Redemption, Recollection, and Regret

Overdrive

Chapter I

He was born on March 3rd, 1995. His mother, a homemaker and his father, a mechanic. It was a bright, sunny morning when he came into the world. The hospital staff of San Burrito Medical Center were thrilled with what had just occurred: the first pegasus born within the limits of the city since 1932.

Overdrive was a healthy, cheerful and intelligent baby and child. His parents always admired him, and encouraged him to experiment and try new things. Growing up, he always had phases: musical phases, acting phases, sports phases… the list went on and on. One thing stuck out to both Overdrive, as well as his parents, and that was his natural gift for machines, and anything mechanical. From a young age, it was clear that Overdrive enjoyed tinkering with things, evident by the microwave oven he not only took apart, but managed to get back together without any aid.

“Well dear,” his mother would often say, “I guess we know where he gets that from. *winks*” “I suppose you’re right about that,” his father often replied. Overdrive’s father was a mechanic by trade, who too, exhibited prowess such as Overdrive’s at a young age. His father followed the instincts, and dedicated his life to helping every pony with their mechanical needs.

With every passing year, he grew more and more. He became more and more interested in how things worked, and the intricacies that came with each. At the same time, he was still a normal colt, happy and carefree as anyone his age. It all changed one day, while walking home from school. He noticed his father sitting on the porch, crying. He came up, and asked “Dad, what’s wrong?” “Son,” his father replied, whimpering in between, “I don’t know how to tell you this, but your mother, she… she passed away today son.” Overdrive stood there for a minute, speechless, then began sobbing. “What happened Dad,” he asked. “She was here at home today, while you were at school and while I was at work. Somepony wanted to break into the house, and well… they took her away.” Overdrive still didn’t understand. “What do you mean by ‘took her away?’” His father, choking back the tears, responded, “She’s in heaven now, buddy. She’s in a better place…”

Years passed, Overdrive graduated school, and soon was found working next to his father, fixing just about anything with gears, pulleys or circuits. He enjoyed his work. He got to learn new techniques and about new technologies every day. He shared a special bond with his father, in not only were they co-workers, but his father was a mentor to him as well. Even their nights were spent wrenching on a machine, but one much more personal and bonding.

Overdrive’s father had an old car parked behind the house. You could tell the car had been sitting for quite a while, and as the story goes, it was his grandfather’s first car when he returned from the armed forces. Overdrive’s father and grandfather were planning on fixing it up, but a war wound claimed his grandfather’s life before it could have been completed. The car instead became a project between Overdrive and his father, as outlined in his grandfather’s will. It was special, it was sentimental, and it was something that would never be forgotten about. It was sentimental for many reasons: not only had it been in the family for years, but it’s how Overdrive got his cutie mark.

Ever since he was a colt, Overdrive always sat in the car while his father worked on it, pretending to drive it while barely able to reach the pedals. When he was old enough, his father let Overdrive work with him on it. The first time he turned the wrench, just to remove a bolt, he felt a tingling sensation on his hind quarters. He did it a few more times, and by the time each bolt was removed, a silver wrench appeared on his flank, easily visible on his crimson fur. He was proud of it, as much as his father was proud standing right next to him. His mother smiled down from heaven, proud that her special boy had found his talent.

Chapter II

One bright and sunny afternoon, much like the day Overdrive was born, he was out back, getting ready to fire up the old car, seeing if it would run again, like it did many years before. His father was in the house, getting ingredients to make barbeque on the grill. At the time, both knew it wasn’t the safest idea to be outside at that time.

The city of San Burrito had been experiencing a rise in gang violence and riots, stemming from the recent legislature passed to make the city safer. It wasn’t uncommon to hear gunfire, graffiti artists claiming their territory, or someone arguing over how loud music was playing. But that day, something happened that nopony expected.

As his father came back outside, Overdrive climbed into the driver’s seat of the car. Once he closed the door, he said a prayer under his breath, turned the key, and the engine struggled to turn over. It clicked, rattled, popped, but refused to start. He tried several times, each time achieving the same result. He hopped back out, looked in the engine bay, and realized a wire was loose. Overdrive reconnected the wire, prayed again, turned the key and the engine roared back to life, with the roar and ferocity it once had years ago. His father immediately ran over, and scratched his head. “How in the name of Equestria did you get that to start,” he asked. “It was actually easier than I thought, Dad,” he replied.” You forgot to reconnect the fuel lines, and the carburetor was flooded with oil. After fixing that, it fired up good as new.”

His father sat there, smiling. “Your mother and grandfather would be very proud to see this this old car running again. It brings back a lot of memories, doesn’t it sport?” “You bet dad,” Overdrive replied.

They both decided dinner could wait; they wanted to take the old car for a spin. “Here son, you drive,” his father said, while tossing the keys. Puzzled, Overdrive asked, “Are you sure Dad?” “Son, it would be my honor. You got it running, so your reward is you get to drive it first,” he said, patting his son on the back. “Thanks Dad,” he said, firing up the old car again. At this point, it was near dusk, as the sun slowly set. They both knew the violence would escalate as the sun set, so they decided to make it quick, head back home, and have dinner soon after.

The ride was quick, proving the old car hadn’t lost its touch in the years it sat isolated. Soon after, they returned home, had dinner, and watched a bit of television. Overdrive was off to bed soon after, as his father finished the chores for the night. He looked out of the window, noticing how much more violent and dangerous it was to stay in San Burrito. He made a decision that night, one in the best interest of his son. It was a hard decision, it wasn’t an easy decision, but he knew he had to make it.

The sun rose the next morning, and greeted Overdrive with its presence, slowly awaking him from his slumber. As Overdrive put his work clothes on, his father came into the room. “Good morning, son, how’d you sleep last night?” Overdrive responded, “I slept great Dad, thanks for asking.” As overdrive continued to get ready, his father spoke again. “Overdrive, I need to ask you to do me a huge favor.” “Sure Dad,” Overdrive responded, “What is it?”

His father began to choke and tear up. “Son, I need you to pack your things and get out of here. It’s not safe for a young stallion like you around here anymore. The crime is getting more violent, more reckless and more dangerous.” His father began a full sob. “Son, this is very hard for me to ask you this, but I need you to be safe. Being here, in San Burrito, it isn’t safe anymore.” Overdrive immediately began whimpering, “But Dad, I don’t understand… What about you?” His father began to choke back the tears, “I need to stay here son. The good, innocent people still need me. I’m doing this with your best interest in mind. Please son, travel east, find a new home in Equestria. I will find you when I feel it is safe.”

One question still bothered Overdrive. He proceeded to ask “Dad, how am I going anywhere,” to which his father replied, “You’re going to take your grandfather’s car. He would want you to. He, as well as your mother and I, want you to be safe. Please son, I beg you. Please go, and find safety.” Overdrive, in full sob, cried out “I understand Dad. I’ll miss you while we’re apart. Please, don’t be long.” His father replied, “I will son, I promise I will find you as soon as I can.”

With that last phrase embedded in his mind, Overdrive soon set off, away from the violence and danger, away from his beginnings, and away from his father. As he slowly crossed the great land of Equestria, he followed the roads to wherever they would lead.

Chapter III

From San Burrito he traveled, past the bright lights and spectacle that was Applewood. Past the dry San Palomino Desert, past the Ghastly Gorge, and through the Everfree Forest. He arrived in a sleepy yet cheerful village. It was at that point his old car ran out of fuel. ‘Just great,’ Overdrive thought to himself, ‘the car’s out of gas. Now what?’ At that point, it was decided that wherever he broke down, was going to be home. He decided to leave the car where it died. “I don’t think anyone will disturb it. Besides, without fuel, this thing isn’t the lightest to move.” At that point, he walked into town, and headed for the town hall. As he walked through the doors of town hall, and headed for the real estate desk. “Pardon me,” he addressed the pony sitting at the desk, “I’m new to town, and I was wondering if there was any property I could rent or buy?” The pony sitting behind the desk soon replied “Well, first, welcome to Ponyville. I’m…” “Wait, did you say Ponyville, miss?” Overdrive inquired. The pony replied, “Yes, this is Ponyville. My name is Mayor Mare. I run our little town here, as well as manage legal details, such as real estate. Now, may I ask who you are, and if you don’t mind, where you are from.” Overdrive obliged, “Not a problem at all. My name is Overdrive, and I come here from San Burrito, over on the west coast.”

Mayor Mare replied, “Well it is very nice to meet you, and I would like to welcome you to Ponyville. Now, as for your real estate request, I’m afraid I only have one building left until the construction project is finished.” Overdrive said, “Well, it has to be better than nothing. May I see it?” “It’s not much, and at this point, I’m looking for someone to take it off my hands,” Mayor Mare stated,” It’s an old abandoned garage, on the edge of town.”

“That’s actually perfect,” Overdrive assured the Mayor. “How much is it, though. I don’t have many bits left.” Mayor thought about it for a second, then replied, “I’ll tell you what. I haven’t had anyone ask me about the property. It’s an eyesore. If you put the labor into repairing it, it’s all yours, scot free.” Overdrive, pleased, responded, “I really appreciate it Mayor. You have no idea how much you are helping me out.” “I should be thanking you,” Mayor Mare responded, “That property has been sitting dormant for years. The fact that you are willing to take the initiative to fix it up, it makes me proud to see that. Seeing that, I know you’ll fit in well here. Welcome to Ponyville, Overdrive.”

After the real estate situation was sorted out, Overdrive found enough fuel to get his car across town, to his new property. As the car sputtered to a stop in front of the garage, he looked at it and said, “Well, here’s to a new life in Ponyville. That reminds me, I need to write to Dad, see how he’s doing.”

As he unlocked the door, and looked inside, he noticed all the equipment that was left inside. Overdrive thought to himself, ‘I haven’t used tools like this in a while, but I’ll make due for now.’ Once the lights warmed up entirely, he took a better look into his new digs. “Well,” Overdrive said, “It isn’t the greatest, but it’ll make due. Maybe I can get some fabric somewhere, and set up a hammock in the corner to sleep in.” He thought about it for a minute, then remembered the tarp in the trunk of his car, and quickly retrieved it. “This should work for now,” he said. “I need to get set up here first, make myself at home, and tidy up the garage.” Overdrive then began to tidy up, and he cleaned and repaired long into the night, to the point where days turned into nights, and nights turned into days. A week passed, and his work was complete. He took part of the tarp, ripped it off, found some old paint, and painted a sign. “‘Ground Up Restoration and Repair.’ I dig it. *yawns* It’s been a long week. I’ll get some shuteye, and open in the morning.”

Chapter IV

The morning quickly approached, and Overdrive awoke bright and early. ‘Well, this is it,’ he thought. ‘This is the first day of the rest of my life. My folks would be proud.’ He then walked into the office, and flipped the open sign, letting everypony know he was open for business. He waited, and waited. He waited for about an hour, then became bored and decided to work on the old car. He knew he could hear the door open, and he could hear ponies approach the counter from the work bay.

Going in the back to work on his car for a little while, he soon heard the front door open, as well as the happy, prancing hoofsteps of a pony. He put down his tools, wiped off his hands, and walked over to the counter. Overdrive noticed a pink pony standing in the waiting room. She had a curly, wild mane, and her balloon cutie mark adorned her flanks. “May I help you,” he asked.

“I haven’t seen you around before. Are you new,” said the pony in quick secession. “Yes, in fact, I am new to Ponyville,” Overdrive admitted. “How could you tell?” The pony replied, “This building looked different to me. I haven’t seen it look this nice before.” Overdrive, perplexed, then responded, “The Mayor was nice enough to allow me to use and have the property, on the condition I fixed it up. I took the last week, got it in shape, and now I’m open for business. By the way, I never got your name, miss.”

The pink pony replied, “Of course, how could I forget. I’m Pinkie Pie. It’s nice to meet you.” Overdrive responded, “Well, it’s very to meet you Pinkie Pie.” “Oh, I almost forgot, I need to throw you a party,” Pinkie Pie said. “I throw a party for every new pony that comes to Ponyville.” “I appreciate it, Pinkie Pie,” Overdrive said, “But if you don’t mind, I’d rather wait on the party. I’m still getting adjusted.”

With that, Pinkie Pie understood. “Okie Dokie Lokie. Just let me know when you want it. One other thing, before I go. Do you want me to show you around town?” Overdrive thought about it for a minute, then replied, “I would, but not right now. I’m open. I wouldn’t mind later, though. How’s that sound?” Pinkie, bursting with joy, replied, “That sounds absolutely perfect. I’ll see you then. Nice meeting you.” “Nice meeting you too, Pinkie,” Overdrive said, as Pinkie walked out the door. ‘Well, back to the car,’ Overdrive thought. ‘I don’t think I’m going to get any customers today, but I’ll stay open anyway.’

