Should Discord lose his powers?

I don't mean permanently, I mean as a form of lesson. Perhaps Discords plays a prank on the wrong pony that happened to have a way of taking Discords magic from him, and Discord can only get it back by learning some lesson, or maybe have his powers taken by someone intending to use them for their own agenda and not Twilight, Discord and the others have to retrieve his powers before things get out of hand. Whatever the reason, I would love to see this as a story plot sometime in the future.

And no I am not counting Tirek draining Discord of his magic because we barely got to see anything happen with Discord without his powers. I would like to see how the Mane 6 reacts to it. Would they be supportive of Discord and try to help him gain back his powers or would they tell Discord he got what he deserved but reluctantly helps him either do to him begging or do to Fluttershy convincing them that Discord would not be himself without his powers.

I think it'd be cool to see, but I think for him to lose the powers he would have to do something bad. I bet it'd turn into a Fluttershy episode after that trying to get them to support him and such (not that I'm against a Fluttershy episode at all! )

I think the whole thing of reforming the god of chaos was just, not the best move. I think Discord should of gotten the same thing Sombra did considering they both caused misery. Heck, Sombra only did it to the Crystal empire while Discord did it to all of Equestria. If they are going to keep him alive, I'd say revoke his powers permanently.

That would be a decent enough episode. Also akin to a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode Déjà Q and Q did learn a moral lesson at the end and sought to sacrifice himself to save the USS Enterprise.

I missed this post. I would think that your idea would be extremely unpopular with the majority of the fandom as part of Discords allure is the humor and whimsical silliness that comes with his powers. A one off story dealing with a de powered Discord but more than that may be overkill and detrimental to the popularity of the character (and possibly the show as a whole)

Anyone who's seen "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" and saw how the Winter Warlock's powers weakened after he was reformed knows exactly what I'm talking about.

Not much to add to that outside of saying that this is an interesting idea. If they would be able to somehow modify his powers it would be more palatable to the fan base in general, but a slow ebbing of his powers due to his change of heart is a nice touch even if I would hate him losing them entirely.

Temporary (not 100 years. Maybe a few Discord episodes at the very most.) would be a good idea maybe if it relates to the plot. I don't know how ponies not trusting him and stealing his magic would work for the plot. Fluttershy would have something to say if someone stole his magic.

I could see it working in a context of really putting discord through the ringer. Like at the end of Season 4 where he got swayed to be mischevious again, maybe it could be an ep showing how he used to love chaos and is having a constant struggle between trying to be friends with the ponies and resisting the ever so tempting temptations to cause chaos. Maybe the Mane Six would have a bit more distrust of him causing him to consider it immensely.

 

Something like him getting under Twilights skin and challenging her to a contest of not using her magic and he can't use his. I don't know what lesson there would be to be learned from something like that though, but it'd be entertaining.

To those of you who are also STTNG fans (and I'm sure there's more than a few here) Think back to the episode where Q lost all his powers and was kicked out of the Continuum. How wonderful to see him mortal, capable of being wounded, even able to bleed! Q in that episode certainly did suffer as a mortal!

 

So, with that in mind, I'm thinking: yeah, Discord loses all his powers (supposedly forever, let's leave that up for grabs.) Being suddenly mortal and at the literal mercy of every single pony not only in Ponyville but all of Equestria would certainly be more than enough to motivate him to really, truly reform and, of course, I'm sure there's a ton of ponies out there, somewhere, who'd be more than happy to take revenge on the now-mortal Discord for all the chaos and misery he'd created in the past.

 

This, of course, would naturally create a lovely sub-plot in which the Mane Six would be required to protect Discord's life from the (probably) hundreds of thousands - let's just say raging hoard - that want's nothing more than to end him!

 

Yeah, sounds interesting to me.
