gaming How the Minecraft community has gotten worse.

I play a small role in a gaming community.

And that gaming community is none other than the Minecraft community which is one of the most popular if not the most popular gaming community out there today.

I just post minecraft seeds on this one little MC community, so I'm not involved that much.

Now the game itself in my opinion, is getting much better with all the features they've been adding.

But in my opinion, the actual community surrounding the game is getting worse.

And I'm here to explain how.

1. Allot of Minecraft YouTubers are only doing what the majority audience wants rather than what they actually want to do in Minecraft. Now I'm not going to start pointing fingers, but it's true for some MC YouTubers. Now why would they only do what their audience wants? Well it's very simple. Because they'll gain more views. And more views means more money. When's the last time you've seen an MC YouTuber post an ACTUAL vanilla lets play? Not in a LONG time has any of the big name MC YouTubers posted a vanilla lets play. Why? Because that's what all the other YouTubers are doing for lots of views and it's what the audience wants. I guarantee that some of them in their heads are like "Ugh. I don't want to go on another server and play Cops and Robbers. I want to do a survival." They're slaves to their own fans.

2. Little, annoying, racist, prejudice, homophobic, 12 year old, trolls. You can thank Xbox Live for letting these little vermin into the MC community. Before the Xbox edition came out, you'd almost never seen someone acting like this on a PC server or on a MC website. People were actually MATURE. You also can thank the Call of Duty franchise for creating these little bastards.

I used to be addicted to minecraft, but it really bored me and I left it in, idk, when emerald was added, it's not the same, it doesn't feel like before

You gave up the game because they added that little detail?

It's just an ore you trade with villagers.

And I thought I was a picky gamer.

I never said I left because emerald, I said I left when that update came, not because the ore, the game simply wasn't the same, idk, it felt different and I stopped playing it

I agree. I remember playin' MC when it was in it's rather young state and the community was chill and mature. That time has gone like you said.

One thing that has kinda changed MC in my opinion on it is the mods and modpacks that came out. Pushin' what MC can do and I think peeked alot of peoples interest cause of how much was added over the vanilla game. I'll be honest, I don't play the vanilla game anymore either cause it's so dull now compared to what mods can do, but I do agree that in the past years, the community has gone downhill pretty rapid.

Well I beg to differ.

That update is actually known for being one of the smaller updates among the others.

In my opinion it hardly changed the feel of the game.

The only main things that were added when emerald came along were horses, witches (including the witches' hut), the Wither Boss, and just a couple new electronics.

Not much was changed.

Fairly enough, I still do enjoy Minecraft, again, I must agree with you that Minecraft in general has gotten worse. They were fine with update 1.6, then they were good.

I still record Minecraft for my channel, not so often as I used to, however, there are still many things to find entertaining.

I have kinda jumped from the Minecraft community to here, in fact, because I like Minecraft is the reason I became a brony, so I should forever be devoted.

And I do enjoy watching a good modded survival.

BUT MC YouTubers have GOT to stop copying each other when it comes to these things.

I mean Feed the Beast has already been done people.

Do something else.

Something new.

Something original.

What I'd REALLY like to see is for a YouTuber to do a survival with JUST the Biomes O' Plenty mod.

No other mods attached unless it's something like Optifine to stabilize the game.

I actually said quite the opposite.

I actually LOVE the new features they've put into the game.

I only complained about the community.

That'd be pretty cool and i'd like to see stuff like that as well. Youtube vids of FTB, Tekkit, Technic, and all other modpacks are in over-abundance at this point. I'd like to see more individual mods be played in survival aspect. Like 3-4 mods, not more of the modpacks with over 100 mods.

Vanilla Minecraft is extremely formulaic anyways. Call me uncreative, but my new playthroughs consist of me punching a few trees, crafting the essentials, making either a wooden house or a hole in a hill or a mountain, getting enough materials while surviving, building a better home, gaining an effecient source of food, etc. After a while I become bored, make a new world sometime later, and then the cycle continues.

That's what I'm sayin'.

Picture Minecraft as a cake.

The cake alone becomes stale, but that's why you have frosting.

Frosting representing mods.

Now frosting is meant to enchance the cake just like mods are to modify minecraft.