Chapter V

The rest of the day went very quietly, being the first day he was open. After a while, Overdrive realized he needed more supplies, as his car was near ready for primer, but the supplies in the garage were beyond expiration. It was then he remembered to write to his father back in San Burrito. As he grabbed pen and paper, he began to write:

            Dear Dad,

First off, I miss you. I miss you a lot. I wish you were here with me right now. Hopefully you will be soon enough.

Anyway, I have arrived in Ponyville. Hopefully you know where that is. The old car got me here in one piece, albeit it ran out of fuel as I got into town. The ponies here seem very nice and friendly, although I haven’t met many yet.

You’d be proud of me, Dad. I got my own shop, and I am open for business every day, waiting to help each and every pony in need.

Anyway, I miss you, Dad, and I hope to hear from you soon. Please write back.

                                                                                                                               Your son,

                                                                                                                               Overdrive.

He sealed up the envelope, addressed it back home, and put it in the mailbox, for the mailpony to take to San Burrito. In the meantime, Overdrive began cleaning up for the night, although he didn’t do much to begin with. He flipped the sign over, and as he turned around, Pinkie Pie walked in. “Hello Pinkie Pie. What are you doing here?”

Pinkie, remembering the offer she made earlier with Overdrive, chimed in, “I’m going to show you around tonight, remember silly?” He thought for a minute, then remembered, “Wait, that’s right. Yeah, just give me a minute to finish cleaning up.”

Overdrive finished tidying up, and joined Pinkie Pie outside. “So, Pinkie, I’ll follow your lead. Is that alright?” Pinkie perked up, “That’s perfect. We’ll go to Sugarcube Corner first.”

The pair went to Sugarcube Corner, where Pinkie introduced Overdrive to the Cakes, as well as gave Overdrive a treat. “Thanks Pinkie. Now where to?” Pinkie quickly replied, “I figured we’d go over to the Carousel Boutique. My friend Rarity is there.” Overdrive obliged, “Alrighty then. I’ll follow you. Soon after, the two arrived at the Carousel Boutique, where the two were immediately greeted by Rarity. “Good evening, Pinkie Pie. Who is that filthy compatriot of yours?” Overdrive, taken aback a bit by this comment, responsed, “My name is Overdrive, miss. I’m new here. Pinkie Pie offered to show me around. I was working all day in my garage.”

Rarity, intrigued by Overdrive’s honesty, asked a bit more. “Where are you from, Overdrive? How have you adjusted to being in Ponyville?” He answered, “I’ll be honest, I am from the west coast. San Burrito, to be specific. Ponyville’s a lot different from the west coast, but it’s a lot quieter here. A lot more peaceful here. I actually enjoy it more the big city.” Before they could continue, Pinkie spoke up, “Uh Rarity, do you have that ‘thing’ ready I asked for?” Rarity then darted inside, and returned with a package. “Why yes I do, darling. Here you go, Overdrive. Pinkie said you needed something like this, so I went ahead and made one special, just for you. Go on, open it. I want to see what you think.”

Overdrive opened the package. “Rarity, Pinkie… I really appreciate it.” Inside the packaging, was a hammock, but it was different. It was almost a hammock/sleeping bag hybrid, where it hung like a hammock, but had a built in pillow and blanket. “This will really help me out,” Overdrive rejoiced. “No one’s ever done something like this for me.” Rarity chimed in, “Well I’m glad you like it, dear. You deserve it.” “Well, we still have more to see,” Pinkie said. “We’ll see you later, Rarity.” Overdrive added, “It was very nice to meet you, Rarity. I hope to see you around.” “Farewell, darlings,” Rarity said, as she returned to the Carousel Boutique.

Chapter VI

As the two continued the tour of Ponyville, Overdrive began to think, for his memories of the violence, the hostility and the utter chaos that was San Burrito. All he could see was peace, happiness, and compassion, between all of the ponies in Ponyville. ‘I could get used to this,’ he thought to himself. ‘I really could.’

As he continued to think, Pinkie Pie interrupted his thought process. “Here’s the Golden Oak Library. My friend Twilight Sparkle lives here. Come on, I bet she’d be glad to meet you.” Overdrive replied, “By all means,” as the two entered the library. As they entered, they were greeted by an annoyed voice. “Who’s there? I’m a bit busy right now, can’t really come down there.”

Pinkie then responded, “Twilight, it’s me, Pinkie. Do you have a minute?” “What is it, Pinkie? I’m a bit preoccupied right now,” Twilight answered. Overdrive chose to speak, “We can come back at another time. We don’t mean to bother you.” From hearing the unfamiliar, new voice, Twilight stopped what she was doing, and came down to see who it was. “I haven’t seen you around here before. Are you new?” “He’s-” Pinkie began to say, but Overdrive interrupted, “I’ve got this Pinkie Pie. My name is Overdrive. I’m fairly new to town here. Pinkie’s just showing me around.” Twilight immediately replied, “Well, it’s very nice to meet you, but uh, I can’t say I’ve never seen a pony quite like you before.”

At this point, Overdrive was taken aback by the comment, but shrugged it off. His bright crimson fur, wild and spiked mane clearly showed he wasn’t from Ponyville, not to mention being a male pegasus meant he was a bit taller and sleeker than most ponies. His eyes, a deep royal blue, contrasted significantly from the rest of his body, as did his highlighted mane and tail. He took pride in his appearance, despite the spots of oil and whatever else was on it from his work earlier in the day.

After hearing what Twilight had said, he simply replied, “I’m from the west coast; San Burrito, to be specific. I’m a mechanic.” Twilight, putting two and two together, then said, “It all makes sense now. It is very nice to meet you- Pinkie Pie, please don’t do that,” as Pinkie was building a fort out of the library’s books. “Sorry,” Pinkie uttered, “I guess I got bored.” Twilight, hoof in face out of disgust, scolded Pinkie, “Pinkie Pie, please just leave them alone. I just got done organizing everything after the party you threw the other day.”

At this point, Overdrive knew it would be best if the two made their exit. “Come on Pinkie,” he said shortly after, “I think you still have plenty to show me.” Pinkie burst out of her fort, sending books shooting every which way, and the two made their way to the door. Overdrive quickly turned around, and said to Twilight, “It was very nice meeting you. I hope to see you around.” Twilight, still annoyed by Pinkie’s actions, replied, “It was nice meeting you as well, Overdrive. Stop by anytime.” “I appreciate the offer,” Overdrive replied, as he and Pinkie left the library.

One thing still bothered Overdrive, as he learned more about his new home. He still wondered about his father, if he was ok, and when he would join Overdrive in Ponyville. For the moment, he brushed it off, and continued with Pinkie around Ponyville. Pinkie determined the next stop would be to a quiet cabin, on the outskirts of town, where a light green pegasus lived. Pinkie began telling Overdrive about Fluttershy, and her way with animals, but warned him that she is shy of new ponies. Overdrive understood what she said, but knew his appearance might startle Fluttershy.

“Hello, Pinkie Pie,” Fluttershy greeted the two as they walked up to her cabin. “What brings you here, and who’s your new friend?” Pinkie, bursting with joy, quickly introduced Overdrive, “This is Overdrive. He’s new to town.” Overdrive then added, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Fluttershy, is it?” Fluttershy, sheepishly replied, “Yes, I’m Fluttershy. It’s nice to meet you as well.” Overdrive took a look around, at all of the plants and animals that congregated near Fluttershy’s home. “You must have a green hoof,” he said to Fluttershy, who in return, replied, “I suppose you could say that. Say, would you two like some homemade lemonade? I must made it fresh.”

Pinkie, was eager to have anything sweet at this point, chomping at the bit to get some sort of sugar. Overdrive replied, “I am a bit thirsty. If you don’t mind, I would appreciate a glass.” Fluttershy obliged, returning shortly with 3 glasses of the fresh lemonade. After taking one sip, Overdrive complemented Fluttershy, “Wow, this is delicious. I know it’s just lemonade, but there’s something different about it.” Fluttershy, pleased to hear that, replied, “It’s a secret. I can’t tell you what’s in it. But I’m glad you enjoy it.”

“Alright Pinkie, I think it would be best if I got back home for the night,” Overdrive said. “It’s getting late, and I do need to open the shop tomorrow, if you don’t mind. It was nice meeting you, Fluttershy. It really was.” Fluttershy, replied, “It was nice meeting you too.” Pinkie finished her lemonade, and the two bid farewell to Fluttershy. As they approached Overdrive’s garage, Pinkie said goodnight, and walked home. As Overdrive walked into his garage, he opened the gift Rarity had given him, set it up, and then slowly drifted off into sleep, his mind plaguing him with numerous things. But he relaxed, and fell right asleep, waiting for the next day to come.

Chapter VII

As the morning approached, the sun awoke Overdrive. Soon after, he was prepared to start his day, and open his workshop. The second the sign was flipped, Pinkie Pie came in, with a basket of baked goods from Sugarcube Corner. “Good morning, Pinkie Pie, what can I do for you?” Pinkie Pie, as happy as ever, replied, “Well, I figured that since you start your day so early, maybe some breakfast would be nice. I brought muffins from the bakery. I hope you don’t mind.” Overdrive examined the basket, then picked a blueberry muffin from the pile. “Not at all, Pinkie,” he replied, while eating the muffin. “If anything, I really appreciate it. What do you have on tap today?”

Pinkie sat there for a minute, and replied, “I don’t really know. I don’t have anything going on.” “Overdrive thought for a minute, then said, “Well, if you need company, you could just hang out around here. I haven’t really seen any other ponies come in.” As he said that, a terracotta pony trotted in, pulling what appeared to be an old, damaged plow. She noticed Pinkie Pie, and asked, “Pinkie, what in tarnation are you doing here, and how long has this been here for?” Pinkie, with a face full of muffins, tried to answer, but couldn’t. Overdrive stepped in, “Can I help you miss…?” “You can call me, Applejack, partner. Wait, I haven’t seen you before. What brings you to these parts?”

Overdrive thought about what he was going to say for a minute, but Pinkie Pie jumped in, “That’s Overdrive. He moved here not too long ago from somewhere out west.” Overdrive then interjected, “Yes, I am new. I’m from San Burrito, but moved here just the other week. Now, what can I do for you?” “Well, you see,” Applejack said, “My plow has seen better days, and now it’s falling apart. I don’t reckon you could try to fix it, could you?” Overdrive, eager to help a pony out, replied, “I have no problem taking a look at it. Here, let me open the garage door, and you can bring it in there.”

Applejack brought the plow in. It was clear it had, in fact, seen better days, evident by the busted rivets, rusted blade, and overall deplorable condition. “I think I see what the problem is,” Overdrive told Applejack, “No offense by this, but it’s not the strongest material holding this thing together. I just might have the solution, but it’ll take a little while to make. If you’d hang out in the waiting room, I’ll have this out in no time.” Applejack, pleased with this, responded, “Much obliged, partner.”

Overdrive then grabbed the sheet of reinforced steel sitting in the corner. He began to work like clockwork, machining the different parts and fittings. In a few hours’ time, his work was complete, and a shiny new and improved plow sat there, ready to take on whatever earth may lay in its path. He walked out to the waiting room, where Applejack sat. “Applejack, if you’d follow me, your plow is done.”

Admiring his work, Applejack said, “Wow, this looks even better than what I expected.” Overdrive then assured her, “It will now work better than you expected too. The whole thing has been reinforced using a stronger metal, as well as the blade angle reworked to give you better results.” Applejack, amazed by all of this, asked, “Well alright then, but how much do I owe you?” He thought for a second, then answered, “It’s free of charge, on one condition. Tell ponies about my work, and that I’m open for business. It was nice meeting you, and it wasn’t a problem at all.”

Applejack then grabbed the plow, and addressed Pinkie Pie. “Pinkie, the pigs are looking for someone to give them a bath. Why don’t you come and give me a hand with that?” She then turned to Overdrive, and replied, “It was nice meeting you too, and thanks again.” Pinkie, bursting at the seams, blurted out, “Did you say pigs?! Let’s go!” “Goodbye Pinkie, have fun,” Overdrive said, as the two mares left his shop. At that point, the sun was setting, and it was determined it was time to close up for the day. As he closed up, Overdrive sat there for a minute, and thought about everything that had transpired in the past several days. It put him in a good mood, knowing he had come to know such generous and nice ponies, and that they knew he was just as nice and generous. It put his mind at ease, allowing him to comfortably relax.

