If you could retcon three things about EG what would they be?

 

1. Flash Sentry, he needs to be gone, to not exist. I'm not saying that there shouldn't be any kind of love intrest, just not him.

2. The setting. If used they entire town as the backdrop insted of just the school, I dont think anyone would have mind.

3.SS and Twiley should have had previous knowledge of one another. Logicly if the two are the same age then their training under Celestia should have been at the same time, even if they were not freinds and Celestia for whatever reason kept them secret from each other they should have at least passed each other in the castle.

-Expositions and Twily's awkwardness made into shorts

-Remove Twily's and Waifu Thief romance subplot, reducing it to Twily seeing him as a helpful nice guy. Only adding a hint of romance at the end, the same bump with pony Flash, Twily recognice him, the same crush teasing, Twily denying it, but later reconsiders it. Though, I'm not sure about that part, after all, thanks to the hate he gets, he has become one of my favorite characters

1.  Change the ages - the mane six are adults and the Cutie Mark Crusaders are about 10.

 

2.  Change the setting to a college campus instead of a high school.

 

3.  Have the first movie end with human Pinkie Pie going through the portal into Equestria, setting up a sequel about her adventures in a magical pony world and getting her back home again.

Yes, human Pinkie Pie going to Equestria would be great. How would she look in Equestria? Presumably she'd take on a pony form, but wouldn't look identical to the pony Pinkie Pie (just as human Twilight and human-form pony Twilight look different). She might not even be an earth pony.

The two aren't the same age. In Sunset Shimmer's backstory from the comics we Sunset as a teenager while Twilight was still only a filly. The age gap between the two is probably about 5-10 years and I believe Sunset went rogue shortly before Celestia took Twilight on as her student.

1. Flash would actually do something noteworthy to catch Twilight's eye.

 

2. Flash's prior relationship with Sunset would give her a Morality Pet in the climax, thus actually being important and making her Heel-Face Turn not so rushed.

 

3. Demon!Sunset would turn all the brainwashed students, not just Snips and Snails, into demons, thus giving the visual idea that she'd actually have an army that could somehow compete with the Mane 6, Celestia, Luna, Cadance, Shining, Discord, etc.

I don't know, it's one of the big plotholes of that movie.

-Sunset Shimmer stole the crown not because of a need for power, but because she feels Celestia truly wronged her by refusing her her destiny. The plot with the crown is an attempt to get back at her.

-Sunset Shimmer ends up fighting Celestia in the climax, and is about to defeat her before the elements show up and stop her. Afterward, she attempts to reconciles with Celestia, and Celestia forgives her much like she did Luna.

-Sunset Shimmer becomes the element of Faith.

1. Remove Flash Sentry Walking Cardboard from the movie. He's not just a Gary Stu, but a useless Gary Stu. He's hated for a reason (and, no, "he stole my waifu" is an obnoxious strawman that — needs — to — die), and it's deserved. If he was cut off from the films, then nothing would've changed.

Instead of the whole plot being about the "newcomer-coming-to-school-to-win-some-stupid-popularity-contest" plot (not only a major high school cliche that EQG didn't get close to being right, but also contradicted one of Sweet & Elite's secondary morals), the plot would be a critique of how public schools run. One of the show's subversions is how the Mane Six are independent. They don't follow trends. Each character is unique in their own right and capture the hearts of people no matter the gender. Public schools are notorious for being really structured, as if there's little ability to be themselves. Take concepts of individualism and have Twilight and the rest of the HuMane Five lead the charge.

There would be a different reason Sunset Shimmer left Canterlot, and she would not be a villain. One of the reasons Celestia tutored Twilight was to prove that she's capable of leading. Sunset was her previous student, but Sunset felt too overwhelmed and sheltered. Instead of being kicked out like what IDW revealed, she voluntarily drops out because she couldn't hold the pressure. Also, her personality would be completely different. Someone who's strong and independent like the others and getting good grades, but feels homesick and wants to come home…but doesn't out of fear that Celestia and her family remain disappointed and mad with her.

Hmm... I think you wasted a good #1 on Flash Sentry. He's not really worth talking about.

 

I do like #3. Sunset Shimmer was kind of a poor villain. Not good, but not really evil, the kind of "unnecessarily petty" thing that I expect more from Diamond Tiara than a movie villain. It would've nice for someone to finally challenge Twilight Sparkle intellectually, and to have a much more compelling background on her. Sorry, but IDW's "she was born evil" approach didn't really do it for me.

1. The movie is about Pinkie meeting EQG Pinkie after finding the mirror, later SS finds the mirror, steals the crown, and floors the Royals/Twilight/Cadence, and turns Discord to stone while Pinkie is in EQG realm. 
2. EQG Pinkie agrees to come to Equestria with Pinkie to help Pinkie face a not so pushover demon alicorn SS who was once EQG Pinkie's friend. 
3. EQG Pinkie & Pinkie do the fusion dance, and beat SS with Soul Punish, because they can. SS is reformed, and makes up with EQG Pinkie, then they return back to EQG realm.

Change things so Celestia and Luna are not leaders of the school for one. I also agree with some others that changing or getting rid of Flash Sentry would be a good thing. Also, Sunset Shimmer could have had a better motivation and resolution than in the first film.
