I don't see it, For all we know its a statue of an actual sphinx. Ahuizotl is an anchient mythological figure and he shows up, and it has been shown that there was an anchient Egyptian period that Discord hung out in. 

 

Also the fact that the solar system is entirely different and the moon is so small you can safely pull it to the planet via a lasso without detrimental gravitational effects says its an entirely different planet if not an entirely different dimension (cause there are TWO known dimensions in the mlp comic verse, one of which has humans)

If true, then it would give me even more reason to hate the misanthropic bronies in this fandom. 

 

I guess, I could live it though, as long as the ponies an aren't butch of specist misanthropes. I've had enough of that sort thing in certain fan fictions.
