How is my theory of why her eyes are misaligned she is doing it on purpose. She is able to use the stare but unlike fluttershy she is not able to control it and if her eyes ever straight on it would be a disaster.

I personally think it is because she has a disorder or something. Or maybe she was born like that.

Originally her eyes were just an animation error

But a large portion of the fandom has attributed it to a common eye disorder, and used her as a mascot for overcomming disabilities.

Derpy Hooves is half-chameleon. Her eyes operate independently from each other, giving her twice the field of sight at the cost of depth perception.

No, no disorder. It is literally just where there was an animation error, but then everyone got hyped about it and she basically became the brony mascot or something. Then that one episode with her speaking was pretty much a fan service episode.

For those who mention about the animation error maybe that is the technological answer to why. But this thread is about theories within the story itself.

I say.. My theory is that her derpyness is inherit. Disabilities can be inherit too from your past ancestors So i guess one of derpy's family has actual derped eyes