He pulled out the old record player, and found his vinyl stash, hidden in the trunk of the car. All his favorite albums were there, from Alice Hoofer, Queen, Pontera, and so many others. He just grabbed one at random, set it on the record player, and just listened to music as he drifted to sleep, relaxed and calm as ever. He knew everything was going to work out just fine, and was happy with where he was in life.

Chapter VIII

Overdrive’s days started as they normally do: the sun awoke him from his slumber, he got cleaned up, and opened the shop. Pinkie Pie regularly stopped by, with baked goods from Sugarcube Corner, and often spent the majority of her day just hanging out at the shop. Ponies would come in from time to time, each with small issues that would take little to no time to solve. Being his business was so new, it was never a steady flow, but he didn’t mind.

There was one day, after a few weeks had passed, where the day’s events were a bit odd compared to the normal events Overdrive had seen for weeks prior. Pinkie Pie stopped in briefly that day, before leaving. It was a quiet day, and it allowed Overdrive to work on his car. Right around the lunch hour, he heard the door fly open, and in came a blue pegasus, scratchy voice, and rather messy mane and tail. He looked at her for a minute, before uttering his normal phrase, “How can I help you today?”

The pegasus perked up, noticing she hadn’t seen Overdrive before. “Have I seen you before,” she asked. Overdrive then replied, “I don’t believe we’ve met before, miss. My name is Overdrive. I’m fairly new to Ponyville.” The blue pegasus, responded, “I’m Rainbow Dash. Nice to meet ya.”

Overdrive then prompted Rainbow Dash, “Now, what can I do for you this fine day?” She replied, “I’m running a favor for Rarity. Apparently here sewing machine broke, and she needs it fixed ASAP. Can you fix it?” He responded, “Let me take a look here.” As he inspected the sewing machine, something caught Rainbow Dash’s eye. She slowly walked towards the back of the shop, where the old car was. “If you don’t mind me asking,” she said, “What exactly is that?” Overdrive, occupied with the sewing machine, quickly responded, “That old thing? It’s just an old car. It’s been in my family for generations. I’ve been working on it from time to time, but it’s taking a long time to get done… OUCH, THAT HURT!!!” He was distracted by Rainbow Dash’s question, and ended up jamming his hoof in the mechanism of the sewing machine.

“Oh, I’m sorry about that,” Rainbow Dash said, flying over to see what she had caused. Overdrive managed to wrench his hoof from back out of the machine. “No worries, it happens quite often. I see what the problem is.” Rainbow dash then took a look inside the machine. “It looks like the shaft either spun its spindle, or that gear has had it teeth ground off.” Stunned for a minute, Overdrive replied in amazement, “That’s exactly what I was going to say. How did you know that?” Rainbow Dash, blushing, responded, “Honestly, I took a guess. Will it be hard to fix?” Overdrive quickly iterated, “No, not at all. Do you see the toolbox over there? In the top drawer, the parts should be in there. If you’d do me a favor and grab them for me, I’d appreciate it.”

Rainbow Dash went over, and found the parts exactly where Overdrive described. She brought them over, and handed them to Overdrive. “I appreciate it,” he said, while installing the parts. “Now, just one more turn and… a ha, there we go, good as new.” The machine whirled back to life, perfectly in sync, without any hiccups. “Here you go, Rainbow Dash, ready to go back to Rarity.” Rainbow Dash gladly received the machine. “She’ll appreciate it, heck I appreciate it. Thanks a lot, Overdrive,” Rainbow said Overdrive replied, “Not a problem whatsoever. You take care now, alright?” Walking out the door, Rainbow Dash responded, “Will do, see ya around.”

That night, Overdrive sat awake, thinking, but thinking about something different than before, something entirely new. He kept thinking about Rainbow Dash, and thinking that there weren’t too many other pegasi in Ponyville, apart from Fluttershy. ‘There’s something about her,’ he thought, ‘I don’t know what it is, but there is just something about her that I really like. I wish I knew. Maybe I’ll see her again.’

Across town, Rainbow Dash lay awake in her Cloudominium, thinking as well. She was wide awake, thinking about Overdrive. ‘It’s not too often you see a male pegasus in Ponyville, much rather anywhere outside of Cloudsdale,’ she thought. ‘There’s something about him that makes me want to get to know him better. Wait, what are you saying, Rainbow Dash,’ she thought to herself, ‘Are you saying you like him?’ She then began speaking to herself, “I guess. I’ve never felt like this before, it makes me feel like an egghead, but it’s a good feeling. I don’t know, maybe I’ll see him again soon.

Both knew they had some sort of interest in each other, but neither knew why. They also didn’t know they were thinking about each other at the same time, separated by only the distance across town. Before they both fell asleep, they thought the same thing at the exact same time: ‘Maybe, just maybe, he/she likes me. I’d like to see him/her again soon. Maybe tomorrow.’ And with that, they both drifted off, into a deep sleep, waiting to see what the next day would hold.

Chapter IX

The weekend had finally arrived, in which Overdrive gave himself 2 days off, although he was still willing to help a pony out if need be. He decided that the shop’s exterior needed a new paint job, and with that goal in mind, headed to market, with bits in hand. He thought a nice candy apple red would help his shop stand apart. After paying the salespony, he walked around a bit, and noticed Applejack was working a stand, purveying all of Sweet Apple Acres’ various goods. He decided to stop by, grab a bite to eat, and ask how the plow was working out.

“Hey there, Applejack,” he said. Applejack quickly turned around, and replied, “Hey there, Overdrive. How are ya on this fine day?” “I’m doing just great on this beautiful Saturday. How’s the plow working out?” Applejack, occupied with serving her customers’ orders, replied, “It’s perfect. I’ve never plowed a field so quick and smooth before. I really appreciate it.” Overdrive, happy with his work, replied, “Again, not a problem at all, that’s what I’m here for. Before I go, can I buy an apple fritter? I haven’t have anything to eat all morning.” Overdrive handed her a bit. “Here you go, Sugarcube. I’ll see you around, alright?” Overdrive, inhaling the delicious smell of the fritter, replied, “Take care now, Applejack,” and went on his way.

Overdrive noticed a pony with a cart full of old records, and decided to go over and take a look. At the same time, Rainbow Dash wandered over the other side of the cart, and began browsing as well. “Ah, these are perfect, I’ve been looking for these records for a while now,” Overdrive iterated, while handing the salespony a few bits. He then eyed one he didn’t see beforehand, and as he put his hoof on it, a certain blue pegasus put her hoof on it at the same time. “Oh, I’m sorry,” he said. “Wait a minute, I didn’t know you were into this kind of music, Rainbow Dash. Here, you can have it, I’ve got enough as it is.” Overdrive then proceeded to hand the salespony another bit. “What did you do that for,” Rainbow Dash asked, puzzled, but knew the real reason why.

“Well, since you helped me out yesterday fixing Rarity’s sewing machine, I figured I could at least reward you,” Overdrive gleefully replied. “It’s no big deal, really.” Rainbow Dash, blushing, then said, “But I know this is your type of music. I couldn’t possibly take this.” He then replied, “No keep it, I’m serious. You earned it.” Rainbow Dash, now in entire disbelief, cooked up an idea. “I’ll keep it, on one condition. You have to listen to it with me.” Overdrive chuckled a bit, “If you say so, Rainbow. If you say so.”

He thought for a minute, then thought up his own idea. “How about this? I’m planning on repainting the shop later, and I do like to have music on while I work. How about you bring it with you, and you can help me paint. You up for it?” In her mind, Rainbow kept thinking, ‘OHMIGOSHMOHMIGOSHOHMIGOSH, this is not happening right now. Please tell me I’m dreaming.’ She then said, “Sounds like I plan. I’ll be by later, ok?” Overdrive then confirmed, “It’s a deal, I’ll see you later on.”

The two went their separate ways. Overdrive, back to his shop, carrying the paint and records he purchased at the market. Rainbow Dash, to the Daring Do stand, prepared to purchase the latest installment of her favorite book, then back home. Both were in disbelief about what just occurred, and each looked forward to the events that were to come.

Chapter X

The rest of the morning came and went. Overdrive cleaned up the shop, in preparation for painting. In doing so, he plucked a Queen record from his stash, and played it as he worked. About an hour or so later, Rainbow Dash arrived, calm and collected, despite the fact she was bursting at the seams, eager to spend time with Overdrive. The second she walked through the door, the record player started playing another song, “Somepony to Love.” Overdrive was entirely oblivious to this, and went over to greet Rainbow Dash. “I didn’t know you liked this song,” she said, when that very second, Overdrive realized what song was playing. He scrambled over to the record players, ready to shut it off, when she said, “No, keep it on. It fits the moment right now.” Embarrassed, Overdrive just nodded, and began laying the drop cloth.

“Tell me, Rainbow Dash, what do you like to do for fun,” Overdrive asked. “If you don’t mind me asking, that is?” Rainbow Dash answered, “Honestly, I like to fly, just for fun. I’m the fastest flyer in all of Equestria. Do you do any flying?” Overdrive, a bit embarrassed, sheepishly admitted, “I don’t really do any flying. I never really learned how. I was the first pegasus born in nearly 100 years in San Burrito. No one was there to teach me. I don’t really mind, though.”

Rainbow Dash was tempted to laugh, but realized how much that could upset Overdrive. She instead said, “Hey, whatever makes you feel comfortable. If you want though, I could teach you sometime.” Overdrive processed what she had just said, and replied, “I’d like that. I’d like that a lot actually. But for right now, how about we get painting?” “Sounds like a plan,” Rainbow Dash said, “But first, there’s something I need to do.”

She retrieved her satchel, and pulled out the record Overdrive bought her earlier that day. “Wait, you actually remembered,” he asked. Rainbow Dash eagerly replied, “Of course, how could I forget the deal we made. Now come on, we’ve got some painting to do.” Seconds turned into minutes, and minutes turned into hours as the entire garage received bright, fresh paint. The two ponies were enjoying their time together, and it felt as if nothing could stop, until they ran out of walls to paint.

“Well, I guess that’s the end of that fun,” Overdrive declared. I didn’t think it would take that long, though.” Rainbow Dash, marveling the work they had accomplished, replied, “Yeah, but we had a good time. I know I enjoyed it, and plus this place looks 20% cooler now.” “I guess you’re right about that,” Overdrive obliged. Wow, it’s late. Would you like me to walk you home, Rainbow Dash?” She thought about it for a minute, then replied, “I’d enjoy that.”

They took their time getting to the Cloudominium. “Taking their time” included a stroll through the park, stopping to skip a few stones across the pond, just slowly walking, enjoying each other’s company. When they got to the Cloudominium, they just stood there for a little, looked up and noticed only the first star of the night was showing. They each made their wish. Afterwards, they decided to tell each other what it was.

“My wish, was to spend time with you, Rainbow Dash,” Overdrive admitted, “It really was.” Shocked, and blushing, Rainbow Dash admitted, “Funny, that was my wish too.”

At that moment, they looked into each other’s eyes, and as they met, they moved in closer to each other. With each passing moment, they became more and more inseparable, until the one moment, where it all came together. They both knew what was about to happen as Overdrive leaned in, ever so casually, and kissed Rainbow Dash. Both of their eyes were closed, and for a few seconds, time stopped around them, as they just embraced and enjoyed what was going on.

After a few seconds, Overdrive slowly backed off, releasing his hold on Rainbow Dash. They both stood there for a second, speechless and in entire disbelief by what just happened. Rainbow Dash stuttered for a minute, “Uh... Uh uh… Wow. That was…” Before she could finish her thought, Overdrive finished it for her, “…I don’t even know what to say. That…” Then, in unison, they both said, “Goodnight. I guess I’ll see you tomorrow then. Thanks again for today,” and both went their separate ways for the evening.

As Overdrive walked back, he thought to himself, ‘There is no way in the name of Equestria that that actually happened. Why would she want a stallion like me anyway? I’m shattered, and I didn’t even think I could love again. I just don’t know what to think.’ At the same time, Rainbow Dash laid in her bed, thinking, ‘There’s no way that he’s falling for me. It can’t be true. Ugh, this will ruin my image. My reputation. MY LIFE IS RUINED!!!!! Maybe I’m overreacting right now. Maybe this will all work out. *sighs* But how will I tell my friends about this?’

Then, they both spoke, far away, but the same words, “I love him/her. I really do. I don’t know if he/she feels the same way. I hope he/she does. It’s scary how much alike we are.” With that, and their minds full of unanswered questions, they drifted off asleep, looking for answers as the next day inched forward.

Chapter XI

The next morning, both awoke, still stuck in a haze courtesy of the events that transpired the night before. Both Overdrive and Rainbow Dash still had questions. Both still didn’t understand what really happened the night before, and both didn’t know where to go from there. For the moment being, both went about their day normally.

