Why does everyone hate Prius?

~Sugar Sprinkles~

Recommended Posts

It just occurred to me by seeing a few jokes on the internet about the Prius. Now, I am curious as to what people have to say. I honestly do not know why its so hate-able.

So, why do people hate the Prius? I honestly see nothing wrong with it. I mean, I am no car expert or own a Prius, but to me, they just look like every other car and actually look kind of nice and fancy. I really don't hate any vehicles or any car company, because I am not no car monkey.

Like, is there anything wrong about the Prius? Do problems occur a lot? Is the gas mileage or gas tank bad? Does it malfunction? I just want to know answers why its sooo hated. Lol.

Part of it, stems from a comedy routine years ago by a ventriloquist by the name of Jeff Dunham. It's not too hard to find on YouTube.

Part of it, stems from the way Toyota went about it. Instead of taking the technology and adapting it for a vehicle they already had, they created a vehicle that screams experimental and different. In that sense, it has no real style, and is mainly built for functionality.

Part of it, is that the components are more expensive, and more difficult to repair than typical gasoline vehicles. For instance, the battery used in them can cost $5,000 or more just for the part alone. That said battery is also very acidic and dangerous to the environment, where any plant matter that comes in contact with the battery acid will immediately die, and pollute the earth.

Basically, the problem with the Prius is just because it is what it is. Had Toyota created a hybrid out of a car they had already, it wouldn't have been such a big deal.

It does look very similar to a smart car, just not as small xD haha. I really don't care, not to say I'd ever own a Prius,,..i'd prefer an older hot rod from the 60s or something.

I guess that makes a lot of sense. I do remember the Jeff Dunham one. That was like his most famous joke xD

But thanks for the info.

Thought that was SUVs? But I guess SUVs are "cool" now.

That Prius probably has more miles on it than every one of those Lambos combined. Just sayin'.

Its a hybrid made by toyota.

Toyota is a good brand but that car looks absolute ridiculous.

The interior is also very ugly.

The build materials are cheap hard plastic.

Plus the powertrain is by far the worst. (a really ugly 1.4 liter 4 cylinder hybrid )

Toyota has been using the same motor for over a decade.

There is no innovation in that car.

Its simply just a basic hybrid sedan designed for purpose only.

Your probably better off with a fusion hybrid or a avalon hybrid.

The reason why is because of the people who drive them. When hybrids first arrived on the market they were touted as the cars that could "Save the planet" and everyone who didnt buy one hated the earth. When in actuality the Prius does more harm to the enviroment before it is even assembled. The metals that go in to the batteres come from mines all over the world and cost a fair amount of money to be refined for their intended purpose.

This led to bouts of Eco-Terrorists vandalizing people's SUVs by throwing paint on them or damaging them. How fair is that?

The real issue is in the practicality. When the Prius was first introduced it cost upwards of $35,000 and only got 27-28 MPG. The Toyota Corolla costs around $15,000 and got 26 MPG. The issue that people who rushed and bought Hybrids were terribly misinformed about the real capabilites of their vehicles without first checking the facts.

The other issue was when politicians decided to get involved and gave tax breaks to owners of hybrid vehicles. Generally speaking if you can afford a hybrid you dont need a tax break.

In some areas you are actually charged an emissions tax because you dont drive a hybrid. What sense does that make?

Now that the Prius has been on the market for some time now the price has gone down and the performance has gotten even better due to improvments on the technology. The Prius now sells for around $20,000 and gets 50 MPG. That being said i still wouldnt buy one. I drove the Prius and its Lexus twin the Lexus HS. They are ..... different to drive. The engine cuts off when you are not driving and it makes you think that the car has stalled. You then reach for the power button and turn the car off thinking you are turning it on. The gear shift is about the size of your thumb (seriously) and the pattern is awkward. The instrument panel is offset to the right which is annoying and overall it is a boring nerd fest. Cars are supposed to be fun and the Prius litterally sucks all the fun out of driving.

