Fandoms that are mostly female?

I've been browsing through Dragon Age stuff on DeviantART a lot lately and it seems that most of the stuff I come across is chicks fangirling over Alistair - at least on that site. I hold steadfast in my belief that Morrigan is superior, though.

I'm going to say Supernatural, Doctor Who, and Sherlock. I usually meet female fans, and have met only one or two male fans. Maybe their female fans are more vocal.

Twilight, One Direction, Justin Bieber, Hunger Games...

Sadly, pretty much 70 or so percent of the things mainstream society finds obnoxious.

Hunger Games was pretty cool. Of course, it could have been way cooler.

Mainly if the plot didn't revolve around a bland character who was manipulated and controlled to the point that her actions didn't matter much, used as a mere Propaganda Device rather than a proper Ace/Trump Card, and had some epic Peeta And Katniss VS Enemies battles instead of having Peeta get injured and Katniss took care of him... OMG JUST LEIK GURRLZ DU IN REEL LAIF!

Plus, there could have been an EPIC bow duel against Katniss and a fellow bow-using sniper/hunter.

Frozen and most Disney films are mostly female, from what I've seen. Same with SNK.

However, this might be skewed due to my being on Tumblr, which I'm fairly sure is mostly female. I could just be unlucky/lucky in terms of variety meeting

I can think of several (Beliebers, One Direction...), but people probably already know about THOSE, and have posted them above.

Also, just saying...makes me wonder what goes over there in their fandoms... :S

The general MLP fandom, and also the The Sims fandom. Although Animal Crossing seems more mixed, I've seen polls on AC forums showing that the vast majority of members were girls, too.

From my experiences on DeviantART, I see a fair amount of female fans in certain fandoms. These fandoms include the Powerpuff Girls, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, boy bands, certain kinds of anime, Yaoi and Frozen. :P

I'm not too sure if these really are female dominant fandoms, however. Outside of DeviantART, another fandom I know is The Sims, and according to statistics, there are more females who play this game than there are males.

Nope. You're probably right about the females being vocal, but I've met a crap ton of fans for each, and I'm also a member of all three fandoms, but I could probably count the number of female fans from all three on my hands.

Pop music. Really any pop music will be filled with thousands of teenage girl fans, and even more so with songs about "fat white pride" comming from artists like megan trainer getting the cat eyed classes wearing tumblr crowd involved.

And for some reason, women make up nearly 54% of this games userbase. Game is terrible though, god awful controls and unless you make extreme moral choices nothing changes.

The Justin Bieber fandom? Lol, I'm sure there are plenty of guy fans too, but it seems to me that it's always been girls who are fans.

Or /have/ been fans.... When he wasn't a douche.

He used to be a bad musician.

Now he's a bad person.

An example that immediately comes to mind from my own experience is Harvest Moon, but if we're talking about online fandoms, they can be particularly hard to judge, since you can never figure the composition of a silent majority. The areas of the fandom you're drawn to might also colour your perception of it in general, based on its appeal to different kinds of fans.

Boy bands such as One Direction, Justin Bieber, or Jonas Brothers because girls think they're cute. And there's book series like Twilight and Hunger Games that I've seen a lot of girls read. And sometimes there are girls really into superheroes such as Batman, Iron Man, and Captain America which are mainly targeted towards boys.

Ouch. So I guess the belief still stands that usually whenever something has a female audience or is intended for females is unpleasant and low in quality despite the whole brony phenomenon and the fact that the SuperWhoLock shows are all great in quality as well (in fact, ahem- targeted towards all older genders and people)?

C'mon guys, let's cut the sexism. Having a mostly female fandom doesn't make something any less in quality for the content itself. It also doesn't mean females are prone to liking low quality media either. I may not personally prefer some bands that girls like that you listed above- and you most likely don't either but again, let's not generalize from the less desirable.

The key words here are "sadly" and "mainstream society", of which i'm not really all that connected with. The two ideas (fandoms with primarily female audiences and fandoms that people find distasteful) obviously don't have any connection with each other, but the two tend to line up with each other so much through circumstance that people tend to associate one with the other before the fact. I was noting the unhappy coincidence.

I'm glad you cleared up my misconception about your opinion. I hope I wasn't overreacting to those who may be less familiar with female fandoms but this kind of idea is way to widely practiced. It's just really disheartening when people still believe in all this stigma- it happens way to much in my experience with a mostly female fanbase.

First one which came to mind was Twilight, I was the ONLY boy in the cinema when I saw 'New Moon' with my sister and there wasn't an empty seat anywhere. Girls in Team Edward tees were screaming, sighing and booing the entire way through