Overdrive awoke, his mind still abuzz with what occurred last night. He sat and thought about it, but shrugged it off, and proceeded with his Sunday. Rainbow Dash, too, awoke from her slumber, and she too, was still caught in the haze that was the night before. She sat there, for quite a long time, trying to process what happened. If anything, she had more questions than he did. She was a lot more confused than he was, and as a result, Rainbow Dash was more eager to find the answers she was looking for. They both were eager to figure out the answers to their questions.

It was unusual that again, both were headed to the market, once again. Overdrive decided to go to find furniture for his “home,” as well as groceries for the week. Rainbow Dash stumbled there, trying to make sense of what had happened the night before.

The reason Overdrive didn’t have as many unanswered questions, was due to his beliefs. The events in his early life led him to believe from a young age, that there was a higher being, which brought ponies in and out of lives for a reason, which caused certain things to happen for a reason. He always knew that at some point in his life, this higher being would bring that special somepony into his life. He had no idea it would be Rainbow Dash, nor did he know why. Regardless, he went on about his day, not letting his thoughts get the best of him.

He found the furniture booth at the market, ordering a couch, a few chairs, a bookshelf, a few tables, and a few lamps. After giving the salespony the payment and arranging the delivery, he then found a stand with various pieces of scrap metal. ‘Perfect,’ he thought to himself, ‘Just a little work, and I’ll have some really cool decorations for around the shop.’ Again, he paid the salespony, then walked over to the grocery bazaar. Everything fresh, organic and delicious, the decision became what to buy. Fruit, vegetables, dairy… he could cook just about anything, and enjoyed experimenting with wild flavors.

It was while he was checking out that Rainbow Dash walked into the market. The moment she walked in, Overdrive immediately caught glance of her, and continued about his business, trying hard not to let emotion get the best of him at that moment. She noticed him, too, but she wanted to know. She wanted to know if it was real, if there was a connection between them. She wanted to know whether true love was there or not. She decided to wait until Overdrive was done checking out before she would approach him. She decided to stand by the entrance, as if she was peering at the various magazines on display for purchase.

Overdrive gathered his things together, and began his departure. He noticed Rainbow Dash, and decided to say hello. “Morning, Rainbow Dash,” he said, as she tried to look as if she had not heard him. “Huh,” she said. “Oh, hey- hey there Overdrive. Funny seeing you here, isn’t it?” Overdrive, confused, then replied, “I suppose not Rainbow. It is the market, after all. How are you this morning?” At this point, it was obvious something was bothering Rainbow Dash, and Overdrive knew what it was. “Rainbow, is something bothering you?” he asked.

Rainbow Dash knew she had to be honest with him at this point. “Um, can I talk to you, in private?” Overdrive, perplexed by this, obliged, “Sure Rainbow. I was headed back home anyway. Why don’t you come with me?” Rainbow Dash, knowing she would find her answers, as much as Overdrive would find his, agreed, “Alright. Let’s go then.”

Chapter XII

Once they returned to the garage, Overdrive began unpacking his groceries. While he did this, Rainbow Dash began to speak. “Do you remember yesterday at all?” she asked. Overdrive paused for a second, thought, and returned to stocking his groceries. He replied, “Yes I do. It began at the market, where I bought you that record. We agreed you’d come help me paint the shop while we listened to that record. I walked you home later that night, and we…” At that moment, Rainbow Dash interrupted, “…We kissed. We were looking up at the stars, and as we looked back down, our eyes met, and we kissed.”

Overdrive, once again paused, only this time, he stopped all together, and walked over to Rainbow Dash. “Rainbow,” Overdrive said, “What happened last night, was magical. What happened last night was absolutely beautiful. Not only the stars, not only the time we spent together, but you, Rainbow Dash, are beautiful as well.” At this moment, Rainbow Dash began to tear up. “Nopony, has ever said that to me before.” Overdrive spoke again, “Rainbow Dash, you are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I mean that. What happened last night was real, and I do love you Rainbow Dash. I really do.”

At this moment, Rainbow Dash began to speak, amid crying, “I’ve never said this before, to anypony, but I love you too. *sobs* I’m such an egghead, but I’ve never felt this way before.” Overdrive sat down next to her, and held her as she cried. He looks right into her eyes, and told her, “You aren’t an egghead, Rainbow Dash. You are a beautiful, magnificent and special pony, and no one can take that away from you. That’s what I like about you, Rainbow. You are unique.” She choked back the tears, “Do you really mean that?”

Overdrive, now clutching Rainbow Dash even tighter, spoke very calm and softly, “Rainbow, I really mean it. I love you, Rainbow Dash. Do you love me?” She began crying again, but this time, it was a much happier, joyous cry. “Yes- yes I do. I love you so much, you don’t realize…” It was then Overdrive finished her statement, “I do realize how much you do. You love me as much as I love you. Rainbow Dash, you mean the world to me.”

By now, Rainbow Dash had regained her composure, and calmed down enough to understand what was going on. “Overdrive,” she said, “I’d like to keep this between us for right now, if you don’t mind.” Agreeing, Overdrive then said, “For now, I can respect your wishes. Remember Rainbow, this is all real. I do love you. I will always love you, as much as you love me.” It was at this moment he reached over, gave Rainbow Dash a long, big hug. She hugged back. They stayed in this position for a good minute before they released. “Well, since today is Sunday, what do you want to do, Rainbow?” Overdrive asked. “If it’s all right with you,” Rainbow Dash said, “I’d just like to relax. There’s a lot I have to think about.” “You and me both,” Overdrive replied, as they sat together, just enjoying each other’s company.

Chapter XIII

Monday came around, and just like the start of any work week, it meant not wanting to get out of bed, plenty of caffeine, and yet another day of waiting for customers. It also meant the first day of something wonderful, in the eyes of Overdrive. The past weekend for him meant another step forward in life, but instead of its now-normal steps forward alone, he had someone to step forward with. No, this Monday was different from most. Love was in the air for Overdrive. He was happy, and felt as if nothing could truly dampen his spirits.

That was until the mailpony came around. It wasn’t often Overdrive received meaningful mail. Usually his mailbox was clogged with useless junk mail. That day, was different. The mailpony left a letter this time, addressed to Overdrive. The letter was sent from the Princess herself. He opened it, knowing the letter was something special, but when he read it, his heart stopped. He stood speechless, and soon after, began uncontrollably sobbing. The letter read:

            To whom this may concern,

I am writing this letter today to inform you of your father’s, *******************’s untimely passing. He passed away on the *** of *******, 2014. You have been requested at his funeral, one week from the date this letter is postmarked. If you would RSVP at your earliest convenience, it would be deeply appreciated.

                                                                                    Sincerely,

                                                                                    Princess Celestia.

Overdrive was absolutely heartbroken. His father, the pony that raised him, and gave him life, taken away long before his time was up. Overdrive had a feeling what happened. The reason his father passed was the same reason he left San Burrito: the violence. “Oh my god,” he said, “Who would do such a thing?” His sobbing only became heavier and heavier. “Why me? Why did it have to happen to me?”

His father meant so much to him. His father was the world to him, and he meant the world to his father. He couldn’t believe what had happened. In response, Overdrive closed early. He knew the Mane Six were to come over later. He also knew he was in no position to deal with anypony until he calmed down. There was only one pony who would truly understand what he felt. Overdrive knew he needed to go to her.

Chapter XIV

Rainbow Dash’s Monday was fairly normal. She was still abuzz by what happened the night before. “OHMIGOSHOHMIGOSHOHMIGOSH, I can’t believe what happened last night. Somepony actually loves me. ME!!! Of all Ponies.” She was full of absolute ecstasy, bursting at the seams with joy and happiness.

Rainbow Dash was full of happiness and buzzing with energy. She went outside, and cleared the skies in record time. “9 seconds?! 9 SECONDS!!! I did it in 9 seconds!!!! AWW YEAH!!!!” Absolutely thrilled with her accomplishment, she felt it necessary to find Overdrive and tell him the good news.

By this time, Overdrive had calmed down enough to at least put on a face and go out in public. He moved as quickly as he could, needing desperately to talk to Rainbow Dash about the news he received. He reached the Cloudominium, and was met by a very pleasant and happy Rainbow Dash. “Hiya. How-“ Before Rainbow Dash could say anymore, Overdrive spoke, “Can we please go inside for a bit. I need to talk to you. Something happened today, and I need to talk to someone.” Rainbow Dash, taken back by this, obliged, “Sure, whatever you need, my special somepony.”

Once inside, Overdrive broke the news to Rainbow Dash, “I got a letter in the mail. From Princess Celestia.” Rainbow, surprised, said, “Well aren’t you lucky? I wish I got mail from Princess Celestia.” Overdrive, hiding his emotions, explained, “You don’t understand, Rainbow. It was a letter explaining my father had passed away back in San Burrito. He knew the violence was only getting worse. I’ve never told anypony this before, but I came here after he urged me to leave, out of safety. I landed here after that old car in the garage ran out of fuel.”

At this point, Rainbow became sympathetic, and held Overdrive as he began to cry, and continue his tale. “My dad meant the world to me, Rainbow. He really did, and I meant the world to him. He was supposed to meet me soon after I arrive in wherever my new home was to be. I guess he was right about the violence, and he made the right decision about my safety. He’s gone now, and there’s nothing I can do about it.”

“Overdrive, I had no idea,” Rainbow Dash said, in disbelief. “What are you going to do now?” He replied, “I guess the only thing I can do. Go to the funeral. Rainbow, I have a favor ask. I’d like you to go with me, if that’s alright. I know how much it would mean to not only me, but my folks, my grandfolks, my family in general. Please Rainbow, I need you right now.” Rainbow, taken back again, immediately answered, “I will go with you, no problem. I realize how much this hurts you, and I know you’ll need somepony for support right now.”

“Rainbow,” Overdrive sheepishly uttered. “Yeah Overdrive?” she replied. “Thank you. Thank you so much. I love you, Rainbow, and this means so much to me. Thank you.” Rainbow Dash, now holding her somepony even closer now, assured him, “Everything will be ok. Really. Everything will be just fine. I love you too, and I’m here for you. We’ll get through this together.”

Chapter XV

The rest of the week came and went. Overdrive would wake up every morning, his mind still plagued with what had transpired the days before. He’d get ready for the day, open the doors, and Pinkie Pie would come around, with typical baked goods, courtesy of Sugarcube Corner. It was becoming normal, as well, for Rainbow Dash to spend her days there, after taking care of the weather, just to be with her special somepony.

Regardless of what events transpired in the days preceding, it was clear as day the two were head over hooves in love. It wasn’t out of the ordinary for Rainbow Dash to want to contribute, or actually learn a thing or two from time to time. It also wasn’t out of the ordinary for Pinkie Pie to get in the way of some very special moments for the inseparable couple, usually leading to an annoyed Rainbow Dash, and to her chagrin, a pleasant and laughing Overdrive.

It was something to behold: a picture-perfect relationship, unfolding as each day went on. Overdrive learned to love again, after suffering so much heartache and tragedy in his past. Rainbow Dash started shedding her “iron pony” façade in favor of a side a bit softer, feminine, and overall, happier. It was as if the two knew the whole time they were meant for each other, despite Overdrive’s short tenure in Ponyville, and his courtship with Rainbow Dash even shorter.

Friday evening arrived, and the weekend was set to begin. For Overdrive, it was to be a weekend he would never forget, and for a different reason than what most would think. “Alrighty, Rainbow, we got to get going. The funeral’s on Monday, and it’ll take quite a bit to get there by train.” Confused by this, Rainbow seeked clarification, “Wait, I thought we were driving out there, or even flying out there?” Overdrive, occupied with packing, replied, “I haven’t found any fuel, or had the time to convert the engine to run on something else. And you know that I can’t fly. Our only option is the train right now, and it’s at least a two day train ride back out west.”

Rainbow Dash nodded in acknowledgment. “Alright, I’ll head back home and pack. I shouldn’t be long.” Overdrive, now complete packing his bags, replied, “No worries, Rainbow. We’ve still got a few hours. Take your time.” And with that, Rainbow Dash temporarily bid farewell as she went to pack for the weekend trip. She knew it would be hard for him, knowing all too well what his father meant to him, but at the same time, she was eager to travel out west, to see what life was like there, and how Overdrive grew up. She wanted to understand better what happened in his past, to better help him heal for the future.

