Is Fallout: Equestria worth my time?

If you want some opinions on the fix, it MIGHT be worth your time to check out this thread: http://mlpforums.com/topic/82719-fallout-equestria-what-do-you-think-of-it-spoilers/ Be sure to use the search function; it can be handy. :)

Of course watch out for spoilers, but most seem to really like the fic. I've never read it myself as I don't have the time to devote to reading fanfics. However, it comes recommended from a number of people.

I would definitely recommend it as I am a fan of Fallout and obviously My Little Pony. However, if you're not into stuff like Fallout and you're just in it for the ponies it might not be the best fit but basically you can read the first few chapters and if it's not your scene then you can just drop it or if you do like it keep reading but I would say it's worth the time and effort. Better question is Fallout Equestria: Project Horzines worth it (70 Chapters and still going)

Hahaha, no. It's not. If you want to do RP's and crap dealing with it, go ahead, but the actual fic is pretty... generic. It's not worth the time to read.

Not to mention, it made me start hating pretty much every fan creation in this fandom.

Because you can't make something better capable of creating a sub-fandom of it's own? Do tell us what's so generic about it.

It's really good imo... I mean I read the thing 2 years ago and still remember stuff about it, so it can sure leave a long-lasting impression. So, if you have the time, I would recommend it. :)

wat, that one's still going? The original was enough for me, that just seems like way too much... :o

Guys, let's remain civil here. I'd like to keep this topic open for anyone curious about the fic. :)

I had to hide some posts. Let's just keep the idea of the topic at hand. If you feel the need to discuss the fic, then do so without resorting to insults or provocation; thank you.

Yes.

I'm shamelessly on the boat of people who loved the shit out of it. I read it over the summer, and became fully engrossed and determined to read until the end by the time chapter twenty-one rolled along. Luckily, all the surprises and twists never got stale for me.

As the title implies, is the fan fic worth my time in order to read it. I don't doubt that it will be good, i'm just saying, it's super long and I wonder if making that commitment will be worth it.

I never played the games so I'll never read it.

So I wouldn't know.

Let me tell you something. I was, at first, reluctant to give the fandom a try. I didn't hate on bronies, but i didn't think it was for me. Now, fallout was and still is one of my favorite video game franchises ever, and a link to FO:E was given to me by a friend.

I was a bit skeptic at first, but i loved it so much it even convinced me to give the show a good look. It didn't turn me into a brony per se, but it helped me discover a little about the show, enough to whet my appetite.

Now as for the story itself; it's not fully overlapping with known fallout titles, but it does take many elements from both FO1 and FO2, as well as FO3. It's a long and tedious read, but it's very engaging and intriguing, filled with enough mystery, suspense, and humor (either dark or light in varying amounts) to make for a worthy read. I'll tell it to you straight, if you have the time to invest in a read, this is probably one of the best works of fanfiction iv'e seen emerge, not just from this fandom but anywhere.

Iv'e recently picked up Project Horizons, an ongoing work some consider it's successor (not a sequel per se, but a work derived and inspired by the original), and it's also very interesting. I'm only on chapter 19 so i can't tell you too much.

Anyway, i think that if you've the patience for a long epic of adventure, tragedy, action and the like, you'll probably enjoy FO:E.

Very much yes! Fallout Equestria is a fantastic work of fiction, easily worth your time. Its length may be daunting at first, but the same goes for any TV show with a few seasons under its belt. Once you get into it, you'll quickly find that it earns its length. You'll actually be begging for more once you finish it, if you can believe that.

What the hell? 70 chapters?! Jesus Christ.

Project Horizons is a... problematic work. But in the interest of remaining civil, I recommend the first 16 chapters of PH, and nothing past that. And if you want to maintain your respect for those 16 (fairly great) chapters, I suggest one not dig too deeply into the author. You may not like what you find.

Well, I attempted to read it, but it's not in fimfiction where I can keep track of read chapters, and with a fic that long, it's easy for me to lose track. Maybe someday I'll give an eye, but not now.

It's been added to fimfiction.

  • 3 weeks later...

I must agree with the masses on this one. When I first became a Brony my friend who had been a Brony(and got me introduced/hooked on the the show) for a long time told me that I had to read Fallout: Equestria because it was one of the best fan written stories he had ever read.

I looked at the length and I thought he had lost his ever loving mind! I hymed and hawed for a long time until about two weeks ago when I finally bit the bullet and started reading the story. I got a little lucky though, I found a halfway decent reading of first 25 chapters of the book on youtube and began listening to the story and following along with the written text. The first night I did that I spent 16 hours listening/reading and managed a meager 2 hours of sleep before work! I then spent the next week reading like a crazy person! I was on an adrenaline high the entire time I was reading it because it was just so intense. You really get into the characters and you will find that you associate with one character or another the most.

I won't ruin the story for anyone who hasn't read it all but let me just say.....Red Eye is probably by far the most well written villain I have come across to date. Why? He never makes a mistake and has it almost perfectly planned out, his only folly is underestimating his opponent and even that was by the narrowest of margins.

I will also mention that the story is in need of a well directed multi-layered cast to turn it into an audio book so that people who want to read it but just don'e have the ability to commit that much time can just listen to the story. Currently I have yet to find something like this and I have decided(against my better judgment) to take on said project. Just because the story is so awesome and their are so many people who would enjoy it!

If you haven't guessed it yet...it's long

Personally I have yet to read the full length of it. I like the story in general and if you're into the whole post apocalyptic cataclysm thing set in a IDIC future world that was known as Equestria and it's inhabitant survivors. Then yes, feel free to take the time and effort.

But while I liked the first twenty or so chapters the story itself imho starts to dry out and things only happen because the author wants them too and gets too clouded and clunky, smothering itself in it's own B.S. to make sense. But again that's my personal take from it.

I suggest that you read the first 20 or so chapters then deside for yourself from there.
