. 2 mins pass. "Okay, the keys are here somewhere". I'll act like im looking for some keys, and put out all my items, including the vodka. I'm hoping they take it, but thats a slim chance. I'll keep stalling as much as possible. Fumbling with the items, until I find my car keys (which I take out of my pocket ^_^ ) .I'll act as if someone sent them here. I'LL PUT THE CLOSED SIGN ON MY SHOP TO MAKE THEM FEEL COMFORTABLE :) I'll offer them the tic tacs and vodka too. But I dont think they'll take it. 8 mins pass. Then I'll break out crying. I'll act scared of their guns ( point that thing somewhere else I cant think!). The rope is on the counter, with the smallest opportunity, I can always strangle and knock out one of them. Ill pretend to move a few items on the shelves, look all secretive and shifty. I can always pull the gun from one of them seeing they must be easy enough by now. I'll go to the biggest box containing something numerous. Like biscuit packets, or anything. U know, those big yellow boxes. Stalling as usual, ill open them one by one. Upon a sharp blow to the head and a polite inquiry as to what im doing, ill answer that the other stolen items are somewhere in random packets. 12 to 15 mins in? They have the option to help me, (and lay down their weapons), or stand and waste their precious time. Or one of them could stand with the weapon while the other helps. I'll work fast now, and make them feel like I'm cooperating. I could take my chances and grab the weapon. Nah, I think enough time will have passed by then for the police to arive. (If this was actually real I wouldnt be able to think this outand get done in very early :P )

Scenario: I will think up a good one and then post it. One that will actually make u think, instead of a silly one I make on the spot.