The train ride out west was, in fact, lengthy, due to the train stopping at every station. But, past the Everfree Forest, past the Ghastly Gorge, through the San Palomino Desert, and past Applewood. With each passing minute, Overdrive and Rainbow Dash grew closer and closer together, despite the heartache plaguing Overdrive over his father’s passing. They were alone, with each other’s thoughts, dreams, and in general, with each other. They both knew the weekend was going to be rough. Overdrive knew he had to be strong, despite how many old wounds were to be opened. He knew he had to stay strong, for he didn’t want to scare or offend Rainbow Dash in any way.

Yet at the same time, Rainbow Dash knew she had to be there for him. She didn’t know what to expect, and was prepared for just about anything that would happen. She decided that no matter what happened, she would always be by his side, now beginning to feel his pain as they grew closer to each other. It was only a matter of time before Rainbow Dash would learn more about her special somepony.

Chapter XVI

It was early in the morning on Sunday when the train pulled into San Burrito. The Conductor’s dialogue, “San Burrito, end of the line folks,” awoke the two from their deep sleep. “Well, I thought I’d never be back here again,” Overdrive said to his special somepony, as they disembarked the train, onto the platform. “This brings back some memories…”

Rainbow Dash, surprised in the difference between Ponyville and San Burrito, commented, “Well, this is definitely different. I’ll say that much.” The train station was situated in one of the more crime-filled parts of town. It’s the only space years ago that the city would allow a train station to be built. It was clearly evident they were in the middle of gang territory. “Come on, Rainbow. It’s best that we not stick around here,” Overdrive urged, as he walked towards his old neighborhood.

When they turned the corner, onto what used to be his old street, Overdrive was taken aback by what he saw: the entire block, leveled, with banners and sign proclaiming a new shopping mall was to be built there. Overdrive thought to himself, ‘Well, so much for showing Rainbow my old stomping grounds.’ “It’s better this way,” he then spoke. “It rids me of some of the bad memories I had growing up. It lets me move on.” Rainbow, surprised by hearing this, replied, “I wasn’t expecting that response, but then again, it is probably for the best. C’mon, we better get to our hotel.

As they walked away from the neighborhood, towards the safer, more developed part of town, Overdrive took in all of the changes now gone from his childhood. The school he used to attend, now modernized, and more sophisticated in appearance. The little corner store, replaced by a parking lot. The park, the one he went to after school every day, had been cleaned up, and given new life. He was in disbelief, seeing how much either remained intact, or evolved away from the violence the city was known for.

Their hotel was modest, at best. Nothing too extravagant, or extraordinary, but just your typical hotel, nestled in a newly develop neighborhood not too far from the city center. It looked as if it belong where it had been built, amid the low rising skyscrapers, the coffee shops and restaurants lined the streets, each full of happy and pleasant ponies, ready to head on about their business. It was the first time Overdrive had seen such a site in the city. “Wow, it’s changed so much,” he remarked. “I never thought the city could actually be straightened up.”

At this point, Rainbow Dash was a bit more interested in finding a bite to eat than listening to Overdrive’s ramblings. She acknowledged him, “Well, by the stories you’ve told me, this doesn’t sound like the place you grew up in at all. Hey, can we get some food? I’m hungry.” Overdrive agreed, and decided to find a place for breakfast.

After breakfast, the two decided to check into their hotel, and relax a bit before doing more site seeing. They unpacked, and after getting settled in, they decided to sit out on the balcony, and take in the view. The hotel was only a few blocks away from the shore, and their room was on a floor high enough to see out pas the other buildings, revealing a bright, majestic blue ocean and a sunny beach waiting in the distance. “Hey Overdrive,” Rainbow Dash prepositioned, “What’s say we go to the pier for a bit, have a little fun. I bet the water feels nice on a day like this.” Overdrive thought about it momentarily, “Alright, let’s go. I could use some R&R before tomorrow. It’ll get my mind in a better place. I haven’t been to the beach in years.”

Chapter XVII

By the time Overdrive and Rainbow Dash decided to leave their hotel, and venture down to the beach, the sun had just begun to set, leaving behind a majestic and colorful sky as it slipped beyond the horizon. The pier stood out from the evening sky, bright and illuminated with neon lights and the sounds of ponies enjoying themselves. The pier itself was aged, but aged in a nostalgic manner, where classic game booth populated the midway, a wooden roller coaster ran along the edge, and the end gave way to a priceless view, straight out into the deep blue yonder.

The two lovebirds just took it all in, before spotting a photo booth that had looked as if it came straight out of the 1920’s. It called to them, signaling the beginning of a night they would never forget. The photo booth documented their romance, their good times, and their life together. At first, the pictures were innocent, with tongues sticking out, bunny ears, and silly faces. Before long, a quick kiss would get sneaked in, and soon after, they grew longer and more meaningful than just a quick peck. They laughed after it all, and as they exited the booth, grabbed their pictures, and continued on with the evening.

It was almost as if the ecstasy of the evening removed any pain, any negative emotion, from their being. It was as if they regained their innocence, and had no care in the world than to spend time with each other and have a good time. Rides were ridden, games were played (a giant teddy bear was won), and they just took it all in. Rainbow Dash decided to sit down for a minute to catch her breath, and relax for a bit. Overdrive walked off for a moment, returning with ice cream cones for the two to enjoy on the beautiful evening they were experiencing. Rainbow Dash, mid lick, said, “There isn’t anything like this back in Ponyville. The view is breathtaking, the pier and beach is just something else, and I can say this is probably the most enjoyable time I’ve ever had.”

Overdrive sat there and smiled, enjoying his ice cream. He responded, “There is one thing Ponyville has that they don’t have here. Only Ponyville has you, Rainbow Dash.” She began blushing, and the two hugged each other, watching the sun take its last bow as it drifted off, beyond the horizon.

The clear sky revealed a mosaic of stars, set on the deep blue background. The two decided to take a stroll along the beach once the pier lost its appeal. Campfires dotted the beach, and the two decided to sit down at one, away from any other ponies. There, they talked, they laughed, they cried, they sang songs, and they sat in silence, taking the night in, and enjoying each other’s company as the night progressed.

At one point, they both sat still, gazing into each other’s eyes. Overdrive leaned over, and kissed Rainbow Dash on the cheek, whispering, “Thank you Rainbow. Thank you for everything.” Puzzled, she brushed it off, but inquired, “What do you mean by ‘everything?’” He replied, “For coming here with me. For being there for me, and most importantly, for being the one pony I want to be there for. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for you, Rainbow. I love you that much.” Rainbow felt the same way. “I should be thanking you. You truly taught me to be myself, and you got me to love. I’d do anything for you too. I love you too.” The fireworks began to fly. They grabbed each other, locked in a tight hug, passionately kissing as if they never had before.

It was quite a while before they released their grips. Once they did, they fell back, laughing like young fillies, taking in everything. “Just look at that sky,” Overdrive said. “It is absolutely beautiful,” Rainbow Dash replied. “But not as beautiful as you,” Overdrive whispered.

The two decided it was time to head back to the hotel. While walking back, they walked close to each other, hoof-in-hoof. It was magical, and it was something they would never forget. The funeral the next day was nowhere to be found in their consciences. Only their love for each other remained, as the night drew to a close.

Chapter XVIII

The morning came, breathing a pleasant mood into a day filled with emotion, but for a different reason the night before. As the light began caressing the balcony, shining into their room, Overdrive and Rainbow Dash awoke slowly, wrapped around one another, still dreaming about the night before. Monday was upon them, and they knew what was to transpire that afternoon.

The funeral was scheduled for one o’clock in the afternoon, and the church was only a few blocks from where they were staying. After the funeral, they decided to take the overnight train back to Ponyville. Otherwise, Overdrive and Rainbow Dash didn’t know what to expect. They had no idea how many other ponies, friends and family members would be attending, as well as how they would react to Overdrive’s attendance.

Their morning went by quick. Breakfast was first, provided by the hotel, in the lobby. “I bet Rarity would enjoy this,” Overdrive remarked, with Rainbow Dash replying, “I wouldn’t doubt it,” soon after. Once finished with breakfast, they decided to depart, and do a little site seeing, grabbing a few souvenirs along the way.

It was roughly noon when they returned to the hotel, and began getting ready for the funeral. Rainbow Dash bathed, Overdrive shaved, and they both cleaned up, ready to lay his father to rest.

The bells rang in the background as the two approached the church. As they walked up, Overdrive noticed the ponies lined up to enter as well; most of which he had never seen before. There were a few he recognized, but doubted they would recognize him; it had been years since he’d seen them. Overdrive and Rainbow Dash decided to find their seats, reserved near the front. He figured if no one picked up on the fact it was him by then, it wasn’t a big deal.

They took their seats, around the same time most of the other ponies in attendance settled in as well. The ceremony began, and the sermon soon began from the preacher pony. After the sermon concluded, and prayers were recited, the preacher asked, “Would anypony like to step forward and say a few words?” Overdrive, at this time, stood up, and responded, “I would like to say a few words, if I may?” The preacher acknowledged this, and Overdrive stepped up to the podium.

“Friends, family, loved ones. Today, we celebrate the life of *************. A great stallion, a dedicated husband, and a caring father. I should know, I am his own flesh and blood.” Overdrive began to tear up after hearing his own words, but continued, “He lived a great life, establishing himself in the community, and always willing to lend a hoof whenever it was needed.” He took a moment to regain his composure before continuing, “His untimely passing is very saddening, yet we must remember all the joy, all the positives he brought into our lives, as he will not, nor ever will be, forgotten.”

He began reciting a bible verse, “According to the book of the Corinthians, ‘Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.’ May God bless you all.” With that, he returned to his seat, where Rainbow Dash sat, beginning to weep. “That was beautiful,” she whispered. Overdrive replied by hugging Rainbow Dash, as she did the same.

The rest of the service progressed along, until his father was laid to rest in the ground. The preacher said his last words, and every pony paid their last respects. Once the procession dispersed, Overdrive sat there for a minute, praying, weeping in the process. Rainbow Dash sat next to him, comforting him. A while on, a certain pink pony popped up, and joined them. Overdrive glanced over briefly, thought nothing of it, and continued to pray. A second later, he snapped his head again, and surprised, inquired, “Pinkie Pie, what are you doing here?”

Pinkie Pie, as eager as usual, responded, “I was hired to cater the wake. I didn’t see you there… Hi Rainbow Dash- Wait, what are you doing here?” It was clear the two didn’t know how to respond to this, and looked at each other nervously, trying to figure out how to respond.

Chapter XIX

Overdrive and Rainbow Dash didn’t know what to think at this point: it was clear Pinkie Pie knew something was up, and it looked as if there was only one way out of it. “Pinkie Pie,” Rainbow Dash began, which Overdrive then finished, “We need to tell you something important.” At that point, the two spoke in unison, “We’re in love, Pinkie Pie. We’re dating.” Overdrive then continued solo, “That’s why Rainbow’s here with me, Pinkie Pie.” They had a feeling what was going to happen next.

Pinkie Pie, shocked by the news, questioned, “Rainbow Dash, THEE Rainbow Dash, in love?! With the new pony in town?!” It was then that Pinkie fainted, due to a combination of the news and the large amount of sugar she inhaled at the wake. “Well, so much for making the train,” Rainbow Dash uttered. “Come on, Rainbow, we can’t leave her here,” Overdrive replied. “We’ll just have to carry her to the train station.”

Pony-handling a limp body across town wasn’t the easiest thing to do, nor the most conspicuous. At one point, they even tried the “Weekend at Bernie’s” approach, and struggled throughout, but eventually they got to the train station, albeit with quite a few looks in the process.

They arrived on time, with an unconscious Pinkie Pie in tow. The train arrived soon after, and they boarding it took some time; navigating a pony’s limp body through the tight spaces of a train isn’t easy. Once settled in, the two began to converse. “What are we going to do,” Overdrive asked his special somepony. She then replied, “It was going to get out at some point, if it hasn’t already.” Overdrive agreed, commenting, “You’re right. Might as well quit hiding it then.”

At that moment, Pinkie Pie stirred awake. “What happened,” she asked. Rainbow Dash, laughing in amusement, answered, “You passed out, Pinkie. We carried you to the train, so we could get back to Ponyville.” Pinkie, curious, then asked, “Ok, but did I hear you two correctly earlier?” Overdrive and Rainbow Dash, sat there, and grinned ear to ear, blushing a deep red. Thrilled by the news, Pinkie then declared, “You know what that means. This calls for a party!!!” The special someponies laughed, and Pinkie Pie soon joined in. “Oh, Pinkie Pie,” Overdrive remarked, “You never cease to amaze anypony,” to which Rainbow Dash added, “Pinkie Pie, you are so random.” They all just sat there, and the couple sat there and answered Pinkie’s barrage of questions as the night grew on, and as they drifted asleep, with the train growing closer to Ponyville with each passing minute.

