It would be a hard call between Trixie's band and the Dazzlings. Personal preference for musical style does go to Trixie. It's close though.

Tricks Up My Sleeve was pretty sweet, but that and the awesome light show aside, I'd probably have docked Trixie's band points for using the same song multiple times. Dazzlings' songs were probably the best overall, though I liked their earlier stuff more than their part of Welcome to the Show. Started enjoying the Rainbooms' stuff more as the movie went on, and Awesome as I Wanna Be reminded me of something by The Dollyrots, one of my guilty pleasure bands .

I would have liked to have heard the other bands involved, honestly. Even if they were bad, I'm curious as to what the DHX crew would have come up for them.

 

Though that's an odd thought. I have a vague memory that in a tweet that Ingram made, that he did several deliberately 'bad' songs. I wonder if he actually did songs for all the contestants, just for his own amusement.

Good or bad, I too am curious. Maybe they'll be added as DVD/Bluray extras? I also get the sense that there may be an extended cut. Wasn't Luna supposed to have a song in this one? The rising action did seem to fly by pretty quickly.

 

As for me, I'm curious what Lyra Heartstrings and Sweetie Drops sounded like, and the same is true of Octavia Melody's group, though I suppose it would probably be more symphonic in nature, whereas Lyra and Bon Bon probably played a sonata of sorts. Based on what I actually heard though, since that's the only basis I have to go on, I'd probably go for the Dazzlings, if only because I prefer their genre to that of the Rainbooms. However, Trixie and the Illusions would be a close second. I didn't care much for their song when I first heard it on the wiki, but don't mind it so much now that I've heard it in the film for some reason.

Octavia. How are a bunch of kids who just decided to put a band together going to win against a professional musician who's playing one of the most beautiful instruments known to mankind? Since their magic didn't activate, it seems they weren't even trying their hardest. You've got some explaining to do, Hasbro.

Derpy obviously got robbed. The judges didn't get the saw at all. Stupid popularity contest....

 

But honestly, the mane 6, with or without Sunset Shimmer, seemed like the most complete band to me, they had the talent, the songwriting, the presentation. Hard to beat that. But we didn't get to hear the other bands nearly as much so it's tough to compare

I would also believe that the Mane 6 would probably still have Trixie calling them out for the unfair magic advantage if they transformed while playing. Celestia and Luna would likely warn them or disqualify them if they did use magic.

But the point of thread is that it's still a contest of battle of the bands based on talent.

The Rainbooms, Trixie and the Illusions, and The Dazzlings were all great, but... Dazzlings.

 

Like I said, everyone else was great too... the Dazzlings were just ( to put it simply ) better.
