herro everybrony! so, how's life.... lets move on

so, i realized ALOT like ALOT of the bronies have a liking for princess Luna, than for Princess Celestia

which i found interesting, i personally have no preference, they are both awesome

But...Luna may have more admirers (i can't think of good words right now) because of her mysteriousness, and maybe is more relateable? I don't know.... any thoughts?

I find Luna a bit like the "aunt that grew up a few years older than me and so is into the same things (as well as a few darker things that we have in common) " kind of relateable and would hang with her more because of such, whereas Tia seems more like that aunt that one can always rely on in tough times, and is a bit motherly and I'd hang with her for that reason. I'd try to split my time with both as much as possible because of how I can relate to each one.

...I just think that the Princess Molestia idea of turning her into a gamer and the fact she is princess of the freaking NIGHT is awesome lol. Ok ok, bit more serious; I think she is a wonderful character with a lot of relatable aspects, as well as tons of room for character growth. While Celestia isn't "bad" per-say, she just doesn't really feel as interesting or engaging

I think it's because the night has always interested people because since we aren't nocturnal, then we are more curious about the night. Besides, she has Nightmare Moon form! It's like a mega evolution!

1. Princess Luna has that "swaggy" personality that everyone wants to relate to

2. Her build is dark blue, unlike most other characters with really girly colors

3. She has a VERY deep personality, and deep character personalities are kinda hard to come by in kids' shows these days

4.  There's something about her that gets you obsessed

I think it's because the night has always interested people because since we aren't nocturnal, then we are more curious about the night. Besides, she has Nightmare Moon form! It's like a mega evolution!

I'm nocturnal.  At least, on weekends.

I love Luna for many reasons, but that's not to say that i dislike Celestia for any reason.

Mostly it is because she is of the moon and I'm quite fascinated with all the aspects of our moon so in that alone there's that connection for myself personally.

As far as the show I like how they have made her character. I like her design and colorations and I like this dualality between her and NMM.

One of the biggest differences between Luna and Celestia is that there are NOW two episodes where it shows Luna reaching out to help someone (Scoots and SB) where Celestia, dispite being ruler has really done nothing.

Ya sure, she guides Twilight but she doesn't "reach out" to anyone else.

And I think that's it in a nut shell.

Celestia, I feel, keeps her distance from everyone with the only exceptions of Twilight and royal duty stuff.

So until they fix this in show, my princess will always be Luna

Well, cadence is just absolutely adorable. Also an adrenaline junkie, who knew?
... Oh, Luna.

I like her. Like a lot of other people, I find more appreciation for the night than the day. Luna being the "dark horse" to Celestia's often crushing brilliance leads people to side with her more. Most of us here can relate to not being the perfect/loved/admired one, and constantly living in someone else's shadow. We're all imperfect like the moon.

Celestia has an outward appearance of being perfect. From that perspective, she symbolizes the people that were always just better than you, no matter what you did. That facade keeps most people from looking deeper at Celestia; instead, they'd rather label her as a troll or "Molestia" in attempt to break the impression of flawlessness. No one can really relate to the overwhelming presence of the sun.

Of course, Celestia's not like that at all; she's just as tragic as Luna. Moreso, in fact. Like the fact that she had to choose whether or not to banish her sister, who had become a monster through her own doing. Doing so would mean getting rid of someone who had been with her since the beginning, while not doing so would mean the destruction of herself, the ponies she loved, and everyone and everything she stood to protect. Pyrrhic victory.

There's also Sunset Shimmer. I'm sure it must have hurt removing the prized pupil you spent time with since fillyhood from that position. It's even worse when you consider that Celestia no doubt saw her as a daughter, and has probably spent years waiting for her to come back. Then there's the fact that this happened after Nightmare Moon's banishment and Starswirl's disappearance, which means Celestia was left truly alone at that point. However, not doing so would have meant letting the power hungry Sunset Shimmer rule Equestria, and risking its total decay or destruction. Pyrrhic victory.

It's pretty much this over and over, Celestia having to make impossible decisions, but making them anyway. But's ironically, its much harder to see these in comparison to the "sis boom bah" of NMM's banishment. In that way, Celestia is basically the Luna to Luna. She needs more love.

I attribute the popularity of Luna to the fanciful ways of youth.

Gamer Luna, Princess of the Rave Party, The Gothic Alicorn, etc etc...

These thing appeal more to younger people.

Celestia the bureaucratic workaholic that chugs through 5 gallons of coffee in the morning and works from sun up to sun down, however, appeals more to the thirty something year olds that can relate to do that.

You got more younger fans than older fans, so Luna is more popular.

That's my theory anyways.

...

...

Hail Celestia.

Bronies like because he know when the time is right she will overthrow Celestia and free Equestria from her Tryanny. All hail the Lunar Republic.

What tyranny? The residence seems very passionate to have Celestia as their ruler. What evidence is there to prove otherwise?

I would passionate to if mean't avoiding being taken by the secert police. No pony get's a say in what goes one unless you are part fo the elite that live in Canterlot. The fact she sent Luna to the moon instead of purfying her like the mane 6 did. The fact she constently banishes other to the moon, to stone or Hell without trials.

Purifying Nightmare Moon was something only Twilight and her friends could pull off once they gained control of the elements of harmony. Celestia had no choice but to banish her before those events. We even find out later on that Celestia herself regrets doing this.

