Could Applejack just really be Rainbow Dash in a weird way?

Okay, hi everyone, I'm new here, but there has been something I've been thinking about these past couple of days.

Alright, I'll start with the beginning. So, in Apple Family Reunion, we see Applejack paranoid over getting things right and makes everything too perfect. And really the entire episode it seems like the reason for this is unclear, UNTIL (spoilers if you haven't seen the episode) where she looks upset about the two shooting stars which was kinda confirmed on twitter that yes indeed that resembles her DEAD PARENTS...

But the thing where she loses the barn. Dang, all those memories. It had to have killed her, just how she thought she was doing great but she was doing it all wrong.

But anyways, I'm picking up the topic about her parents. So, she is obviously the middle child, and their granny is really just kind of there because she is still living and it wouldn't look good for the show for three siblings to be living together and it would look like apple bloom is AJ's and Big Macs daughter, even tho it kinda looks like that already.

But what I'm getting at is that their Granny cannot really watch or take care of them, Big Mac is extremely introverted and there is no way he could practically raise a family, and AppleBloom is wayyyy too little, of course the job went to Applejack.

So Applejack was forced to run a farm, raise a family, and do it all at a extremely young age, making her realize the important and unimportant things. That makes her so down to earth. She is extremely athletic, well she runs a farm, and she has obviously raised a child practically from birth, resulting in such a motherly bond with her and she is terrified of losing her (as seen in the zecora episode, and Somepony to Watch Over Me) because she would lose her family and dignitary.

Why she is so stubborn? I'm pondering that, and maybe it's because she has had to think of everything herself and do everything herself, so when Somepony else suggests something, she finds it hard to accept (Apple Bucking Season) . Also in bats, where she cannot accept Fluttershy's offer because she thinks her idea is the best.

And then her honesty just has to come from the loss of her parents and she has to be honest to people otherwise nothing will get done.

So, my theory is, if you took those elements away from her, bam, you have Rainbow Dash.

They're both so alike already, but if you took all the things I mentioned above and take them away, it really would result in Rainbow Dash. The way Rainbow Dash acts to Scootaloo and saves her and tells her that she used to be afraid of those stories, too, it's different than Applejack's and Apple Blooms simply because Applejack has been a step in mom to Apple Bloom, but still a better realtionship than Rarity and Sweetie Belle, even though I think they're awesome as well.

What do you think of that? I'm sorry that that probably made absolutely no sense, but if it did, congratulations to you!

Sort of. What you've said is kind of true, but AJ and Dashie are still pretty different.

Applejack has an easy job and is straightforward with life, but Rainbow is more willing to take risks and has big ambitions. Applejack is more family-oriented, while Rainbow usually likes to do things on her own. Applejack keeps her pride to herself, while Rainbow flaunts her pride. Applejack is calm-headed and enjoys a friendly competition, whereas Rainbow hates losing and sees a lot of fun things as a challenge.

I'd be rather hesitant to call Applejack just another Rainbow Dash. To me, what makes a character feel like an individual is if they have a backstory, a personality and a goal. Both the backstory and their goal affect a characters personality in a way, and Applejack and Rainbow have pretty different backstories. Applejack had to grow up quickly because of her deceased parents, but Rainbow grew up quickly because she loves to fly and wants to be like her idols. If they didn't have a backstory or a goal, then that's when it seems like they almost the same pony.

Yeah I get that they're extremely different, but what would AJ be like if all of that hadn't happened to her?!?! #cliffhanger

I know they would still be extremely different, but they're the most similar in the show and just how much more alike could

they possibly be considering what AJ had to do so young?

But i don't agree that AJ has an easier life, she has had SOOO much responsibility where no offense but RD is usually sleepin

Have you seen season 1 episode 23 The Cutie Mark Chronicles?  I think Dash is more like what AJ was like when she was younger.  (Although D is more of a showoff)  I come from a large family & so did most of my friends (we Baby Boomers tended to).  AJ is more a typical Oldest Child in terms of personality, she is NOT a typical Middle Child. Dash has Baby Of The Family written all over her.

Why would you think extroverts are any better at raising children than introverts?

Besides which, Applejack did leave the farm to go live in Manehatten for a while, apparently leaving Apple Bloom with Big Mac and Granny Smith.

So, my theory is, if you took those elements away from her, bam, you have Rainbow Dash.

I agree that AJ and Dashie have a lot in common. This is probably why they have such an intense (but usually friendly) rivalry. This rivalry can be seen most clearly in Fall Weather Friends (the Iron Pony competition and the running of the leaves), Over a Barrel (they take opposing sides in the fight over Appleloosa), and Castle Mane-ia (AJ and Dashie compete for the title of Most Daring Pony).

Then you throw Rarity into the mix.  She doesn't get on well with AJ & to a lesser extent she isn't super great friends with Dash, either. Really, the only  main reason these 3 get along at all is they are all BPFs with Twilight.  They are spokes on a wheel, she is the hub.  Without her, I'm sure they would drift apart

Although, they would all still be friends with Pinkie & Fluttershy

Not so solid on Applejack. Rarity and Rainbow Dash appear to have already been friends with her before Twilight showed up and Pinkie Pie is an acquaintance to everyone, but Flutters' and AJ's interactions have always been sort of distant and strained. They probably knew about each other, but I doubt they were close at all.

Edit:

Back on topic, I say some of AJ's behavior is upbringing and some of it is, well, just personality.

And then her honesty just has to come from the loss of her parents and she has to be honest to people otherwise nothing will get done.

My parents are alive and well, but I've always abided by similar philosophies like "people like you much more if you're proactive, upfront, and honest about problems". Rainbow Dash, meanwhile, doesn't see her brashness as a moral thing. She just tends to spill out whatever's on her brain.

I grew up in a real small town.  In a small town, you basically know everybody in school with you because, well, there aren't that many kids to play with & you meet them or somebody who is related to them, or friends w somebody that lives near them, etc.

Rarity was born in Ponyville (Sweet & Elite) &, IMO, she is about AJs age & was at school about the same time.  So, they knew each other.  I'm basing my opinion that they didn't get on well together on their behavior in "Look Before You Sleep"

It is my head canon that they had a run in or 2 at school (possibly over some stallion).  AJ is a rodeo champ & probably started as a foal.  Rarity was in theater & strikes me as the sort who worried about her hoof polish matching her lipstick, etc.  Plus town kids & farm kids just don't hang out together (unless, like the CMCs, they've got a common interest).  In short, they were in different cliques & just weren't close.

Without Twilight, I don't think they ever would have been close.

As for AJ & Fluttershy not being close, that makes sense.  Farmers are just NOT all thrilled about critters eating their crops.  In season 4 episode 7, they got it exactly right.  The Green types (like F) are all "preserve the wild animals" & farmers are "They are eating my livelihood.  They are evil & must go"

At our basic core, many people can be nearly exactly the same if you take them by their center personality alone. That's just how personality works - how we get stereotypes, how we get similar characteristics. It is indeed upbringing and other experiences that drift us away from each other.

This is the case with Applejack and Rainbow Dash. The two of them are extraverted and not afraid to get down and dirty, but Applejack is a lot more down to earth because of her upbringing whereas Rainbow is wild. Sure if you took Applejack's experiences away from her she would probably be very similar to Rainbow Dash, but you could say that about a lot of ponies. Take away Luna's little sister complex and she's not that different from Celestia, for example.

I think they are pretty similar but the main difference is AJ is quite a humble pony and Dashie is arrogant I love it though don't get me wrong :P
