im pretty sure their forms in RR were their true forms or something close to how their true forms look and then the box art is just completely something different and not actually what they look like in equestria. most mlp art that has to do with their toy lines is different from the show/movie because adagio doesnt look like this in the movie obviously

well, close to the end of the movie when they're doing the "welcome to the show bit" she does look a bit similar...

I have no clue what to tell you about this, I've wondered it too before, honestly. Maybe they were ponies that could change their forms?

Well, probably a marketing ploy. But in-world, it might have had some use if they used that form to "seduce" ponies in Equestria. They needed some way to get close to their victims after all.

 

That ending was so very confusing.

If the siren forms were their real forms, then that means that the "Dazzlings" should have died when their spirits shattered.

If their real bodies happened to be whatever was left after they got hit by the EOH... then what did they summon? Why not just turn into hippocampi and attack that way?

It was more like a projection of their former selves, just as the mane six plus one projected a giant Alicorn spirit. They were turned into humans when they entered the human world. Now, without any magic, they're trapped with nothing to their names but the clothes they're wearing. I find that sad. I think it's actually too much of a punishment.

yeah but adagio doesnt look like that, only the outfit is similar and they didnt even get the coloring right.
