This is why the CMC will get their Cutie Marks in Season 5

Time for Season 5 speculation!

Brace for my theory: this season, the CMC will be featured in at least one two-parter, AND will get their Cutie Marks!
Want evidence? I'll give you evidence.

First of all there is a new toyline titled "Wild Rainbow" that heavily features Applebloom, Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle getting strange marks on their legs.
Considering the "Rainbow" theme that permeates the series ever since S4, that could mean the fillies get to join in on the fun.

And speaking of toylines, another one that's coming is called Cutie Mark Magic, which features several ponies getting the Cutie Pox Cutie Marks all over their bodies.
Ever since S3, the toylines have pretty much featured the biggest events of the Season (Crystal Empire set, Princess Twilight set, Rainbow Power set), and I expect these to be no exception.

What more, almost 1 year ago, Hasbro registered two interesting Trademarks: Cutie Mark and Cutie Kapowie.
Note that, generally speaking, Trademark registrations in this series have paid off in the show little more than 1 year after they were filed; recent examples are the Trademarks for Rainbow Rocks and Rainbooms, both registered in June 2013.
Registering Cutie Mark related things for the next season must mean they have something big planned that involves them.

Still not convinced?
Then let's talk about the S5 animatic we got at SDCC: it involves, you guessed it, a strange case of equal sign Cutie Marks! I'd like to note that in the previous two seasons, the opening two-parters have established a story arc that would be resolved in the season finale, so it's safe to assume that will be the case again.
And that's not it yet! At the very SDCC panel, Meghan McCarthy said that S5 will have a bigger focus than ever on side characters, and you know which are the most prominent side characters in the series.

But why now, you may ask. Isn't it a bit sudden?
Alas, it isn't! Need I remind you that the last two seasons have introduced a little arc involving the CMC receiving guidance from Princess Luna in their dreams?
Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle had their turns, so it's safe to assume the last crusader will get her episode in Season 5.
But where could all this lead? To the future of the CMC of course!
Think about it, Princess Celestia is a mentor figure to all of the Mane 6, it would only make sense for her little sister to become the mentor figure of the Mane 6' little sisters (and adopted sister); the CMC will get their Cutie Marks during S5, and then start writing "Dear Princess Luna" letters, telling her about their experiences in what will be their future goal (maybe helping out other blank flanks?).
Note that Princess Luna has been said to have a nightmare this season, and you can bet the CMC are the ones who will reach out to her.

Mark my words: their time has finally come!

There are many reasons for this to be true, and everything you say here back that up.

The only reason I would disagree is that I would think to believe that their cutie marks would come in the official final season, when all of the character's storylines come to an end and everypony gets what they strived for since the beginning, however with something else too.

But it is very likely

why WOULDN'T they trademark cutie mark? it comes with the show. it means nothing. a lot of companies take up copyrights on stuff they ultimately don't end up using. Nintendo has done it a bunch of times.

While the evidence is compelling, I will point out that the U.S. Patent and Trademark's office website lists the trademark application on the term "Cutie Mark" as abandoned.

I'm not saying these toys won't necessarily tie in with the show, but I'll believe it when I see it. I hope they hold off on giving the Crusaders proper marks until the final season.

You're probably checking an older registration:

I admit I looked at one of the other entries, however I not that they actually had a trademark on the term "cutie mark" starting in 2004, and let it lapse in 2011. Odd.

That said, they don't have a valid one at present, and no guarantee they'll get one after having it already.

EDIT: Check that. I know why they let the original mark lapse. The first mark covered use of the term when referring to toy ponies. The one they are currently trying to register covers toy ponies and dolls. Two words: Equestria Girls.

CMC with cutie marks are no longer interesting to write and they are no longer CMC. I doubt it would happen

Personally, I find that the CMC are at their best when Not obsessing over getting their Cutie Marks, which has become a pretty tired plot point after 4 seasons.

You bring some really strong evidence of cutie marks becoming a theme in Season 5. I hope this does, because it would really bring forth a nice agenda on respecting and appreciating individuality, something today's society really needs a reality check on.

