Gotta say, recently with a load of fantasy games coming out, namely WoW : Warlords of Draenor and LotR : Shadows of Mordor.

I've recently thought to myself what my favorite ones were. I've concluded WoW : Wrath of the Lich King was the best fantasy game that has satisfied all the needs i have to enjoy a fantasy game.

That's my personal opinion, whats yours?

That's quite the mismatched group of genres you have there. If you're specifically talking MMOs than I don't think Shadows of Mordor even counts.

I've grown tired of the fantasy genre in video games these days. The most fantastical game I've played recently is Blades of Time and only about an hour into it.

Than the specificity of MMOs and Action games wasn't even necessary?

Sword, shields and magic though? I can find that in a loooot of games that aren't specifically fantasy. Final Fantasy comes to mind. Pretty much the entire main series after FFV isn't fantasy in the slightest and more industrial or quasi-modern.

But if you wanna talk straight medieval then it's been a long time since I played one that was strictly set in that sort of setting. Skyrim was the last one I played of that and I never even finished it.

Yes, I'm aware I'm being difficult here.

I really liked Medievil. That game was all kinds of amazing. It's age sorta shows in the way it plays but the setting is both cartoony and dark at the same time. The darkness accentuates the cartooniness and vice versa.

Odin Sphere has amazingly technical gameplay but looks like it'd be a really simple game if you've never played it before. It can catch you off guard but if you get into it the combat will draw you in as much as the alchemy system.

If it wasn't obvious I kinda prefer my games to be less generic, particularly in the tired and old medieval fantasy genre.

I think he also means RPGs too. Mine would be The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim but there are many games out there like that.  I would also pick Legend of Zelda games too since they are set in a fantasy world.

The Souls games fulfill all my Medieval Action Fantasy RPG needs. Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 specifically

I forgot about the Souls games. These games can seriously scratch an itch few other games can even hope to reach. I'm a fan of Demon's Souls more than Dark Souls. Haven't played enough of Dark Souls II to have much to say about it though.

Side note: Can't wait for Bloodborne. I suspect it will beat out both.

While not exactly sword shields and magic, Wild ARMs 3 REALLY satisfied my want in fantasy. Wild ARMs 2 also, I didn't really get to far into 1 and I've never even played 4 or 5. The Wild ARMs series is more of a wild wild west type of game but it follows the tradition JRPG way of fighting (turn based) and is heavily story based. You use guns and rather than buy new equipment you're upgrading your own, but if you want a more fantasy-esque game well then...

TALES OF SYMPHONIA. One of the funnest games I ever played. A remake just recently came out for the PS3 if you're interested. It's a JRPG that takes place in a medieval world with a heavy story focus on religion and racism, but it's more light-hearted than you think. It's an action RPG (kinda) in which you control a single party memebr and AI controls the other three on the field of battle (unless you have friends to play it with :D), and a very awesome cast of characters. YOu'll also have skits, and I believe the Tales series (yes, just like Final Fantasy, there is a tales series where the games share the name "Tales of" but not a continuing story) is the first to implement this sort of concept. Essentially, there will be random times you get the option to hear  the characters thoughts on certain events happening in the story or they will expand on some of the lore, or even develop as characters a little. I love skits, Bravely Default also has something exactly like this in its Party Chats stuff.

Other tales games and even Symphonia to an extent (An mostly later in the game), have to deal with alot of sci-fi themes, but this is almost expected in JRPG now since it's seems to be so popular in them. BUT if you try Symphonia and like it, I strongly recommend going and getting others in the series. I think Tales of Graces F (PS3) is a great game for you guys on the forums to try, it has a heavy story focusing on friendship, though it's more industrial than most other recent Tales Games (having tons of futuristic technology). Tales of Xillia (PS3) is also just tons of fun to play, but my favorite protagonist comes form Tales of Vesperia (XBOX 360).

Sorry that I was so long winded with that, I just have a passion for gaming and fantasy

Ohai. Another Wild Arms fan. :D

Wild Arms is the farthest thing from medieval and fantasy though. WA1 and XF are the only ones that even remotely have a similar setting. They're more sci-fi/steampunk and wild west with a hint of spiritualism.
