Where are the writers taking the characters?

How do you think the characters will grow in Season 5?

 

For Twilight, I think she'll start to take a much more authorative role in the future, and give her more accessories because toy ploys.

 

After the complaints people had with Pinkie Pie during Season 4, I think the writers are probably going to scale back her zaniness, and have her be more mature and serious when she needs to, while still being the eccentric and optimistic Party Pony we all know and love.

 

I would like Rainbow Dash to be less loud and "EXTREME" this season and have her be brave and brash, but calm and cool at the same time (kinda like Zoro from One Piece), and have her either join or abandon the Wonderbolts.

 

I expect the writers to develop Fluttershy and Discord's relationship more, but what I really want to see from Fluttershy is more development on her implied alter ego and the repressed feelings of anger, criticism, strength, and possibly rebelliousness she seems to hide from everypony. It could give her the most depth and backstory of the entire mane 6.

 

Spike seems to be getting more decent episodes recently, so I would like to see more of those.

 

Rarity I think will largely remain the same with a few minor changes. And Applejack I think will play more of a Voice-of-Reason Role this season.

 

I expect the CMC to further grow and mature, as well as possibly getting their Cutie Marks, as that's probably where I think the writers are heading. So what do you think?

Twilight is definite going to have more to do in terms of being a Princess I would think, that was already happening with S4 and would imagine more so now. Maybe a bit more on the romantic front too?

I don't think so. I love Pinkie and all her cute craziness. If anything, the writers will continue to rely on it for plenty of fun. The problem happens when it's clear there's absolutely no reason (even comedically) for her to do whatever crazy thing it is and they're just putting it in for the sake of it and they don't know what else to do with her.

If Dash could also gain Zoro's total lack of sense of direction this would be pure win

I feel this is all they really have AJ do at times already, please give her something a bit more to develop her!

If the CMC get their cutie marks, it won't be until the season 5 finale, because I don't think they would want to confuse/spoil people who missed the episode mid-season and suddenly see them with cutie marks in the episodes after it.  That does make the season 5 premiere a possibility as well, but I don't think they're in it, considering the storyline of the animatic that was shown at comic con this year.

 

But I DO agree that it's about time they get their cutie marks.

The character development will keep on going on in full force until they lose their distinguishing characteristics, and they all act like Celestia-clones with the tiniest hint of the mares they used to be inside them.

Big things like the Crusaders getting their cutie marks and Rainbow Dash joining the Wonderbolts are not likely to happen until the end of the series, which is likely to be at the end of the decade according to Hasbro.

 

If that announcement had been made before Season 3 ended, I probably would have been against Twilicorn as well for being so early in the show's run, but whatever happens happens.

 

Twilight will have to get more accustomed to the heavy responsibility of having a leadership role. We hoped this would have happened more often in Season 4, but there was a twofold problem. One was that the fandom feared that the show would become all about Twilight now that she was on a different social standing than the rest of the Mane 6, and the other was that the show overcompensated by marginalizing her role into meaninglessness for many of the episodes. They could have been Season 1-3 episodes if not for having a Twilight with wings walking around.

 

Rainbow Dash unfortunately didn't get as much in Season 4 as she did in Season 3. She showed great maturity in scaling back her pride and perfectionism in episodes like "Hurricane Fluttershy" and "Wonderbolts Academy", but unfortunately her intense bragging came out as a frequent source of forced humor in Season 4. Some episodes need to deal with her tendency to act before she thinks as a source of a good moral.

 

The Crusaders definitely have tons of development potential short of getting their cutie marks, as do their supporting cast, but there's one other kid character that I have to call attention to.

 

The one character I'm seriously focused on for this season is Spike. Unfortunately, Season 4 was horrible for him. Right after "Power Ponies" he goes straight from becoming appreciated right back into being a frequent plot device, butt of jokes, and source of forced humor. He seems to be one of the most inconsistently written characters in the entire show, jumping back and forth from being snarky, supportive, and handy to being incompetent, dumb, greedy, and unlucky whenever the plot calls for it. There seems to be no straight line of development for him. He's seemingly treated more often like an accessory to the show than an actual character and never actually matures. I'd like to see this corrected.

 

 

Unfortunately, from what was seen in the Season 5 animatic, it looks like Spike once again is relegated to a solely comic relief role, so expect this to continue for some time. -_-

Of course, she can still be silly and wacky for comic relief, but I'd like to see a more serious and deeper side to her character as well. If she becomes to crazy and nonsensical, then she becomes just a one-dimensional gag character.
