About coping with the theme song...

Hi

I didn't know in which section to put this, I hope this belongs here :)

I know there are people who watch the theme song every time and enjoy it, but there are also people who skip it, and I am one of them. Unfortunately, FiM creators decided to have a cold opening, then the theme song, and then the main part of the episode. I own .mkv episode videos bought from iTunes and I've already tried some methods to skip the song. And I'll tell you - if there wasn't the cold opening, it would be easy - I'd just delay the tracks with mkvmerge GUI. Having an unwanted fragment in the MIDDLE complicates things sooo much.

mkvmerge GUI is a great tool, but it doesn't support delaying tracks in the middle, nor auto-skipping selected chapters (then I could just make the theme song a chapter and force it to be skipped). So I tried an alpha-stage tool called MkvCutter. It seemed fine - it can trim a custom frame selection from whatever part of the video you want, but somethimes a stutter/freeze would randomly be created near the cut-out theme song in the output video. Well, maybe the original encoding of these videos is a bit faulty, so I tried Handbrake to re-encode the whole video, and then cut it with MkvCutter. Unfortunately, stutters were still sometimes created. Handbrake also doesn't support omitting fragment from the middle - only from beginning or end.

I'm gonna try re-encoding cold opening and main part separately and then appending them with mkvmerge GUI - I hope it will work.

So, I'd like to ask people who don't like theme song interrupting each and every episode every single time - do you have any methods to skip it automatically? Or do you just manually fast-forward through it? Or could you recommend some software that could do this flawlessly?

To me it just doesn't seem to be a huge deal. If I don't wanna watch it, I just skip forward until I find the end. It takes all of ten seconds or less to find the end of the opening so it's not really necessary to find special software to do it or something.

When the opening's going on I use that time to post something on a forum. If I don't have anything to post, I just skip ahead.

I don't get, sure theme song not best thing listen at but ant that bad either, but gauss maby is to cheerfull for some people. I don't really know. I just late play and in mine while i either just watch it our go and grab something from food cabin. But if people have problems with then yes, you could just easily skip it.

I am okay with it, some day i even enjoy listening to hole thing, just it just make feel good inside.  ^_^

Of course this all depending on the mood am in, some times just want to get on with watching the episode.

Aspicaly if on show watching spray, and watching whole series in one go, then most likely going skip the intro.

I'll admit to trying to skip the intro quite a few times. It's harder to do it when you're watching it streaming online, especially with a slow or inconsistent Internet connection, or on a slow device. However, for ripped videos, I would use Windows Movie Maker to split and cut out the video.

I did once try to make a short edit of an episode where I actually replaced the intro with a new one I edited and made myself using WMM.

Well that give an other feeling to show intro, but is fitting? I just don't know...

The episode I edited was "The Crystal Empire", and I edited it so that it would have more emphasis on Twilight's subplot, so it kinda worked for me. ^_^

Yeah, this is one of the reasons why I adore G3 - it doesn't even have an opening for the majority of its episodes, and when it does, it's never a cold one.

I usually manually skip the intro for time saving reasons, although the song itself it quite cute.

The 1st 100 times (or so) you listen to the intro, it's not too bad.  After that, Iduno, it kind of wears thin, somehow.  Being a techno illiterate, I just fast forward about 30 seconds.  The problem is, it's not in the same place each time, but varies, so you can't just set the timer to deal with it

I would see why not many people like the theme song. I'm indifferent to it myself, but it does get a little stale after the 150th time.

I wouldn't look too close to the cold opening and audio fading, however. Honestly, the real reason that MLP:FiM has cold openings is to catch a viewers attention. You should rather focus on the story and keeping your audience intrigued rather than say that cold openings are bad simply because of an audio fade in.

I rather like the theme song it's fun, the only time I dislike the theme song is when I see those brony con type videos and all those out of tune guys sing along to it, it's unbearable and embarrassing, but I digress

Anyway as others have said, it's only 30 seconds or so and it's easy to mute or skip past that part

Honestly, I rather like the theme song! The only times I can remember skipping it is if I'm in a rush to see the episode. I can see why people would skip it, it is rather girly, and it can get old after awhile.

If you've got something that gives you a preview as you fast forward, then fast forward as soon as you hear "My Little..." And then stop when you see "Created for Television by Lauren Faust". It worked fine for me when I originally binge watched the series on Netflix.
