Hey there everyone! There is a new game on the horizon, "No Man's Sky", and it's looking to be one of the most anticipated games of 2014. Procedurally generated, the game promises an infinite play space with billions of planets to discover. The focus seems to be on a classic sci-fi, wonder, and exploration, showcasing vibrant colors and diverse flora and fauna.

Here is the reveal trailer:

Personally, I'm extremely hyped for this game. The technology of the procedural generation is groundbreaking, and the ambition is commendable. I'm extremely curious as to what my fellow forum users think of No Man's Sky, and if you have any questions about the game I'll answer them to the best of my ability.

I really wasn't excited for this game to start with. Going by what I saw during the E3 reveal it looked fairly empty; kinda similar to Dragon's Dogma or how Destiny turned out.

What I saw during the VGAs absolutely floored me. I don't know what the exact difference was, but I am now really anticipating this game. Really, it looks like it will be a true space adventure. :)

@@PathfinderCS, Yeah the presentation at the VGAs was amazing and the project lead, Sean Murry, was adorable!

Just what they showed off was beautiful, but for me the technical aspect is equally amazing. I highly recommend checking out the Game Informer video below to see what I mean:

It's a little long, but it's also extremely fascinating just to hear how the procedural galaxy is created and the math that goes into such a thing.

@@TenorSounds,

Funny that you mention that considering No Man's Sky is on the cover for the current issue of Game Informer magazine. :D

I've been gauging people's interest in this game, and while a number of them are fairly hyped & all, there are some who are concered; understandable so. It's kind of hard to guage just what type of game this is going to be, but from the looks of it, it will not be your usual plot-based game with set objectives for the most part.

Honestly, I think I'll just lose my time here just exploring. While lack of set objectives can hurt some games, this one here may just thrive from it. <3

But yeah, I keep forgetting about the video you linked. I have to watch that when I get home. ^^

This game looks very interesting to me, I like the idea of exploring and finding new things about the environments.

Looks very expansive too from what I can tell, I will have to give this game a go whenever it releases.

This game has the potential to be great. The idea is grand but it's not likely to be quite as good as it sounds.

The idea of procedurally-generated to give variety to creatures is great on paper but it's pretty likely we'll get ten different creatures that are almost exactly the same but with a different head or color. No matter how many variations they throw in there will eventually be patterns.

Of course we have to take the scale into account. It could be that travelling from world to world will take us long enough that we may not see all that many like-species'.

My favorite thing I've seen about this game is the flawless transition from on-planet into space. The idea that the entire game is basically void of loading times (ideally) with such a huge game is astounding.

Plus there seems to be a bit of variety in the way you play. You could be an explorer and discover new worlds and explore the ones that have been discovered or you could search for battles across the universe or just be a hunter and kill beasts (I think).

The info I've seen on the game may be a bit outdated so forgive me if some of this is off but what No Man's Sky is trying to do could give gamers the freedom they've longed for. I can't wait.

Finally got a chance to watch the video in spurts last night.

While it really hasn't changed how I feel about the game, I was already quite excited. XD Still though, going by what I've seen, it's still kinda hard to tell what to really expect from it, but I can't wait to find out later. It will be a good time to put by adventuring cap on. :)
