Possible reasons why alternate world of Equestria has equine terms?

OK, we know that behind the scenes the alternate world of Equestria has equine terms (like Canterlot High or the Wondercolts) because i'ts an alternate universe to the actual Equestria where ponies live, but what would you think would be a canon reason why the human Equestria uses equine terms in a place where it's population has no idea there's a paralel universe habited by ponies?

Maybe because in ancient times it was a land famous for it's wild horse population? Or because it was the first land where colonizers brought the horses? Or simply because it looks like horse-shaped in the map?

I don't get what the OP is trying to say...

... and judging from the comment count... I don't think anyone else does either.

The OP is (I think) trying to say that in our world, Canterlot would be an odd name.  So would their sports team Wonder Colts (or is that one word)

I think Princess C spent some of her younger years there and had enough of an influence that some of the things she talked about became names of things/places.

Perhaps she hadn't been human at the time and some of the mythos was passed down.

Oh, I see... thanks for clarifying, dude.

It's an interesting theory, but eh.

Canterlot is not an equine term.

Equestria isn't either.

And I don't remember the Wondercolts being in EqG.

CANTERlot and EQUESTRia

Isn't that equine enough to you? Or do you think it's related to cats?

If you didn't listen to the Cafeteria Song where they said "Canterlot Wondercolts" you didn't watch the movie.

Nothing about EQG makes any sense to me, so I don't see there being a reasonable canon, contextual explanation.  I assume the writers were just establishing forced parallels, which EQG is seemingly rife with anyhow lol.  "Oh look - the school is named Canterlot High.  Like Canterlot in Equestria.  Ehh?  Ehhhhhh?  Now ppl must buy all the dolls!"  I'd be surprised if the writers have even given it any further thought.  Or perhaps Rainbow Rocks will thoroughly explain the history behind this alternate world / shed some light on the prevalent use of equine terms, and I'll look like a Cranky Doodle.

The school mascot for Canterlot High is a colt. They use pony terms in the sake of school spirit.

That doesn't really account for the school name though, which as OP pointed out is a horse pun, and perhaps is the reason for the horse mascot and all of its surrounding horse terminology.

I would assume that Canterlot high is named after the town/city it's in, and towns/cities in our own world have plenty of odd names with odd origin stories.

Maybe the original settlers traveled a long ways on horseback to get there, and thus they "cantered lots"

Well, perhaps the mirror is powered by magic that needs some kind of common ground in order to connect the two worlds. So the connection was made to the one universe that had a school where the name matched up. In other words, the gateway could only exist because the school coincidentally was named after a location in Equestria. Once the name is horsey, if you will, the rest of the terms could have been chosen to reflect it, so we only need a school named Canterlot High, and the rest falls into place.

I'm not sure what on earth you're taking about here.....

Canterlot is a "reference" to Camelot, a castle/court associated with King Arthur, but with horse terms.

Wondercolts? A colt is a young male horse.

Canter is a horse gait.

Which could easily explain how it is "Canterlot Wondercolts".

It's so simple that you basically answered yourself.

???

The reason those terms exist in MLP, is because they are horse puns for things that exist in our world.

Thus, they are horse puns for a place that exists in "our world" in the movie.

You asked how.

That is how.

Possible reason #this is the right one: They were just trying to create anthropomorphic representations of the characters and Equestria in general.

I meant about canon reasons, that's what I said in my OP

My High School was the [Name Redacted] Stallions. Symmetry is as symmetry does, and it makes sense without symmetry too :D

I believe that is a sufficient canon reason.