Chapter XX

The train pulled into Ponyville early the next morning, and again the sun awoke the trio of travelers, slowly forcing their eyes open. Overdrive was the first to awake, and noticed Rainbow Dash fell asleep on his lap the night before, still in the same position. He smiled happily, and just looked at her, taking note of how peaceful and beautiful she looked. The conductor called, “You may now depart the train.” With that, Overdrive nudged Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie. Pinkie Pie sprung awake, peppy and energetic as ever. Rainbow Dash took her time, but awoke in her special somepony’s hooves. She smiled, and Overdrive acknowledged with, “Good morning sunshine. Did you sleep well?” Rainbow Dash smiled again, nodded, and then yawned.

The three left the train station on that early Tuesday morning, with Pinkie Pie headed back to Sugarcube Corner. Rainbow Dash and Overdrive walked back to the garage, taking their time, with nowhere to be. They were still tired from the overnight train ride, as well as Pinkie’s questioning. As they walked in, they both set their bags down and decided to go lay down on Overdrive’s bed and relax. They talked about the weekend, the events that transpired, and what was next for them. They were so tired that they began giggling like fillies at just about anything the other one said.

Overdrive and Rainbow Dash couldn’t help themselves, with how exhausted they were. They decided to lay down for a bit, and take a nap. They fell asleep side-by-side, holding each other tightly. A little bit of time went by, around an hour or so, before… *knock, knock, knock* The sound at the door slowly stirred the two from their sleep. Apparently Pinkie Pie let the proverbial cat out of the bag to the rest of the Mane Six, and as a result, they had to see it for their very own eyes. At first, they checked the Cloudominium, and after figured Ground Up would be the only other place they would be.

Fluttershy, Twilight, Rarity and Applejack were shocked, seeing not only Rainbow Dash, the rough and tough, tomboy-esque pony deep in love, but with the new pony in town, the pony no one knew much about. “My word Pinkie,” Rarity exclaimed, “You weren’t kidding when you said they were in love.” With this statement, Rainbow Dash shot awake, replying, “So what? I’m in love. I’ve found my special somepony. What, does that make me a softie, an egghead?!”

Overdrive awoke hearing this, simply adding, “Just calm down, Rainbow. Take it easy.” He sat there for a second, and then said, “Now, is there a problem here, girls?” Applejack was next to respond, “No, no problem at all. I just can’t reckon that Rainbow would find a special somepony, much less you, no offense.” Overdrive replied, “None taken.

It was then the barrage of questions began again. Twilight was the first to ask, “How did this all come about?” Rainbow Dash, now calmed down enough, answered, “Remember when Rarity asked me to bring her sewing machine over to get fixed? Well, I was curious about what exactly he was doing, as well as him in general, so I stuck around and did a little snooping, even pitched in to fix it.” Overdrive then added, “Since that day, she spent more and more time around here, helping me out, or just learning. There were a few times we met at the market, for different things.” They began to talk in unison, answering the final part, “We painted the shop one day, and we walked back to the Cloudominium later that night. One thing led to another, and before long we kissed beneath the stars.”

Fluttershy was a bit curious, and asked, “Well, how did you know that it was true love?” Overdrive answered, “We both laid awake that night, perched on cloud nine, figuratively, and wondered what happened right then was real. We caught up the next morning, at the market again, ironically, and met back here after.” Rainbow elaborated, “He and I talked for a bit about it, and we each learned after we parted ways the night before, and we thought the exact same thing. As we talked that day, we both teared up, and just hugged each other.” Overdrive then added, “That was when we knew we were made for each other.”

Rarity, puzzled, noticed, “Rainbow Dash, we’ve never seen this side of you before.” Taken back by this comment, Rainbow Dash replied, “There’s just something about him, about my sweetheart that makes me feel and act this way. I kinda like it.” The only pony still surprised was Applejack. Her question was somewhat obvious. “Well. When were you gonna tell us about this?” Overdrive, a bit embarrassed, sheepishly replied, “Well, we weren’t at first. We didn’t want the drama or shock to cause any ‘outside interference’ *nudges Pinkie Pie*, but since SOMEPONY decided to spoil it, it’s out now.” Overdrive and Rainbow Dash then stared at Pinkie Pie, giving her the evil eye. “What,” Pinkie Pie innocently asked, “I was happy for you two, and wanted everyone to know.” Overdrive and Rainbow Dash then spoke in unison, “Pinkie Pie, next time, please don’t say anything.” She responded, “I Pinkie Promise. Cross my heart, hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye.” Every pony just began laughing, even the two lovebirds. Everyone then uttered, “Oh, Pinkie Pie.” With that, the celebrations began, for the two special someponies, deeply in love.

Chapter XXI

Time had grew kinder and kinder to the inseparable couple. Rainbow Dash took care of the weather early every morning, then after scrambled down to the garage to spend the day with Overdrive, as he worked tediously day in and day out. He enjoyed her company, being business was never steady. A lot of downtime was spent just sitting with each other, casually talking, and reminiscing about the day prior, with its little nuances and events, most of which involved some heartwarming moment between the two.

One such example was on a crisp fall day. Overdrive closed his shop early, and decided to treat Rainbow Dash to a picnic lunch at the park. He closed up, packed the basket full of homemade food, and grabbed his guitar. Rainbow Dash got a late start that day, and was barely out of bed by the time Overdrive knocked on her front door. Still groggy, she answered the door. “Well, good morning sunshine,” Overdrive said, “and how are we this fine day?” At hearing this, Rainbow Dash immediately woke up, and ran over to hug her special somepony. “I missed you,” she said. Overdrive replied, I missed you too,” as he pecked her cheek with a quick kiss.

With that, they departed the Cloudominium, and walked together, side by side, to the park. Once there, Overdrive found a perfect spot right under a willow tree, close to the pond. He set the blanket down, weighing down each corner with rocks. “Hope you’re hungry,” he said to Rainbow Dash. She sat there, staring at the pond, but nodded when she heard Overdrive speak. The sun was hitting the water just right, to where a rainbow cascaded out and into the distance. Overdrive picked up on it, and noted, “Beautiful, isn’t it?” She spoke, “It sure is.” Overdrive then responded, “But there’s nothing more beautiful than you, Dashie.” He walked over, sat down next to her, and kissed her on the cheek, then put his foreleg around her shoulder.

Rainbow Dash looked at him for a second, then gently laid her head on his shoulder. “I love you,” she told Overdrive. He responded, “I love you too.” After that, he walked over to where the picnic basket was, and grabbed his guitar. He walked back over, sat down, and began strumming. At first, it was simple chords, in no particular rhythm. It changed, as he strung the chords together, creating a unique, yet pleasing progression to listen to. Once he figured out the chords, he put them into a calm, yet upbeat rhythm. Rainbow Dash, and she found the song not only pleasing, but awe inspiring, and the most beautiful music she had ever heard. When Overdrive had finished, she asked, “That was beautiful. Is that on one of your records?” Overdrive admitted, “No, it wasn’t. I wrote it. I wrote it for you, Dashie.”

She broke down, and began crying. “Thank you. It was beautiful.” Overdrive set his guitar down, came over, and hugged her. “I love you, Rainbow Dash,” Overdrive said. “I would do anything for you, I really would. Please don’t ever forget that.” With that, they both sat peacefully, hugging one another, for what seemed like an eternity. They didn’t want to move, and enjoyed every second of it. Nothing could separate them.

Chapter XXII

In San Burrito, there was a pony lurking in the shadows, near where Overdrive’s house used to stand. “I know he was here not too long ago.” This pony had an agenda to uphold, collecting what he claimed was rightfully his. “His father owed this pony a debt, and the pony tried to collect, but instead cost Overdrive’s father his life. This pony was responsible for taking his father’s life away, after a burglary went awry. “I’ll find him. He can’t be far…”

Meanwhile, back in Ponyville, it was business as usual for Overdrive, working away on an unusually busy Friday. Ever since Rainbow Dash became his protégé, so to speak, it wasn’t as difficult as usual to handle business. She enjoyed learning, and she enjoyed her time with her sweetheart. It was as if their love made Rainbow Dash want to learn more about her special somepony, and be more active in his pursuits. Another added facet of her ever-changing personality that she didn’t mind, for she knew their love meant more to her than anything.

Around the lunch hour, Applejack walked into the shop. “Hey AJ,” Rainbow Dash said. “What’s up?” Applejack gladly responded, “Hey there Rainbow Dash. Is Overdrive around?” Rainbow Dash answered, “Yeah, he’s in the back. I’ll go get him.” She walked towards the back of the shop, and came back out with Overdrive. “Oh, hi Applejack. What can I do for you?” Applejack noted, “Well, you two looks as happy as silkworms on rose bushes. Anyway, Granny Smith wanted to meet you, Overdrive, so she wanted to know if you two would like to join us for supper. Would ya be interested?”

Overdrive thought about it for a minute, then replied, “Sure. We’ll be over after I close up. Sound good?” Rainbow Dash added, “Yeah, we’ll come. Do you have any cider, AJ?” Applejack acknowledged them, “Well alright. I’ll see you two later. And yes, Rainbow Dash, there’s cider ready for you.” Applejack walked out the door and back towards Sweet Apple Acres. “Well, back to work, Dashie. Only a few hours left in the day.”

Chapter XXIII

That evening, Overdrive and Rainbow Dash ventured down to Sweet Apple Acres, making good on their engagement to Applejack for dinner. Before heading to Sweet Apple Acres, they stopped at Sugarcube Corner to grab a small cake in gratitude of Applejack’s dinner offer. The walk from town to Sweet Apple Acres was lengthy, yet short at the same time. Regardless, Overdrive and Rainbow Dash chatted the whole time, laughing at times from little jokes and nuances that appeared from time to time.

Soon enough, they arrived at the gates of Sweet Apple Acres, where Applejack stood, ready to great the couple. “Glad ya made it,” she said, to which Overdrive responded, “Thanks for having us, AJ.” While walking to the house, Applejack gave a brief tour of the farm. Overdrive as interested in Applejack’s information. Rainbow Dash, wasn’t as interested, evident by the fact she kept staring at the equipment used to make her favorite beverage, apple cider. “Rainbow Dash,” Applejack uttered, “If you don’t mind, your groans are beginning to distract.” She realized what she was doing, quickly corrected herself, and then replied, “Sorry. I haven’t had cider in so long. Mmm, just so good. Goes down so smoothly…”

Overdrive chuckled and Applejack rolled her eyes at this, following with, “Well, I reckon dinner’s just about ready. What’s say we head to the house and get washed up?” Overdrive replied, “Sounds like a plan.” He then jokingly said, “It’ll mean Rainbow Dash gets her cider sooner anyway.” From hearing this, she immediately snapped out of her trance, and flew to the washroom at the drop of a hat. In the process, she exclaimed, “Cider?! I need my cider!!!” Applejack and Overdrive laughed about it, then proceeded themselves to wash up for dinner.

The table was lined with the most appetizing of homemade dishes: pasta, fish, salads, hoagies, deserts, and whatever else could have been thought of, was there, all hand prepared. Overdrive first seated Rainbow Dash, then himself next to her. Applejack and Apple Bloom sat across from them, on the other side of the table. Granny Smith and Big Mac each sat on the ends. Applejack led the table in grace, and then they began to chow down. Applejack was the first to talk, “Remind me again, where are you from?” Overdrive, after swallowing his mouthful, replied, “I’m from out west. A city by the name of San Burrito, just outside of Applewood.” With that, he took another bite of his food, and soon after, another questioned, this time from Granny Smith. “What brings you to Ponyville, youngen?” Mid chew, he tried to speak, but his mouth was full, so Overdrive swallowed, then replied, “I needed a change of scenery. There was just a lot going on back there, so I left and came here.”

Rainbow Dash decided to have a little fun, so she stuck her fork, with food on it, in his mouth. Overdrive was surprised by this, but took it in gest, and continued on with the meal. Apple Bloom had a puzzled look on her face, and decided to deal with the proverbial elephant in the room. “Hey Applejack, why’s Rainbow Dash here with Overdrive?” At hearing this, Applejack did a spit take, landing all over Big Mac. “Oops, sorry ‘bout that Big Mac. I better let these two answer that question,” she replied, while helping Big Mac get cleaned off.