Toyota recently launched a plug in version of the Prius and i am a strong proponet of Plug in EVs. But the plug in Prius is not a true electric car, it is just a Prius with the added benefits of an EV which means you still have to buy gas. It touts fuel economy of 95 MPG  when EV and Hybrid modes are both used in tandem.

Personally if i had the money and i really cared about alternative fuels i would go for the more expensive Nissan Leaf as it is a true EV and that means i never worry about gas prices. But the Plug in Prius would be the only one i would consider. The Prius C and other variants are way too small an ugly.

FACT: If you flash the ECU on a Prius, you will unlock 900 lb.-ft. of torque. The front end can't handle that power though.

Someone I know did that, threw some slicks on the front and pulled a 9 second quarter mile time.

I'm no car guy, and I don't care one way or the other, but I have a friend who is major car guy, and basically he said this exact thing about the battery and all that.  So, yeah, it doesn't sound like a very good or environment-friendly car.  But all the jokes about Prius drivers seem silly to me.

I think one of the reasons people don't like them has to do more with some of the douchey people who drive them. Don't get me wrong. If you own a Prius because that's what you wanted to drive, it doesn't necessarily mean you're a douche. However, if you're one of these people who think they're practically a saint because they're "saving the planet" because you drive a Prius, then yes, you are a douche. Bitch, you're still driving a car, aren't you? Try dumping out the majority of your appliances, cut down on the amount of water you use and start walking to the corner store before you get this smug-ass, holier than thou position on how great you are.

There are far better ways to save the planet than the Prius. it looks unimaginative, is hidiously inefficient and isn't worth the resources it takes to make the damn things.

If they truly cared about "saving the planet" when they made this worthless piece of scrap they could have done something like offered an option to have a hybird engine in any of there other cars or something :P

The Prius is an ugly roach car that always causes me problems on the road. My first accident a Prius hit me from behind. They are evil and they need to stop production.

It is one of those things where people seem to hate a lot of the people who drive them more than the actual car itself. The Prius had and still has a reputation as the ultimate hipster car with some very vocal drivers of it acting like self righteous douche bags. This of course dosen't mean that everyone that drives a Prius is like this but oftentimes it is t he doucheiest voices that are the loudest. For me personally I don't like the Prius because I don't small cars in general both because I am 6 feet tall and weigh 330 pounds and because if you get in an accident with a smaller car like that you are much more likely to uh what is the word? DIE!!! I honestly look at Priuses and many other small cars and seriously wonder how the hell anyone is able to fit in them? I am being completely and totally serious, I find it ironic how even American cars are getting smaller and smaller while Americans are getting bigger and bigger (obesity crisis anyone?).

Let me introduce you to a car that was also made by Toyota:

Toyota-TS040-Hybrid-Racer-6-620x350.jpg

The TS040 Hybrid.

Toyota won the World Endurance Championship this year, defeating Audi and Porsche, the first time a Japanese constructor had won, that includes the old World Sportscar Championship. The engine is a 3.7L V8, with a motor generator unit on both the front and rear axle for a temporary AWD system (similar to Audi's R18 e-tron Quattro) mated to a 7-speed transaxle.

The engine develops around 580 HP. However, the onboard supercapacitor can send 300 more horsepower to the wheels. That means that this car is the most powerful prototype since the old Group C days.

Their results for this year is 5 wins, with a podium finish in all 8 races. They netted 289 points, earning them the constructors title with Anthony Davidson and Sebastian Buemi winning the drivers championship.

So, the same sort of thinking and technology that went into this car can be traced back to a car that actually does more harm to the environment than it's worth, it's drivers are smug assholes, and it makes everyone think that hybrids are hateful, greenie-weenie, egg-shaped, boring as fuck, dejecting, snot-boxes for people who only see a car as a means getting to and from places they need to be.

Dammit...
