Think we'll ever see a villain in MLP that's an earth pony?

watching one of KP's recent Youtube videos about an earth pony rebellion, I had to wonder- would it be possible for DHX to make a good villain out of an earth pony? Looking back on season 4's finale, we know that earth ponies- like pegasi and Unicorns- have their own magic, but the only villains and antagonists we've seen in MLP Gen 4 are primarily unicorns (Flim & Flam, Trixie, Sunset Shimmer)   Then there were just magic users who weren't ponies at all, but have their magic manifest more like a unicorn might (Discord, Chrysalis, and Tirek).....And then there's....Gilda....-shrug-

So...Earth pony villains. Potential for them? Yay or neigh?

Since you mixed antagonists and villains into one big pot in the examples you left this open for an actual Earth Pony antagonist / rival that we saw earlier  - Suri Polomare

I don't see why not.  :maud:

Maybe a earth pony possessed by a ancient evil spirit or perhaps uses a artifact that grants the user other worldly powers. Plenty of things can be done if a earth pony was a villain.  :maud:

how would an earth pony being granted otherworldly powers be any different than a unicorn using some kind of magic? You don't think an earth pony could make a believable, and actually threatening villain unless they're possessed and using magic that's foreign to them?

Absolutely! Earth pony magic is highly underrated! With their enhanced strength, stamina, and speed; an earth pony would be a formidable opponent indeed! Add in the highly logical, down to earth intelligence many earth ponies have, and you have a prepackaged super-villain ready to go! Case in point: would you really want to fight Maud Pie?

It was just a villain suggestion.  :maud:

Well unless they have some form of super-strength and perhaps extremely cunning/ manipulative i doubt they would make a major villain like Tirek or Discord. Minor villain/antagonist, sure.  :maud:

I actually think she has quite a character. I didn't dislike her so much after that newspaper episode.

I forgot all about DT! D: Hm. I wonder if DHX could pull off a colt or filly earth pony villain for the Mane 6, and still make the villain seem threatening and formidable for the older ponies.

I think a young evil genius would be a great Earth Pony villain. Not just an antagonist, but a full-out villain. They could make machines and use them to try to take over the town, and travel around in their own personal pod like Robotnik/Eggman.

I think when it comes to Earth Pony ability, the season 4 finale used the wrong terminology. I don't think they have magic but what Lord Tirek was doing was taking the life force from the ponies. That's not the same as magic but the term was used because it's easier to be understood.

In regards to an Earth Pony villain, it can be done of course but not in the same way as magic using major villains such as the Changeling Queen or Trixie. Physically, one Earth Pony won't really present much of a threat really. It would have to be a villain of a different sort.

I also personally am amused by the giant Tiara thing. I wonder how they would stop her.

I completely wholeheartedly agree with you there. A recurring villain within a season working from the shadows manipulating events ... Twilight's personal Moriarty ... this would make a perfect addition to the rogues gallery.  :)

I respectfully disagree. In fact I am of the opinion that mastery of earth pony magic is what gives the princesses immortality. I believe Immortality is an earth ponies' hardiness taken to the furthest extreme. Consider the fact that earth ponies in the show have been shown to live longer then the average pony, at least as far as the apple family is concerned. Although earth pony magic isn't as flashy as unicorn or pegesus magic, it's no less real.

However, I think we can both agree that giant Diamond Tiara would be awesome. ^_^

I can see one working as a Dr. Wily-esque villain. Mad scientist who relies more on machines than their own power.

Maybe they can operate some sort of giant walking machine type deal. The warm magic of friendship vs. the cold, unforgiving steel. Best I can come up with, at any rate :please:

Then what is the difference between this magic and an extremely powerful life force that is simply more advanced than what the other ponies possess?

You misunderstand. One's life force is merely an extension of one's magic, and vice versa; they are one and the same. The reason the princesses are immortal and other ponies are not is exactly because their life force is so great.

and I respectfully have to disagree with you. If you alicorns were truly immortal, then they would have absolutely no need to reproduce, pass on genes, and manage the birth rate at sustainable levels for their race (and it was established within the Journal of the Two Sisters that Luna and Celestia were once foals, raised by other alicorns in Canterlot at the time, and that they are simply much longer lived than unicorns, earth ponies, and pegasi (not immortal) So since Celestia and Luna had to have been born out of copulation at some point, then there must be need for alicorns to breed, meaning that they can die and are not immortal. (I think of it like the Gods and goddesses from Ah! My Goddess. They're deities (although Celestia and Luna are not), but while they're longer lived than humans, of course, they can, in fact die, and just don't need to reproduce and spawn offspring as often, due to a treaty with demons that prevent either side from actually killing each other in combat. But they can age and die, naturally, when their elongated life comes to an end at some point.)

But I digress. DT moving onto bigger things than school yard bullying and actually being considered a threat for other ponies would be nice to see, I think.

Depends on interpretation. Does someone view comics and books as canon, and doesn't think that Twilight's Kingdom's dialog was a slip up? I'm of the mind that Earth Pony magic is is indwelt yet elusive - almost Pearl S Buck in nature, but that it is magic all the same. This view is mostly attributed to me answering in the affirmative with the questions I posed.

Curious race these Earth Ponies. Is it symbolism or something specific? These questions are just one of the reasons I love this show.