Overdrive gestured to Rainbow Dash, mainly because his mouth was full, and hers wasn’t. Rainbow Dash answered, “Honestly, Apple Bloom?” Apple Bloom nodded, which Rainbow Dash replied, “We’re dating. We’re in love.” Another spit take occurred, this time coming out of Big Mac’s mouth, onto Applejack. “I guess I had that coming,” she said, wiping herself off. Overdrive, now finished with his mouthful, added, “I couldn’t imagine spending my life without Dashie. It’s only been a few weeks now, but it feels like we’ve known each other our entire lives.” With that, he leaned over and pecked a quick kiss on Rainbow Dash’s cheek.

“Dinner was delicious, by the way,” Overdrive added. “We appreciate you having us, RIGHT RAINBOW?!” He drew attention to Rainbow Dash because she was zoned out, thinking about the apple cider. Overdrive thought up a quick idea, grabbing a cupcake, and proceeding to “miss” Rainbow Dash’s mouth. “Hey! What was that for,” she asked. “Remember the fork thing? You’re welcome,” Overdrive replied, smiling from his actions. Rainbow Dash just laughed at it, remembering what she had done earlier, and soon the whole table was bursting with laughter.

“Big Mac, can you go fetch the cider,” Granny Smith requested. “Eeyup,” he replied, leaving the room momentarily, returning with a barrel of cider. Applejack joked, “I hope you’re thirsty, Rainbow Dash.” Rainbow Dash’s eyes grew bigger than saucers, and her tongue now hung loose from her mouth. “Easy there, sport,” Overdrive told her, “It’s just cider.” Big Mac uncorked the barrel, and Rainbow Dash scrambled over to it. She was the first to fill her glass, and one sip lead to pure euphoria. “Thank Celestia it’s cider season,” she exclaimed. Overdrive facehoofed for a minute, only for it to cover up his smirk and chuckling. “That’s my girl,” he said, “That’s my girl…”

Once Rainbow Dash had her fill of the cider (roughly a gallon or so), she and Overdrive decided it was about time they departed, as dusk grew upon them. They thanked the Apples for their gratuity and generosity, and began the walk back into town. Once they reached Overdrive’s garage, they both walked in. Rainbow Dash, who had clearly ingested too much cider, laid down on the bed and fell asleep. Overdrive went to the washroom to get a quick shower. When he came back, he noticed the innocent-looking Rainbow Dash, sprawled out on his bed as comfortable as could be. ‘I couldn’t imagine anypony else like this right now,’ he thought, ‘She’s just perfect.’ He tucked Rainbow Dash in, gave her a kiss on her forehead, then turned the light out.

Chapter XXIV

Weeks went by, and each day was fairly normal. One thing did begin to change, however. Business began to grower slower and fewer ponies came in each day. Overdrive questioned whether he should change his practices to make more money, but realized no matter what he would do, the business, unfortunately, could not be saved.

He was clearly stressed out about the situation, and decided to walk to market one day on his lunch break. Rainbow Dash decided to stay home and have a peaceful day to herself, so he was on his own today. He walked around the market, not looking for anything in particular, when he stumbled across some old radio broadcast equipment. “Pardon me,” he prepositioned the salespony, “but how much for the radio equipment?” The salespony spun around and replied, “10 bits.” Overdrive handed the salespony the bits, and carried the equipment back to his garage. He cleared a back corner, hooked it up, and turned it on.

The outdated equipment whirred to life, and he noticed a frequency printed on the microphone. “98.5,” he said. “Hmm, maybe this will help me out financially.” He grabbed one of his records, set it on the turntable, and put the needle on. He then went into the office, turned the radio on, and tuned into the frequency. The music was playing through the radio. “Ok, this is going to be sweet.”

He walked back over to the console, sat down, turned on the mic, and spoke, “Good afternoon, Ponyville. My name is Overdrive, and welcome to your new Classic Hits station, 98.5 WPNY.” He felt something. He felt like he could be the voice of the entire town. It felt good, but it wasn’t his intention, so instead, he grabbed another record, and played it. He first introduced it, “Alright everypony, here is a song guaranteed to get you up and dancing. Here is ‘Hoofloose.’” Once he put the song on, and set the autoplay function, he stepped outside, and took a quick walk around Ponyville. He could hear the sounds of his radio station playing in houses and businesses everywhere in town, and it brought a smile to his face. He knew he had something special on his hooves.

Chapter XXV

In San Burrito, the pony in the shadows was still lurking around. He wanted to figure out where Overdrive was as soon as possible. “He can’t be far from here,” the pony said to himself. He began walking back to his home, several blocks from where he was currently located.

Once back at his home, he walked through the front door, took off his jacket, and sat down at his desk. One of his associates walked in, “Boss, you ain’t gonna believe this,” he said. “What is it,” the other said. His associate replied, “I found that stallion you’re looking for.” Shocked, the pony sitting at the desk asked, “Where is he?” His associate turned the radio on, and found the 98.5 frequency. The radio spoke, “98.5 WPNY, Ponyville’s Classic Hits station. Overdrive here, and…” as the radio was turned off. “See what I mean, boss,” the associate spoke. “Yes, I do see. Now, I shall get my revenge. No one double crosses Silver Shadow!!! No one!!! Tell the boys, we leave at sunset for Ponyville. He shall be mine!!!”

Back in Ponyville, Overdrive was getting ready to do another set on radio, when Rainbow Dash walked in. “Good afternoon, sweetie,” she said to Overdrive. “Watcha doin’ there?” Overdrive spun around, joyed to see his special somepony. “Oh this,” he responded, “Just some old radio equipment I picked up at the market the other day. Business isn’t doing so well, so I figured it would be a fun side venture.” Rainbow Dash looked at it for a minute, then responded, “That… IS SO SWEET!!! What kind of radio station we’re you thinking?” He responded by pushing a button on the control board that played a prerecorded introduction, “On 98.5 WPNY, Ponyville’s Classic Hits home.” He then responded, “How about that?”

Rainbow Dash, now grinning from ear to ear, responded, “THAT IS AWESOME!!! Literally 20% cooler than anything I would have thought of. But, how are you going to drum up publicity?” He pressed another button on the control board, playing a rim shot. He thought for a minute, then answered, “Well, I do a bit of advertising for a few of the various businesses around town. In doing so, it brings in a little money, as well as allowing me to hang flyers about the station around town.” Rainbow Dash nodded, understand his plan. She then reached over and hugged him. “I missed you, you know,” she told Overdrive. “I missed you too, Dashie,” he replied, as he hugged her back. “You want to stick around and here a set,” he asked Rainbow Dash. “Sure, why not,” she replied, “it’s not like I have anything better to do today.” She then went to sit down nearby, as Overdrive slipped the headset on, gave himself the countdown, and went on the air.

“GOOOOOD afternoon, Ponyville. It’s your pal Overdrive here, ready to get the music flowing through you here, on your home for Classic Hits, 98.5 WPNY. But first, the news and a check of the weather,” he began. “Today marks the first official day of harvest season. Tomatoes, peppers, corn, and any remaining fruit should be ready to be picked. It also marks that we are one week away from the annual Harvest Festival, which I know everypony here in Ponyville enjoys year in and year out. Corn mazes, scarecrow contests, pumpkin carving contests, and so much more, especially that sweet apple cider from Sweet Apple Acres, all ready for each and every one of you to enjoy.”

Overdrive shuffled his papers, then continued, “Your Ponyville weather calls for partly cloudy skies today, with temperatures in the mid 60’s and low humidity. So if you get a chance, go outside and enjoy the day. Now for the music. Folks, I’m going to start you off with a mini-marathon of 80’s rock today, featuring AC/DC, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Foreigner, and many more. Here’s AC/DC’s 'It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Want to Rock and Roll),' on your Classic Hits home, 98.5 WPNY.”

Chapter XXVI

As he set the headset on the desk, Rainbow Dash spoke, “Wow, you’re almost like a natural radio DJ. It was really good.” Overdrive responded, “You really think so?” “Uh, yeah. The only other person I can think of that holds a candle to you, is Vinyl Scratch, when she’s in her whole ‘DJ Pon-3’ mode. Seriously, you should keep at it.” Appreciative, he replied, “Thanks Dashie, that means a lot to me.” He then went over and plucked a quick kiss on her cheek before he slid back onto the radio controls.

“And welcome back to your Classic Hits home, 98.5, WPNY. It’s Overdrive here, and I hope everypony enjoyed that nice mini-marathon I had for you. Now folks, before I go onto the next segment, I do have something I need to say. Now I bet most of you are aware that I have been dating Rainbow Dash for a little while now, and that we are both deeply in love. Well, she’s sitting here in the studio with me, and I’d like to take a minute to ask her a question,” he said, switching from headset to studio microphone.

Rainbow Dash was puzzled; she had no idea what the question was, until she saw Overdrive’s hoof. In it was a small box, and she knew exactly what that meant. “Rainbow, I want to spend the rest of my life you. I love you unlike any other pony I have met. You make me so happy,” Overdrive said. He then bent down, looked straight into Rainbow Dash’s eyes, and the next phrase literally brought Rainbow Dash to tears: “Will you make me the happiest stallion in all of Equestria, take my hoof, and marry me?” She cried the happiest she has ever cried, joyfully responding, “Yes. Yes… Just Yes. Oh my god, I love you so much.”

The radio equipment automatically cut to commercial, and let them have their moment. They both sat there, hugging and crying their eyes out, in absolute happiness and joy. They were both in entire disbelief. “Rainbow, you have just made me THEE happiest stallion in all of Equestria. Thank you.” Rainbow Dash, sobbing, replied, “No, thank you for making me the happiest mare in all of Equestria.” Overdrive composed himself, then went back to the radio equipment. Rainbow Dash was still sitting there, bawling her eyes out at the news she had just received.

Overdrive switched back to his headset, and spoke, “Welcome back to 98.5, WPNY. Folks, I appreciate all of you letting me share that special moment with my fiancé, I really do. Just for that, here’s Journey, on your home for Classic Hits.”

Chapter XXVII

Once Overdrive finished his set, they began planning the wedding.

First was a trip to Sweet Apple Acres. They agreed the farm was the location they wanted for it. As they walked up to the house, Applejack was sitting on the front porch, coring apples. “Well, if it ain’t the cutest couple in all of Ponyville. What can I do for you…? Wait, is that what I think it is, Rainbow Dash?” Beaming, Rainbow Dash replied, “Yep. He proposed to me last night. Made us the happiest ponies in all of Equestria.” Applejack replied, “Congratulations you two. I’m so happy for you.”

Overdrive spoke, “Thank you, Applejack. It’s actually part of the reason why we’re here today. We’d like to know if we can have the wedding ceremony here. I’ll pay, of course.” Applejack was floored, “A wedding, here? It would be our pleasure to have the weddin’ here. What exactly we’re you thinking?” Overdrive responded, “We were thinking the ceremony itself would be in one of the orchards, among the apple trees, and the reception would be in the barn, if that’s alright.” Applejack replied, “Done and done. I’ll make sure to have it ready. And once again, congratulations.” Rainbow added, “Thanks AJ, we’ll see you soon.”

Once they departed Sweet Apple Acres, it was on to Sugarcube Corner, for the wedding cake. When they walked in, Pinkie Pie jammed cupcakes into their mouths. They chewed, swallowed, and then asked Pinkie Pie, “What flavor was that?” Pinkie eagerly answered, “That’s a new… Wait, you didn’t do what I think you did, did you?” Overdrive answered, “Depends on what you mean by ‘did I do what I thought you did,’ Pinkie Pie.” Pinkie Pie replied, “Did you fight off an army of zombie ponies using nothing more than a kazoo and some spray cheese?” Laughing, Rainbow Dash contributed, “No, Pinkie. Overdrive proposed to me. We’re getting married,” while now hugging her special somepony.

Overdrive asked again, “Now Pinkie, what was that flavor in the cupcakes?” She replied, “I was trying a new flavor. Strawberry with just a hint of mint. What do you think?” Rainbow Dash and Overdrive both agreed, then Overdrive requested, “Pinkie Pie, can you bake that flavor into a wedding cake?” Floored by the news, Pinkie shot into the air, and as she came back down, answered, “You bet I can. I’ll have it ready by your special day. See you two lovebirds then.” The happy couple walked out the door, headed now for the Carousel Boutique.

Once at the Carousel Boutique, they were greeted by Sweetie Belle. “Hi guys,” she responded, “Rarity’s upstairs, but she’s a bit too busy right now. Anything you’d like me to tell her?” Overdrive answered, “Actually, Sweetie Belle, we do have something important to ask her. Is there any way you could get her down here?” “I’m sorry,” Sweetie Belle answered, but I don’t think so.” Rainbow Dash thought for a second, then replied, “I think I have an idea.”