Also, she doesn't "constantly" banish others to the moon without the need for trials, because we haven't seen any evidence behind it. It is simply a nasty habit of the fandom to portray her as a tyrant that deveates so far from her canon character, it's not even laughable, at least from my perspective. But even if that method of punishment is confirmed, keeping someone confined from society for several years seems like a decent punishment for someone who just attempted to seize control over a whole land and cover it in eternal darkness.

People seem to have it in common that Luna and themselves are not the most well socially adjusted, and enjoy fun things more than being friendly, if that's the right way to describe it. *scratches head*

However Celestia is much wiser and more sage-like, which makes her slightly less relatable in comparison.

Guily until proven inocent. Also should probably feels guilty she didn't think of using the elements to purify her.

I prefer Celestia, personally, but the debate will continue for all ages.

But if you go ahead and ask people whether they prefer night or day, often the result is night.

So to hear this news, isn't surprising at all.

And Who doesn't like those innocent catchphrases?

Gamer Luna, Princess of the Rave Party, The Gothic Alicorn, etc etc...

^ Pretty much this.

Like many, Luna is my favourite princess and I find her to be one of the most interesting and layered characters on the show - there's her whole tragic backstory/villain redemption arc kind of thing, and then we see her struggling to adjust to modern life and being a bit socially awkward, but that she genuinely does want make friends and be part of the community, she just doesn't know how. And then, as others have said, we see her reaching out to Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo via their dreams - she's using her own bad experiences to help other ponies, in a way that's unique to her, and yeah - it's subtle, but some really nice character development over the series. Lunaaaa <3

But I really love Celestia too, for all the reasons @Shimmer5000 (sorry, I don't know how to tag usernames!) eloquently stated - because we don't see her develop in the same way, it's easy to forget just how many difficult decisions she's had to make too, with Nightmare Moon and Sunset Shimmer and who knows what else. She doesn't get as much focus, apart from as a mentor to Twilight - but we do also see her being kind and generous to others, too, like Fluttershy in A Bird In The Hoof and Rarity in Sweet and Elite (she didn't HAVE to let her stay at the castle!). I also really like her micro-series and team-up with Spike in the IDW comics - I get why people might not like her because she's too ~flawless~, but I think she's much more interesting than a lot of people give her credit for. It kind of annoys me when fans pit them against each other seriously - their relationship is a huge part of what makes both of them so interesting, so demonising Celestia to make Luna look better (or vice versa) is just tiring. Especially since I feel like a lot of it started really early in the series - before either had really gotten much screentime - and some people just decided that Luna was perfect and blameless so obviously Celestia was secretly an evil dictator/sex offender/troll, and just clung to that no matter what canon gave us. Preferring one over the other is cool, obviously, but in canon they're both good ponies who care about each other (and their subjects) deeply despite everything, and no one will convince me otherwise.

/and that's how Equestria was made

I like both, but I like Luna better because she seems more real to me.  That is to say she has a more dynamic, deep personality.  Celestia seems, idk, a bit flat.  A bit too perfect, imho.  Luna has dealt with flaws, she more's relatable and more engaging.  Really, it's just that one episode, Luna Eclipsed that makes me have this opinion.  I've long thought we need a Celestia spotlight where we get to see more of her character.  Something deep, beneath the surface.  Some vulnerability, perhaps.  If we had an episode like that, my opinion might flip like night and day.  Oh boy, that was bad.  That was the epitome of corny jokes.  I didn't even intend to do that.

Anyway, just off the top of my head, as an idea for an emotional scene, let's suppose that one night Twilight pays a visit to Celestia for whatever reason.  Twilight knocks on Celestia's chamber door, but there's no answer.  Twilight leans closer and hears muffled sobs.  She gently opens the door to find Celestia crying, perhaps while looking at some old painting or something.  When Celestia sees the young princess, she makes a rather futile attempt to hide her tears, knowing full well that Twilight has already seen them.  Take it from there.  Let the scene unfold in your mind as you will.  For me, it makes me wonder what Celestia's past holds, makes me relate to her, and makes me absolutely love her for reasons that are difficult to explain.

Well,@Justin_Case001, it depends on what you're looking at. Even if you don't read the comics for me, the single tear she shed in Princess Twilight Sparkle spoke volumes. Looking at it from her side, a lot of the things she has to deal with every day are impossible choices.

I personally like all of the princesses. ( I have at least one plush of each of them)

I think as people mentioned the main brony age group (teens and twenties) thrive at night , so they can appreciate Luna's night.

I think another reason is because Celestia is clearly a "girly" princess , so a princess the intended audience would love. Whereas Luna's the "dark and rebellious" princess so older ponies will tend to like better.

I really liked the growth they gave the two sisters in the Journal of the Two Sisters that came out ^_^

Ohhhh, was that a season 4 episode?  See, I haven't seen season 4, because I'm waiting for the dvd set to come out.  But I do know from the community that there wasn't a Celestia spotlight.  However, this scene you mentioned makes me like her better already.

Luna. I'm not sure exactly why, but I find her more appealing as in what I like in a girl. She has an incredible dominate personality, very royal. I love tough girls. Her voice is amazing and loud, as if to say "You better listen to me or else!". Her eyes mouth and jaw are tough looking, like she's a princess ready for battle that no one could hope to win against. Her mane flows effortlessly and endlessly, showing the stars within them no matter day or night. I always wonder what her mane smells like, maybe a summer rain dew or the smell of a hot shower running. She shows some insecurity and loneliness that of mine, and tries to adapt from being away for 1,000 years. I know how she feels, and I love her. :)