But if you put too much frosting on the cake it becomes oversaturated and it's no longer a cake.

It's just a glob of frosting with a little bit of bread in the middle.

Same with Minecraft.

Too many mods and the game looses originality.

Plus, it seems like allot of the mods in these big name modded survival packs make the game easier.

Which is the ultimate put-down of Minecraft's originality.

Which is to be hard.

Biomes O' Plenty alone would be insanely hard.

One of the main challenges in that mod is to go to the End, gather up Endstone, and kill the Enderdragon JUST to make a part of a staff that opens up a portal to Heaven.

But of course with all these modpacks it's very easy to do that.

I play pocket edition so I'm stuck in my own little (infinite) world. XD

I guess that's just something that tends to happen with fan communities. Personally, I try to avoid being jerkish and keep to myself...it's just not right to be jerkish about it all.

I haven't taken part in, nor do I wish to take part in the Minecraft community, but to me, it doesn't seem to be in a nice place at the moment, especially due to the legal issues of Bukkit.

I agree that too many Youtubers are doing the same old thing too much, it's kinda why I don't make minecraft videos.

Although situations have somewhat improved with Mojang saying you can't pay to win, how efficiently that rule is being enforced is another story.  But I do dislike the concept of pay to win, especially because that shouldn't be why people donate to your server, people should make a donation if they feel your server is good, not to get full quantum armor and red matter tools a day after they join for the first time.

I haven't participated or observed the Minecraft Community as a whole extensively, but I just hope the situation improves.

Also, the only Minecraft Let's Plays I watch are Achievement Hunter's as, for the most part, it's something different every let's play, and it's not just them screwing around in survival mode.

Forgot to include this above, I have only played Minecraft for over a year..

Aww that's unfortunate to here.

It doesn't discourage me from wanting to get the game and play it myself (I'm already a fan, and I've never played, my mom bought me an enderman plushie as an early b-day gift), especially since I'll likely only play it by myself. But it's said to hear the veteran fans are having a hard time.

I've actually considered doing an MC Let's Play.

I'm sure it wouldn't be that popular since it'll just be me piddling around doing whatever I want and learning how things work. But that's what I like to watch others do. X3

But you're not forced to encounter any people you don't like.

I can appreciate that you don't like a subsection of the community, but there's no way you'll interact with them if you don't want to.

Also, YouTubers doing as their fans desire isn't anything strange--that's how they exist. There may be a point at which they don't wish to do as their fans might, but that's for them to decide.

I only don't play vanilla anymore because I find the mods more interesting.

I find that one of the worst things about servers is the survival areas where you basically survive with everyone else in one world.

Oh how I remember the days without little 11 year old griefers screwing up your house.

That was not a worry back in the early days.

People actually left each other alone in the survival world.

When little trolls started griefing and starting chaos mods and admins put a new feature out where basically you can claim territory and no one could build or destroy blocks in your territory.

The problem was people claimed too much territory.

You'd have to walk from biome to biome to biome to find some place that no one owned so you could build and survive.

But still, even with this rule griefers found a way to screw up people's builds.

Not only that, but other people sometimes make really crappy builds and abandon them.

And then the entire survival world become one giant wasteland do to all these things people do.

But you're not forced to encounter any people you don't like.

The people I don't like encounter me.

I don't encounter them.

I'm an online MC seed poster and I get tons of crap from little children all the time.

"There isn't diamonds under spawn you faggot."

That's what I get on a daily basis.

Immature and rude comments from people within the community.

Did I ask for them?

No I didn't.

My point about the YouTubers is that some of them are doing their job just for money.

I highly doubt allot of them truly enjoy playing minigames on servers because that's what they've done for a long time and it's getting insanely repetitive.

And the only thing that is driving them to play minigames over and over again is a paycheck by YouTube.

Well . . . yes. That was likely the idea they had in mind when they started.

I'm not sure I understand his problem, even if their doing it for the money, what does it matter as long as they make good vids?

I don't think it matter at all, their able to take something they ove to do and make it into a career, that's an enviable position and I'm happy for people who get to do it.

the minecraft community is fine, all groups have the occasional hiccup.
