Please help, I'm busting my head over this

Plato's Pony

Recommended Posts

Okay, I've been busting my brains over the question whether MLP characters' frontal angles (or front mugshot) are perspectively (I know it's not a real word) incorrect.  I've done a lot of drawing with ponies (please don't move this to art forum) but I have never drawn them facing the viewer; only facing sideways.  So, are their frontal views incorrect, and if so, what would they look like if they were perspectively correct?

I think this capture from one of the episodes is all wrong, their faces resemble human beings with their noses being these little nubs stuck into their faces.  PONIES HAVE MUZZLES!!!  They should resemble dogs more than humans.

In my opinion, their faces should resemble that of a German Shepherd (seriously, if you take out their manes/wings/horns they look exactly like German Shepherds with skinnier necks).

Please, someone provide me with a design of what I call a "perspectively correct" pony.  I know this is weird, but it's driving me crazy.  And, DON'T MOVE THIS THREAD!!

Now, THIS is the kind of thing I'm loooking for:

Notice how you can see her muzzle, and she doesn't look weird.

Hey MLP Enthusiast, I know that you desperately want this to remain in the fandom discussion forum, but you ARE asking a question regarding art ... specifically perspective I believe. You will get informed answers in Octavia's Hall.

Also, there are a multitude of short snout/muzzled animals. Maybe looking for a different resource?

Technically, the cleft in between their eyes represents muzzles. In all actuality, the nightmare moon picture is more resemblance to a human than the former, you could broaden the shoulders a little on the nightmare moon one, and it would a woman with insanely large eyes.

I was just going to mention what I thought of as the arch between and slightly below the eyes. This has always made me think of their dainty  muzzles from head on. Also about Nightmare Moon. Remember, the guard on her helmet is also obscuring her muzzle somewhat.
