What went through your mind as you knew you were becoming a brony?

"Oh gosh, I actually like this. I'm gonna have to hide this from my parents as if it was porn."

... I ended up not caring a couple days later, nor did my parents really care.

As someone who never understood why adults would watch My Little Pony till I tried watching FiM for myself, I guess I contemplated the irony of becoming a Brony given that I once told one to go outside after he claimed to have watched all the episodes and was unsure what he should do. I also figured that since I was enjoying the show I might as well accept the title placed upon fans of the show outside of their target demographic, because to not accept it would be to lie to myself.

Before viewing the first episode,

"This show is going to be terrible. But, I might as well see what all the hype is about. I'm tired and bored, what do I have to lose..."

As I finished my first episode (Bridle Gossip),

"That was... half-decent. But definitely not 'good'. Why is this popular? There are a couple quirky and slightly charming characters, and the setting is okay I guess... I suppose I'll watch another episode."

As I finished a couple more episodes,

"What is this... I'm growing an appreciation for this... Why do I kind of like this? There has to be a reason... I'm going online for answers."

As I first discovered fan content, such as some art, videos, and music,

"Wow... This fandom is incredibly talented... This art is amazing, this music is interesting, and these analysis videos are really making me think of the show in a different way. Maybe there is something special to this show..."

As I approached the end of Season 1,

"That's it. It has finally clicked for me. I understand the appeal and beauty of MLP... Pure and sincere positivity. That's what makes this show wonderful. All of the characters are interesting and unique in their own way. The setting is gorgeous, and there's an all-around charm that makes one feel good while watching. I can't believe it... I'm a brony..."

As I dived into the fandom full swing,

"I'm astounded. There is so much to view, so much to learn. This fandom is huge. I'm overwhelmed with all of the content. This is going to be a fun, exciting ride."

And a fun, exciting ride it has been indeed. :)

First heard MLP through a friend of mine and I'm intrigued. Then I watched S1E1. It's OK. Then 2, 3, 4, 5. Then Ep 6 comes in. Seeing Fluttershy, I was like: "I have this feeling... of joy. Oh god!"

But then Ep 6 finished and I was like:

"I AM SO INTO THIS!"

Let me just get this straight.

I became a Brony before I knew what a Brony was.

I first heard about the show when a group of girls on a Minecraft community app were making posts about this one show they liked.

I thought nothing of it at first, but then I began to question myself.

The show looked as if it were made for girls, but what if I watched it myself?

Would I like it?

I sat down on my bed with my iPod 5 and pulled up the very first episode on the dailymotion.com.

After the first episode I felt a sense of awkwardness.

I had just watched a show that I assumed was targeted toward girls and... I kinda liked it.

I would keep it a secret and never tell a living soul I was watching a girly show for entertainment purposes.

Eventually though, I found out about Bronies and so... here I am.

I live in Greenland, so the former generation never reached us. And I didn't knew about the fandom, so it was just another fun animated show for me. Like anime that I usually watch.

When I found out about the fandom, I got excited. But didn't delved into it. Dunno why. Probably I'm reclusive already and I wouldn't meet anypony anyway. Only recently did I try to get into the fandom. Like joining the dA groups and coming here.

Interesting question. You see, when i was becoming a brony i tried to convince myself i was seeing the show for "research". I was, at the time, reading FO:E, sent to me by a brony i met online a while ago... and found myself unable to keep wondering about those references to the show i can't get. When i started liking the show so much as i do now, i figured it's pointless to keep kidding myself. The rest is, as they say, history.

  • 2 weeks later...

1.) Hmmm... interesting series but...

2.) Hmmm... Give it another chance...

3.) Hmmm... Naw.... Just not me...

Repeat 2 and 3

4.) Record?

5.) Recording episodes digging out fan fic, searching for the story of Celest and Luna and the Luna/Nightmare story

6.) Going by the toy aisle and being stopped dead becaus I just have to get the Celest Plush (18")

Then it Dawns: "Oh my gosh, I am a Bronie!"

Oh well, there are worse things...

As I watched my first episode, I was like 'that pony is acting like she is drunk as fuck' (It was applebuck season) The second episode I thought 'That pony is acting crazy as fuck' (It was the Party of One episode) after watching said episodes my curiosity piqued and I went on to discover that grown men, such as myself, enjoyed this show. So, I started to watch it from the beginning. Only Season 1 was out at the time. And it just caught on. I was hooked pretty much in the opening lines of the series. I just thought it was a very well-made cartoon, that the caliber of talent and dedication that actually went into it for being a 'My Little Pony', because of their tarnished reputation as a 30-minute long commercial show since they started the franchise, and that the lot of you werent all crazy so I decided to join the ranks and call myself a brony. Then I discovered how talented and charitable the fandom was, and how supportive the most of us are, and that really just sealed the deal. And now...Almost 4 years for me in this fanbase and I don't see myself stopping or denying it. Even after the show is long over and i've 'given up' the hype. I'll still admit when im an old man that I'm a brony if anyone is curious enough to ask.

'Well, I knew it would finally happen. I resisted it for so long, but I'm now a 28 year old man with no money, no future, and a crappy job that sits around and watches My Little Pony in his free time.'

Well I like many others just found the flood of pony memes and other things of the sort on the internet interesting and confusing . . . hours and 2 seasons later i came out the other end with more understanding of why many including my self now liked it.

Constant denial.

I would watch a scene, say hey this is dumb, and then be laughing or smiling the very next scene....then I kept sayings. Myself the only reason im still watching this is because dim too lazy to turn off Netflix auto play.

It was January 2014. So there I was, I was forced into watching it and I started off in denial. By yelling and cursing at the TV about how this show is stupid. But I kept watching and watching and found out that I couldn't stop and soon I was laughing at the jokes. Started recognizing voice actors and started to really enjoy it and started to care about the characters and what they were trying to do. It was weird. It was like Hasbro just put up a hypno wheel behind the episode and saying, "You will like My little Pony" but hid it behind ponies for a few hours. Then I finished Season 1-3 in no time and started catching up on season 4. At that point It was too late to turn back and said, "Fuck, now I like a show for girls. That's just great." Joined the herd and become a little more kind and happy and been here ever since

I thought it was pretty hipster and chill so I didn't really care.  Plus it just gives me membership to an extra "faction" if you get what I'm saying.  Still generally keep it to myself though.  It looks hella creepy to people who don't understand.. :/

I have quite an addictive personality so I wasn't shocked I quickly became a brony after I realized I liked this show but what actually went through my mind? "I wonder what's for dinner"

"I guess that episode was pretty good. Maybe I should make something for dinner by now."

...What? Were you expecting me to have some sort of internal conflict, and go through an acceptance journey for liking a show?

Edit: God dammit. The guy above me was wondering what was for dinner as well.
