Most pointless Holidays or events

What is the most pointless Holidays ever or any events that happen in your area. (Please explain what the event is and why it is useless, same as the Holiday).

I would say Valentines day (Hearts and Hooves day). I just don't see the reason to celebrate love. I know some people take it as love as in family too, but its like mainly a "couple's holiday". Like, can't you make a certain day a couple's day for yourselves? The only thing I like about Valentines day, is the candy and stuff. Its just my opinion at least :/ I mean, I try and do some things with my boyfriend, but we really don't take Valentines day literal. Lol, we just give each other candy and say "Here, enjoy!" xD

Here in the U.S. we also have a Holiday called Groundhogs day (Which I am born on..), unless it occurs in other countries, I dunno. I think its pointless because alls it is, is we "believe that if a Goundhog sees its shadow, then more Winter, if not, then no more Winter" which is just a dumb myth. Some people actually take a real Groundhog and do that. Though, there's been countless times of Groundhogs seeing their shadow and Winter doesn't last. I dunno, I think its dumb.

  • Valentine's Day (Celebrating love just seems kind of forced)
  • Birthdays (Celebrating not being dead yet seems forced as well)
  • Thanksgiving (Basically a day of eating more than what you should, and it celebrates the slaughter of the Native Americans)
  • Columbus Day (Yay, some guy discovered a land that was already inhabited, and then slaughtered those people, let's celebrate!)
  • Groundhog Day (It's just a myth, no reason to have a holiday for it)

There's honestly a good bit of pointless holidays.

Columbus Day, by far. Christopher Columbus wasn't even a good man himself. He treated the Indians that inhabited the land poorly, so there's just no need.

Also, Groundhog Day. Spring would be 6 weeks away in the first place. That's like saying "IF A KID GETS OFF SCHOOL IN MAY/JUNE, THAT MEANS CHRISTMAS IS 6/7 MONTHS AWAY!"

St. Patrick's If it doesn't get me out of school it's not a holiday.

Boxing Day I don't get it

Columbus Day The holiday of America's first mass murderer comes with couch sales

Groundhog's Day I believed that myth for two minutes before I realized it didn't make any sense, nor did it deserve a holiday.

Talk Like a Pirate Day. Like, dude, seriously! What the hell? :okiedokielokie:

I never actually liked Valentine's Day either, surprise surprise. :D Why do we need one day to piss all the single people off by encouraging public affection? Why do we need one day for "love"? Aren't we supposed to love each other until death?

Christmas/the holiday season today, with the ridiculous levels of commercialism that have been coming on in the past few decades, has become a parody of itself. While some commercial interests have been responsible for some of the most sincere symbols and traditions of the holiday season (the modern image of Santa Claus and "A Charlie Brown Christmas" are both indebted to Coca-Cola, "Miracle on 34th Street" and the Thanksgiving Day Parade to Macy's, even Rudolph to Montgomery Ward), the tone has become more crass, phony, and transparent as a moneymaking scheme first and foremost. The commercialism of all of the holidays is getting so bad that it's making Festivus look legitimate.

If you'll excuse me, I'm going to be making my donation to the Human Fund.

Thanksgiving. Honestly it's hardly about being thankful anymore. It's really just about stuffing your face and not feeling guilty about it.

Maybe I just don't give a crap about thanksgiving though because I hate most of my family. So there's that. No big get togethers and I don't care for having a big feast.

Valentine's Day: It's just a day to make single people feel bad that they are single. Besides, why have a day to love someone when you should be doing that every day?

Arbor Day: Just Why? This day is self parody.

April Fools Day: A day for pranking? Really? I can prank my friends any day to be honest? Why have a day dedicated to being fooled?

St. Patrick's Day: I like green, but I feel this holiday should only apply to the Irish.

Mother's Day/Father's Day: See one for Valentine's day, except for parents.

Columbus Day: Does anyone even what this holiday is outside of get out of school day?

Also, Christmas can tone down it's commercialism by like 10,000 notches.

Groundhog Day: Something about a groundhog somehow seeing its shadow. Is this even legit? Why is this day here?

Valentine's Day. It used to have meaning, but now it's all "If you're single, then you MUST be in a relationship!". It doesn't help that I'm single and I really, really don't want a boyfriend.

That's all I got. I don't know all that much besides the over-commercialised holidays.

Probably any of the holidays that are basically just an excuse to have a three day weekend like Veterans Day or Labor Day. I don't mind the three day weekend per say, but it doesn't feel like much of a holiday if there aren't any traditions to go along with it like Christmas Trees or Easter Eggs.

Groundhogs day is very pointless. Lets celebrate a Myth. Yay. No one can predict the weather. Lets just let some Groundhog loose and tell whether it can predict more Winter.

Same as Columbus day. I almost forget about it, because I don't care.

I forgot to even put Columbus day because I almost forget about it all the time because it doesn't exist to me xD

But I know, the History of Christopher Columbus. He was not that good :/

April fools day is the god most ANNOYING day of my life. Most people always make the dumbest jokes. I never buy it.

People make jokes every day. Come on.

Valentine's day. Ugh.

Also, Halloween is pretty pointless. Just saying.

Only reason why I like Halloween, is the marathon of Horror movies. Other than that, alls you do is celebrate it for a few hours, dressed up and trick or treat...but as kids.

Adults, there is parties, but not everyone goes to them or gets invited. Its really nothing.

Cinco de Mayo. Why is it a big deal that Mexico won their battle at Puebla ? It's not like it's Mexican Independence Day. I think the US needed a May holiday, so they invented it.

I don't really understand Guy Fawkes Night that much either.

It's great fun if you live somewhere it's celebrated properly. Massive bonfire and firework show just at the time when the winter nights are drawing in.

The one I don't much see the point in is New Year's Day. Nobody celebrates new months or new weeks, so why new years?

Hmm. Well I would have to say April Fools. That is a useless holiday for immature pranks.

Last year I went to buy mascara on April Fools day and they played a prank on me by saying I was ugly.

Hate April Fools..

Might be in the minority here, but I have pretty low standards for holidays. I think the idea of people just taking little excuses to celebrate is pretty great, and a nice way to break up routine. Don't think I'd call a holiday pointless unless there's genuinely nobody interested in celebrating it, and there's probably somebody out there :derp:. I used to think Groundhog's Day was cool when I was younger, and I still think it's interesting that Leif Erikson day is a thing.

With that in mind, Columbus shouldn't have anything named after him.
