Romance plots in season 5

What would you guys think if the writers deceide to explore romantic plots in season 5? As much as I think it would be a little different than the show usual tone, I'm cna't help but get curious about how certain characters could be handled. Take raimbowdash for exemple, it would very amusing to see her as a tsundere of some sort, and the other mane 6 reaction could be fun. So far only twilight and rarity had these kind of focus on love life, so i hope the authors explore this angle with the others. Thoughts?

Applejack had one, too, last season. Granted, she didn't want it, but she had it.

 

I doubt they'll do anything more than one-offs or strong hints, same as they've done before. I think they're even toning down Spike and Rarity's thing going on there.

I mean it is a relatively innocent show and romance tends to breed jealousy and upset the shippers. When the shippers are upset they spread chaos throughout the internet forums in their rage. lol I've been there several times in other fandoms when shippers raged about ships they requested not being made.

I would like to see a story about somepony who is in love with Pinkie Pie.

I got it, a new pony comes into Ponyville. A green Pegasus with glasses and a game controller as a cutie mark comes in and him and Pinkie fall for each other and live happily ever after.   

 

Joking aside (Though I somewhat wish that would happen  ), I really don't think MLP is that great with romance plots and this is coming from a big shipper. Even the most popular straight ships in the fandom (sorry, can't do slash ships due to the backlash the show would get) are popular because of one or two moments that people interpret as shipping (CheesePie and SoarinDash come to mind). And even though I ship at least one of those (Back off Cheese, she's mine ), I can't see it being in the show. Again, the show's romance either comes off as awkward (EQG and Rainbow Rocks), exaggerated for comedy (Hearts and Hooves Day), or just there to serve the plot only for them not ending up together (Best Night Ever and Simple Ways). Sure, there's Cadance and Shining Armor, but they were a corporate mandate. The only couple I can think of they could explore is Big Mac and Cheeralie due to some hints several times in the background.

I highly doubt it will happen. Maybe there will be one, but it might not get much focus, or be taken seriously. I would be fine with one as long as it's cleverly written, and it further develops the characters.

Well, as we have seen in the never ending romance between Twilight Sparkle and that blue haired human self insert, FiM is not very good and handling romantic subplots. And the ones it does do well, are ones that are either handled in a comedic fashion (ala hearts and hooves day and simple ways) or with more "adult" characters who have already found their place in the universe (ala canterlot wedding). The main issue with having a member of the mane 6 be in a romance is that in order to make it so they have chemistry the character/romantic interest would have to be around often, and partake in the daily goings as a pair. Otherwise the pairing comes off as forced and rather fake, like that of brad the waifu stealer and Twilight the human fetishist. So in order to really achieve this balance, the love interest character would have to be around fairly often, and that would throw off the balance the mane 6 have, where all characters play off one another's strengths and weaknesses. And that is why I don't see a legitimate romance happening right now, the character would either be a total spare tire, and just carried along and forced in only to prove they can do things when the plot says they can, or they would only appear once or twice and be the most empty cartoon romance ever.

There are only 2 types of romance in this show

1. One shot romances that end in the same episode

2. Ship teases thrown in the background

 

I doubt we will se any recurring romance that will be mentioned in other episodes. Equestria Girls pretty much destroyed possibility of Twilight having relationship with pony Flash since shes still into his human version. Maybe cheerimac and fluttercord will get some teases but it will probably stay subtle enough to interpret it as friendship stuff.

If we need any one shot romances then probably the one in need of shipping material is Applejack. Her only straight shipping include BG pony Caramel and her own brother Big Mac. We could use some scenes where we learn her tastes in males(or females)

I think half of the brony community would be crying because the show completely ruined their fanfictions.

And all I would say is this:

 

I love the taste of brony tears, so I think MLP should have a romance plot in the future.

I wouldn't mind so long as it is done well, romance itself has been explored in the show but so far none of the mane 6 have been in any romantic relationships unless you include Rarity's crushes on Prince Blueblood and later Trenderhoof and of course there is Spikes crush on Rarity. It would be interesting to see someone other than Rarity or Spike having a crush, it would be kind of adorable to see Rainbow Dash with a crush with how she is supposedly not into all the "mushy" stuff. For actual relationships involving the mane 6  they would have to take a bit more care but it can still be done without negatively impacting the show but overall I am neutral.

Romance can be done without going the route of Mane Six shipping and fanfics. You have the Cherilee and Big Mac possibility, and while you may not think this would qualify, Shining Armor and Cadance could use further development in this regard. Romance doesn't end when you are married.

I'm gonna say no to mane six romantic relationships because as has been pointed out already, the love interest would have to be a prominent character to feel like the relationship wasn't just shoehorned in, and adding a new mane character at this point would throw off the balance.

 

But maybe the CMC could get a new male member (as much as I would love to see homosexual relationships represented in children's programming, I doubt even this show would do it to this point in history) and he could have a cute, schoolyard romance thing with one of them. I would be okay with that.
