Chlorine gas Incident at Midwest Furfest in Chicago

So, this past weekend there was a Furry convention called "Midwest Furfest" in Chicago.

Article Here:

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/12/19-hospitalized-after-intentional-release-of-chlorine-gas-at-chicago-furry-animal-character-confab/

Not only was this intentional, but it also hospitalized 19 Patrons that attended the convention.

What I'm wanting to know is who did it and why?

What kind of sick minded person would intentionally set off a chlorine gas attack to a hotel of innocent people, enjoying an innocent get together?

Was it a hate fueled attack?

To be honest, I was blown away when I first read about this on a local furry Facebook group. There were thousands of attendees at this place. What is the world coming to?

I know this isn't pony related, but something like this could possibly happen at any sort of convention. Somebody could've been killed.

Honestly. What. The. Fuck.

Police are looking into it, so far no suspects have been reported.

(Mods feel free to move this to Debate pit if needed)

I saw a friend of mine post this on Facebook(don't know if she attended or not).

I think what's more sick than the incident(not to downplay the seriousness) is the fact that there were a lot of people commenting on how it was a good thing and that "all those sick furries need to die"

The people who wish death on others who's only crime is having a fucking hobby are as just as much of a sick shitbag as whoever was responsible for this incident

I've read about this recently how it was a hate on attack towards furries

I understand we all don't like a certain amount of people or interests out there, but killing or harming others is never the way

Yeah, furries are admittedly, odd, but using chlorine gas to them is unnecessary and rude

Well, it's about time something like this happened. We can't go letting the elementary schoolers have all the fun, can we? That wouldn't be right.

I'm being totally sarcastic here, just in case anyone's confused.

...What the fuck, human race? Has our hate for "non-normals" such as furries come this far? Furries aren't the problem. It's these extremists who want to show how anypony outside of the norm is, in their eyes, "sick and needing to die".

My solution: MORE RIGHTS. AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS.

It's amazing how absolutely hypocritical these haters are. That's why we know they're terrible people whose opinions have no validity.

They rag on us for having no lives and strange fetishes, and then you have some asshole like this who takes it to the next level. Attacking others who have done no wrong to you, especially when there are many more serious issues in the world, speaks to your own personal deficiency and unfitness to be a member of a functional, productive society. That's a person who really needs to get a life.

If they find this bastard, I hope they hit him with the highest charge and maximum sentence they can. There is no excuse for this. This can go for assault and possible attempted murder.

If going to a Chicago jail was his aspiration in life, he probably damn well succeeded.

This... This sickens me.

Some cowards would be willing to do... this.

If they have that level of sickeningly unbridled hatred, why not take up arms and actually fight in the open?! If they wish to live and believe and fight and die like the crusaders of old, then why not actually fight like one, instead of adopting the cowardly, pathetic, unquestionably evil tactics of modern terrorists?! Do they not see that in committing such a crime against a HOTEL FULL OF PEOPLE, they are no better than a common terrorist committing such a crime against another hotel or other building full of people?! (Though not the 911 one, that one was bigger.)

Every. Single. Person. Involved in this needs to be brought to justice. Not murdered, not beaten to a pulp, not locked away in a cushy half-prison half-daycare or given chlorine gas, they need to be brought to justice. On an unrelated note, for legal reasons, I will not say that anyone with access to social media should post screencaps, with names, of every bastard who posted that this disgusting event could ever be considered good. I'm not saying we should publicly name and shame them, and add them to an online list of suspects of people suspected to be involved in this tragedy, circulating multiple copies and sharing them so the police couldn't take them down if they wanted to.

Now, time for a story.

I remember a time, a long time ago, when I heard a lot of bad things about Furries, and what the internet thought of them, and as a young and impressionable kid, I thought it'd be fun to pretend to be one and troll them by badly clopping with them. Very, very badly. I was young, and that was the least-stupid thing on the list of approved trolling methods I found after ten seconds of googlesearching. Much to my surprise, once I entered, I found good people mixed in amongst the living stereotypes(And even the weird ones were only eyeroll-worthy, not vomit-inducing like the sites claimed), and they turned out to be a mostly okay bunch. I left because trolling them seemed like a stupid idea, and I wasn't a furry anyway. Regardless, this makes one think... That stereotype of the dumb furry with the weird pics on his phone and the persecution complex... Just how wrong was that stereotype?

This is pretty sick. I can't believe how people would do this or say the things they are saying just because they aren't into the things that others are into. This sounds to me like an Inside job, like someone who works at the hotel or works at the con planted this. I hope they catch the person or people who did this.

Well the problem is that people have diffrent views and where they were raised effects the decision making on a particular group or subject. In this case this person or people had been brought up in a terrible place and are thought to be masculine and not to like girly or wierd stuff. Although this isn't an excuse it unfortunately is how life is. To be honest they do this to get a reaction by God they completed it. Now security will be doubled no doubt and btw how on earth can someone get in with chlorine gas? I can only think it might be a staff member of the convention who don't got through security. I do hope the person is found and will have a life sentence, however it's just going to get worse and our hopes become more evil but life isn't going to be easy and the most awful stuff will happen. Society will never fully except furries trust me. Btw you can thank youtube for this "incident" since hate is on that site to.

I was horrified when I first heard about this. There is no justification for something like this, no matter how much you may not like furries of any kind. Hopefully when the police catch whoever did this they'll find that said person(s) were greatly mentally disturbed, because it would scare me even more if someone of a clear mind orchestrated all this, especially considering there were  likely families and children also staying at that hotel. I would even say this almost borders on a terroristic act.

A lot of horrible things have happened here in Chicago these past couple months....this has just added another one to the list :/

Not a lot of people really care here, probably because all we ever see on the news is another person shot by the cops or more murder....anyways I hope those who got hurt in the incident will be ok.

And trust me this isn't going to be solved any time soon.

Lets just call it what it is: Terrorism. I always knew people could and would do this if they were angry enough and seeing this article just proves it. There is now a high chance of this happening to any BronyCons. With all the hate out there I honestly wouldn't be surprised if I read about this somewhere in the near future as sad as it is.

This Is F***ing sick how a human can do this to another fell man even if they are furrys it does not matter they still are humans.

Also people who say "this is good" or "they deserved it" go look what Chlorine gas does. Here is what I found on a Government website

"Most Harmful Chlorine exposures are the result of inhalation. Health effects typically begin within seconds to minutes. Following

chlorine exposure, the most common symptoms are:

Airway irritation

Wheezing

Difficulty breathing

sore throat

cough

chest tightness

Eye Irritation

Skin Irritation"

I hope who did this get brought to justice of his crimes I hope he gets a life sentence.

On top of that, how many people who were staying there WERE NOT furries? How many families with children might be affected by that?

I said it once, and I'll say it again; Monsters like the person or people responsible for this don't deserve death or freedom.

This is a disgusting reaction to something that has ZERO impact on their own lives.

This is absolutely pathetic if it was hate fueled, they aren't harming anything or anyone in the slightest other than possibly offending what is "acceptable" in society. The people who do this are the ones who are the sick people, I wouldn't go so far as to say they need this to happen to them, but they really need to reflect on their own actions.

I just read the article. I know there's hate for furries. I've seen it. But that's over the line. Attempted. Murder. (Or something. Maybe this person doesn't know about what chlorine does? Highly unlikely that he/she doesn't, though.)

This person needs to learn how to love and tolerate. Very soon.

I'm scared of going to conventions like bronycon now.

I think I just said what everyone else said, looking back on the thread.
