I think that you are right man. I know Daniel Ingram has been inspired by Elfman and others, but a NiN inspired sound is something I can really get behind. He's 39 (about the right age to have been influenced by them), and I've detected 80's and early 90's influences in his songs before (Becoming Popular and I've Got To Find a Way come to mind).

 

I say this is plausible.