The marks on the Crusaders' legs are strange: animal print. Specifically, giraffe for Apple Bloom, zebra for Scootaloo, and leopard for Sweetie Belle. How could this possibly tie in to anything, if it does at all?

I do find the Cutie Mark Magic line intriguing...although I'm not a top fan of the designs I do absolutely adore the story potential this has as a tie-in for the Season 5 premiere or even another story arc if it's done correctly.

I'm not sure about the Crusaders getting cutie marks this season. I have my doubts about that specifically happening, but if they are to get more attention and character development this year then I'm all for it!

Nice theory. :D Thanks to you, I'm pretty convinced that the CMC will get their Cutie Marks in Season 5.

I hope one of the CMC gets a Cutie Mark in a separate episode instead of all three of them getting them at the same time. It'll make some believable conflict and interesting character development.

Well, who knows if that's going to happen, but your explanation makes sense and it's well backed, so, that makes it somewhat believable. I'm not entirely sure if they'll get their actual cutie marks, but they probably will be involved in something big, as FiM appears to be heading in that direction. Who knows if Cheerilee will be involved as well, as she has a rainbow power toy, and she looks quite good with it  ;)

okay guys, stop. seriously, people obsessing over the CMC's cutie marks is getting old.

It's called speculating, there's nothing obsessive about it, we're just doing it for fun; I don't see why we should stop just because it bothers you.

Why don't you go read some other topic instead?

@ Zekromic yeah, then they'll be useless, with no more characterization. like Conred said, if they get their cutie marks, they won't be interesting anymore. besides, how did they become friends? their desire to get their cutie marks. who's to say they won't part ways after they get them? besides, do you want applebloom to possibly be alienated from the rest of her family?

On one hand, the Crusade is getting old. Heck, even the writers seem to be getting tired of it. But once they get their Marks, just what can the writers DO with them?

Though I disagree with those who've said they won't be interesting and get no more characterization. Them getting their Marks is actually a chance for them to develop and grow.

Though I wouldn't look to the toys for answers. There have been plenty of things in the toyline that had no effect on the show whatsoever.

Okay now the CMC have been characters since season 1. They have had a good number of fantastic episodes such as Sisterhooves Social, Call Of The Cutie, Sleepless In Ponyville, Ponyville Confidential, and The Cutie Mark Chronicles. They are side characters and I like them because they allow the show to explore the characters of the other ponies in ponyville and not just the main 6.

Now as everyone knows the CMC's goal is to get their cutie marks, and I want this to happen. Twilight got to be a princess and grow as a character, and got a new house to further emphasize this point that the writers like to develop characters. We also got Discord turning good and many awesome things which have added development to the characters since S1, a thing many cartoons struggle to do.

But there is one problem, I don't feel that the writers have any respect for the Cutie Mark Crusaders. They write their episodes well and don't flanderize, do anything bad USUALLY. But the problem is that they are kind of going Ash Ketchum with these characters. Unlike Twilight and Discord who's development wasn't there specific goal. The Cutie Mark Crusaders have a goal they have wanted to accomplish for a long time and they haven't done it yet. For those of you who are about to say "they would no longer be interesting to write," let me ask you this. Would Sisterhooves Social, Sleepless In Ponyville, or the Equestria games arc be ANY different if the CMC had their cutie marks.

I don't quite understand, the MLP FIM team have always been one that respects its characters and its fans, so much they are doing an episode about fan favorite background ponys. So this absolutely baffles me. They have been hints of them getting them in S5 and I hope they do all I will be very disappointed.

Agreed! Only, I don't want them to get them all at the same time. I want.. Let's say, perhaps Sweetie Belle gets hers first. The other two crusaders would have to deal with the fact that she isn't a blank flank anymore. Be interesting, I think.

I want them to get their marks, too. Not necessarily in season 5, though. I think it would be best if it happened during the last season of the show. And, I agree, it would be great if only one of them got their cutie mark to start with, and they were left like that for a couple episodes before another got theirs. Would make for good stories.

Agreed, that would also make a potential for a great episode where they drift apart because of this. Also I know what their cutie marks should be.

Apple Bloom: Apple's

Scootaloo: Scooter

Sweetie Belle: Singing