She flew up to the balcony, and began pounding on the window. Rarity soon came out. “What is it, Rainbow Dash? Can’t you possibly see I’m too busy to…?” She then noticed Rainbow Dash’s ring, and soon replied, “Just give me one minute.” Rainbow flew back to her fiancé, and Rarity soon came downstairs to greet the couple. “You didn’t,” Rarity said to Overdrive. He then replied, “You bet I did, that’s why we’re here today.” Rarity, taken back by the news, replied, “Well why didn’t you say so, darling. I’ll get you set up in no time.” Overdrive was fitted for his suit first, which took no time at all. Rainbow Dash was extremely nitpicky about her wedding dress, so Overdrive took off by himself to arrange the rest of the wedding. While he was walking out of the Carousel Boutique, he heard, “OUCH!!! Will you watch where you’re sticking that pin?” “Well, if you would stand still long enough, you wouldn’t be getting poked, now would you Rainbow?”

He laughed to himself, as he walked across town to Fluttershy’s cabin. When he arrived, he knocked on the door, which Fluttershy immediately answered. “Hello, Overdrive. Come on in,” she politely spoke. “Thanks Fluttershy. Hey, can I asked a favor,” Overdrive requested. Fluttershy, puzzled, asked, “Sure, but what is it?” Overdrive answered her, “Well, it’s two things, actually. Is there any way you and the rest of the Ponytones can maybe perform a ‘ceremony’ for Rainbow Dash and myself? And is it possible we could borrow a few doves for said ‘ceremony’ as well?”

Fluttershy was still confused, “What kind of ceremony, if I may ask?” Overdrive answered her question, “Well, part of the reason why I’m here myself today is because Rarity is fitting Rainbow Dash’s wedding dress. I proposed to her, and we’re getting married here soon. That’s why I’m asking for these favors.” Fluttershy became congratulatory, replying, “Of course I can do that for you. You two must be so happy. Congratulations.” Overdrive replied, “Thanks Fluttershy, we really appreciate it.” Overdrive said his farewells, then headed back to the Carousel Boutique to see if Rainbow Dash and Rarity were finished yet.

“Alright, now you’re finished, Rainbow Dash,” Rarity told her, as Rainbow Dash immediately took off the dress. “Thanks Rarity, I couldn’t have done it without you. Oh, hi honey. Is there anything else to take care of?” Overdrive walked back in, and replied, “Just one more thing, which we need to go see Twilight for. Thanks again, Rarity. We really appreciate it.” Rarity replied, “Good luck you two, we’ll see you on your special day.”

With that, they trotted over to the Golden Oaks library, where Twilight Sparkle greeted them. “Hey you two, what’s going on?” Rainbow Dash answered, “Twilight, we need to ask you a favor.” Overdrive then added, “Twilight, we’d like you to officiate our wedding ceremony, and for Spike to be the ring bearer, if that’s alright.” Twilight responded, “With Celestia as my witness, and by the authority given to me as a princess, I shall do my duty. Plus, it’ll be fun. Spike, fetch me my book on wedding officiating, please?” Rainbow Dash then said, “Thanks Twilight, you don’t know what this means to us.” Overdrive added, “We really do appreciate it.” Twilight addressed them as they left, “Good luck you two, and I’ll see you at the wedding.” With that, the plans were set, and the date began growing closer and closer.

Chapter XXVIII

The day had finally arrived. Wedding bells were in the air, and every pony in Ponyville eagerly waited in anticipation for the ceremony to start. The farm was elegantly decorated, courtesy of Rarity. The flowers were displayed beautifully, the doves were prepared, and the Ponytones were in full attendance, ready to initiate the ceremony. The ring bearer (Spike) and flowerpony (Scootaloo) were prepared, dressed for success. Per the insistence of Twilight, Shining Armor stood as Overdrive’s best man, and Rainbow Dash had her bridesmaids (Applejack, Lightning Dust, and Rarity) all at the altar. Big Mac was to give Rainbow Dash away to the groom-to-be, and Twilight stood at the altar, ready to officiate the ceremony.

At that moment, Overdrive walked up the aisle, with all the guests standing, watching as he calmly walked towards the altar. Once positioned next to his best man, he waited for his bride to be escorted down the aisle. Several moments later, the choir and pianist began to play “Here Comes the Bride,” and Rainbow Dash and Big Mac soon followed. As they sauntered down the aisle, the flowerpony and ring bearer soon followed. The guests smiled in awe, seeing how beautiful Rainbow Dash looked in her gown and makeup. As Big Mac approached the altar with Rainbow Dash, Overdrive took her hoof, and slowly grasped it. He looked at her, and remarked, “You look absolutely beautiful,” to which she replied, “Yeah? Well don’t get used to it.” Overdrive smiled, and led her up to the altar.

Twilight began to preach, “Family, friends, guests, dearly beloved, we gather on this glorious fall day to celebrate the glorious union between Overdrive and Rainbow Dash. Through their time together, they have come to realize that their personal dreams, hopes, and goals are more attainable and more meaningful through the combined effort and mutual support provided in love, commitment, and family; and so they have decided to live together as husband and wife.”

As the guests were gestured to be seated, Sweetie Belle approached the podium. “A reading from the book of the Corinthians,” she spoke, “‘Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.  Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.  Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.’ The word of God.” The chorus replied, “Thanks be to God.”

Sweetie Belle left the podium, and Apple Bloom now stood there, ready to read a passage. “A letter from St. Paul to the Ephesians,” she read, “‘Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.  For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.  Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.  Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her  to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,  and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.  In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.  After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church-- for we are members of his body.  "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."  This is a profound mystery--but I am talking about Christ and the church.  However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.’ The word of God.” Again, the chorus replied, “Thanks be to God.”

Twilight then asked the couple, “Do you have your vows?” They both nodded, and Rainbow Dash read hers first. “I, Rainbow Dash, promise to always and forever love Overdrive, for as long as we may live. *Tears up, turns to Overdrive* I promise to stand by your side, through the good times and the bad times. I promise to support you in any way possible, and be there for you no matter what.” She finished, and then Overdrive spoke. “I, Overdrive, promise to always and forever love Rainbow Dash, for as long as we may live. *Turns to Rainbow Dash* I promise to never leave, for any reason. I promise to be there for you every morning you awaken, and at every night you fall asleep. I promise to love you until the end of time, through anything.”

At this point, Twilight began the joint vows. “Do you, Rainbow Dash, take Overdrive to be your lawfully wedded husband, promising to love and cherish, through joy and sorrow, sickness and health, and whatever challenges you may face, for as long as you both shall live?" She answered, “I do.” Twilight then turned to Overdrive. “Do you, Overdrive, take Rainbow Dash to be your wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do you part?" He answered, “I do.”

Spike then was motioned to come forward, with the rings. Twilight then gave Overdrive a ring, and stated, “Repeat after me: ‘I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and faithfulness. As I place it on your hoof, I commit my heart and soul to you. I ask you to wear this ring as a reminder of the vows we have spoken today, our wedding day.’” He echoed, “I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and faithfulness. As I place it on your hoof, I commit my heart and soul to you. I ask you to wear this ring as a reminder of the vows we have spoken today, our wedding day.” Rainbow Dash responded, “I will wear it gladly. Whenever I look at it, I will remember this joyous day and the vows and commitments that we have made."

As the rings were being exchanged, Twilight spoke, “Wedding rings are made precious by our wearing them. Your rings say that even in your uniqueness you have chosen to be bound together. Let these rings also be a sign that love has substance as well as soul, a present as well as a past, and that, despite its occasional sorrows, love is a circle of happiness, wonder, and delight. May these rings remind you always of the vows you have taken here today.”

Twilight then took the second ring, and gave it to Rainbow Dash. “Repeat after me: ‘I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and faithfulness. As I place it on your hoof, I commit my heart and soul to you. I ask you to wear this ring as a reminder of the vows we have spoken today, our wedding day.’” She echoed, “I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and faithfulness. As I place it on your hoof, I commit my heart and soul to you. I ask you to wear this ring as a reminder of the vows we have spoken today, our wedding day.” Overdrive replied, “I will wear it gladly. Whenever I look at it, I will remember this joyous day and the vows and commitments that we have made."

Twilight then spoke again, “Now, does anypony have any objection, any reason at all why these two should not be wed?” A voice rang out from the back, “I do. That stallion owes me!!!” At that moment, Silver Shadow sprang out from the back, and immediately tackled Overdrive to the ground. “What gives,” Overdrive hollered. Now smirking, Silver Shadow responded, “I’m the pony that killed your old man. He didn’t pay up, and now I’m here for you!!!!!”

Chapter XXIX

The wedding party gasped. Overdrive grew angry, throwing Silver Shadow off of him. “What is it you want, then? If it’s money, I don’t have any. If you’re here just to ruin my wedding, you’re going to get it!!!” Overdrive charged his assailant, sending him flying into the trunk of an apple tree. Silver Shadow quickly regained his footing, then proceeded to blast Overdrive with a barrage of kicks to the midsection. Rarity was heard in the background, yelling, “Someone alert the authorities immediately. That ruffian must be stopped!!!” Overdrive continued receiving his abuse, but then blocked, and roundhouse kicked Silver Shadow into the next week.

At this point, Silver Shadow’s cohorts joined in on the brawl. A 3-on-1 fight soon ensued, but was quickly evened out when Big Mac and Shining Armor intervened. Each pony involved absorbed punch after punch, kick after kick, and hit after hit. Big Mac managed to subdue his sparring partner in no time at all, after bucking the attacker directly in the forehead. Knocked unconscious, Big Mac quickly grabbed a rope and hogtied the attacker before he could respond. Shining Armor soon followed suit, by utilizing his magic, and bent an iron bar around the attacker, rendering him unable to move.

Overdrive still battled with Silver Streak. “You don’t know when to quit, do you,” Silver Shadow asked. “Overdrive, now bleeding from the gums, replied, “Look pal, I don’t what my father did to piss you off, but I owe you nothing more than a solid butt-whooping for what you did to him.” Overdrive grabbed Silver Shadow by his neck, and put him in a sleeper hold. Silver Shadow then reversed the hold, and began punching Overdrive in the jaw. “Just give up,” Overdrive said, “I owe you nothing, your cronies are incapacitated, and you’ve already ruined my wedding. E-NOUGH!!!!!” With that, Overdrive bucked Silver Shadow straight into an electric fence, forcing enough current to travel through Silver Shadow’s body to knock him unconscious.

Overdrive dusted himself off, took a look at the scene, and realized how much damage had been caused: the altar, nearly destroyed; the benches, scattered and fragmented every which way; the decorations, ruined. He just stood there for a moment, in complete disbelief, then heard Twilight speak, “The Princess and royal guards are on their way. Is everypony ok?” Overdrive spoke, “It’s looks as if everyone is ok, but the wedding… it’s ruined…” Overdrive then turned to Rainbow Dash. “Rainbow, I had no idea… I’m sorry Rainbow Dash.” Rainbow Dash then led her husband-to-be to the altar. “It’s not ruined. We can still fix this.” As they walked back to the altar, the guests began to return to their places, trying to fix and save anything they could.

As things got back under control, Celestia and the royal guards arrived. “Now, where are the guilty parties,” Celestia asked. The wedding party pointed to the subdued ponies over off to the side. “Guards, take those three into custody. And without disturbing this beautiful ceremony. Now, as for the happy couple, I offer you my blessing.” Overdrive and Rainbow Dash smiled, then turned to each other. Twilight then spoke one last time, “Since no one has any objections to this union, then by the power invested in me, I now pronounce you, husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.” Overdrive and Rainbow Dash grabbed each other, planted a long kiss on each other’s lips, and the crowd cheered as they became one.

Epilogue

The newlyweds celebrated alongside the rest of Ponyville, now as one cohesive unit, bounded by love and now, their official vows. They were the happiest ponies in all of Equestria at that moment, and their glee carried on into the night, where the reception was an absolute hit. The guests, as well as the newlyweds, enjoyed fine dining, a picturesque cake from Sugarcube Corner, and even some fun, courtesy of DJ Pon-3 and a karaoke machine. Even the first dance was something of beauty, as it was requested a certain song be played from the record Overdrive bought Rainbow Dash all that time ago at the market.

Once the reception concluded, the newlyweds returned to the Cloudominium, ready to embark on their honeymoon, as well as the beginning of the rest of their lives together. As their friends waved them off, ready to depart for their honeymoon, one pony was missing but not for long. As they were about to take off, Rainbow Dash’s luggage burst open, and Pinkie Pie popped out. “What did I miss,” she asked. One simple reply from the newlyweds summed it up: “Oh, Pinkie Pie.” And with that (and Pinkie Pie back on the ground) the two departed, ready for their new adventure, once they returned.
