Your Countries Traditional Food

Recommended Posts

We all come from different countries and each country has some traditional foods, lets share them.

I'll start with three Romanian specialities:

First there are th Mici (Mi-ch-i)

mici.jpg

they are made mainly of beef and taste perfectly grilled

Next are the sarmale... these are eaten in other balkan countries but it is said we have the best

articole_2669.jpg&Sarmale_inventate_0100.jpg

They are pretty much meat--->beef or pork or they can be vegetarian-->rice wrapped in either cabbage or grape leaves. Serve with sour cream and Bread =)

Last we have something that tastes really good even if it sounds and looks... not-so -good...I mean when i first tasted it it was MMMMhhhmmmmm but then i saw it....and heard its name... andd... it didnt sound so attractive... BUT its still good

Its cow-stomach soup

ciorba+de+burta+10.jpg

yup...the thing in the soup is genuine cow stomach.... though it tastes perfect with sour cream...again

Share your traditional food and lets see what diffrent ppl came up with around the world

Here in the United States.

Coca Cola was originally marketed as a hang over cure.  A counter clerk screwed up & hooked up CO2 instead of water & sales soared.

Ice cream cones were 1st made in the 1896 Chicago World's fair.  An ice cream stand ran out of bowls, they made a deal w a Turkish cooking stand next door to make them cones.  They put the ice cream in the cone & it proved popular.

A cook misunderstood the directions for making French Fries (the British call them chips) & "accidently" made potato chips (the British call them crisps)

Chimmy Chungas were invented right here in Arizona.  A cook in a Mexican restaurant had his lunch thrown into the French Fry vat & he ate it anyway

These are just a few of our countless contributions to the World of Haute Cuisine & the art of fine dining ;)

Can't name many traditional American foods, aside from the obvious (hamburger), so I'll name some traditional New England ones.

Clam chowder (clam chowdah)

Lobster rolls (lobstah rolls)

Cranberries, a native berry, is also common in inland cooking.

Ummmm, it's like, some kind of chili with chocolate, it sounds strange but it tastes good, it is served with chicken and rice, or beans

Tamales:post-30373-0-81073000-1418330876_thumb.jpg

Ummm, i don't really know how to explain this one, is like meal with mass inside a corn leave, I don't really like it xD

Zacahuil:post-30373-0-48893300-1418331016.jpg

Hamburgers were invented in Athens, Texas, in the 1880s.

Hotdogs were were invented by a German immigrant on Coney Island in the 1870s.

I'm from NorCal but I don't think there's traditional food here.

But these are popular here:

- Sourdough Bread (Boudin Bakery is known for these)

- Peet's Coffee and Tea (originated here): Better than Starbucks in my opinion

- Ghirardelli Chocolate (originated here)

- In N Out Burger (from SoCal but extremely popular statewide and in the Southwest US)

- California Pizza Kitchen

Well, in this here 'MURICA we eat Hamburgers. xD

Also, deviled eggs maybe and classic chocolate chip cookies too.

It's kinda hard to figure out what some traditional American foods are... since America is pretty multicultural.

I live in NY. Popular New York (mostly the city) foods include:

  • Nathan's Hot Dogs.
  • Coal oven-style pizzas.
  • Deli Sammiches.
  • New York style cheesecake.
  • Half moon cookies.

They're all so good. Going to New York City is the best to get food.  :icwudt:

We pretty much put anything in a pastry and eat it.

Israel's cuisine is made up of dishes brought over from various parts of the world and sometimes modified, particularly from Europe and the Middle East, as well as dishes created in Israel. It's a bit of a weird mishmash that somehow works.

Lots of people from all over the place  =  weird food.
