There's not much F2P MMO as I know about besides Maple Story. There are some downside parts on maple story, but To give out the reasons why: people in the game say it's pay 2 win, Too Much Bugs & Glitches in the game, Reviews are bad based on the player's reviews and comments, Economy is steadily recovering, game can go unstable at certain updates, and No Test Server (Tespia).

Star Trek Online recently became FreeToPlay (2009). There are a lot of players. The graphics are good and the gameplay is very good too. You can buy a subscription (a monthly subscription or a lifetime one). However, there are almost no significant advantages of being a premium subscriber.

There are three currencies in the game: Dilithium, credits and ZEN.

Dilithium and ZEN are both premium currencies and you can exchange one for the other if need arises. Farming Dilithium is an extremely slow process. As for ZEN, you can only purchase them using real money (or exchange them using Dilithium. But, like I said, it is an extremely slow process). You need ZEN in order to buy new ships and Dilithium for good equipment.

One advantage of being a subscriber is that they get 500 ZEN points per month. Which is in fact very useful.

And this is probably the only useful thing to have as a subscriber.

I am a subscriber ( I bought a lifetime subscription) and the other bonuses I have as a subscriber are the worst I have ever seen...

When it comes to f2p, I often mention Path of Exile and Warframe. I found myself playing lots and lots of the latter lately.

They're both great fun, constantly updated with loads of content and none of them require you to pay a thing to be effective (PoE only sells cosmetics, while all the gameplay-relevant stuff in WF can be obtained easily without paying for it. And by easily I mean buy the blueprint off the market (with normal credits), build it in the foundry, pick it up when it's done.

Otherwise there's Dota2 and LoL but I'm sure you've heard of those already. Their playerbase also tends to be.... unpolite.

(I assumed you meant MMOs and not MMORPGs. If you did mean MMORPGs... well I got nothin' :v)

I always loved Mabinogi, but if you want to branch out from MMORPG's specifically I'd highly suggest Warframe. I was in the closed beta, and it's come an amazingly long way since then.

Honestly, though? Every time I try to get into a new, free MMO I just find myself saying "gee, I wish I was playing Final Fantasy XIV right now". I've come to the realization that, at least for MMORPGs, free ones just aren't worth the time anymore. World of Warcraft and FFXIV, the two biggest MMOs out there right now, are successful because of their subscription model, not in spite of it.

Firefall seems great, I am currently 186 hours into it, it can even be called completely free to play since you can even buy stuff that cost premium currency (IRL cash currency) from just playing the game. Which means you are open to buy any and everything (excluding the "bundles" on the steam store).

Planetside 2 omg yes! That game is seriously worth playing and supporting. I have 634 hours into that game. It is also completely free to play (and the stuff you pay for doesnt cost much; especially in comparson with other F2P games). Been playing that one for two years now. Its about $5 to $7 per gun, and honestly you dont have to buy any of them since the starter weapons are great all around weapons (in some cases people prefer them over anything else), and you can earn everything else just by playing.

I highly recommend both, and if anyone is interested in adding me for either of those just send me a PM (though note I am currently dedicating alot of effort into Castle Crashers).

Brace yourself... long drawn out review inc...

TL:DR - Path of Exile is the best MMO out there right now. Play it.

Path of Exile is one of the best F2P MMO games of all time. Despite it's rather short campaign and lack of side quests the game still manages to be one of the most expansive experiences with near endless replay value thanks to it's fantastic perk tree and skill gem system.

So let's just start off with the negatives to get them out of the way. The game is under whelmingly short, but this doesn't really matter in the scheme of things as I'll explain later. But all I'm going to say is that the game could have more content in it. More side quests, more maps, whatever. There are also a few bugs that still need to be fixed but hopefully Grinding Gear Games will fix them in patches to come.

Now for the good, and trust me when I say there is a lot of good in this game.

First off, the game is like Diable... except on STEROIDS! There is so much loot in Path of Exile and you'll find yourself fighting insane amounts of enemies at a time. I once was fighting what seemed to be 100+ mobs at once (and the game still maintained a great frame rate.). So it's pretty awesome in that sense.

it's 100% free. And best of all, it's not free to win. It took a page from League of Legends and made everything you buy with real life money are mainly things that effect how your character looks or what your spells look like. None of the things you buy will effect how strong your character is. This means you won't feel pressured to have to buy things so you can keep up with the veteran players.

Now for the actual game. The gameplay is stunning. It's simple but with depth. The game functions much differently than other RPGs because every class can use every skill so long as they have the stats. And thanks to the HOLY *#@^ HUGE PERK TREE it allows for endless builds for your characters. You can make a ranger who uses a two handed mace and it'll be just as viable as a ranger who uses a bow, sometimes it could be even more viable. The skill tree can however look quite daunting at first but trust me when I say that you'll want to level up just to put a point into it so you can get a Keystone perk (which are basically super perks I guess. They do cool things and stuff.). And trust me when I say that you'll feel so good when you get one.

Now the skill gems are probably the smartest thing this game has. Basically your weapons and armor have gem slots. Depending on the level you are, your equipment could have one slot to six (Also depends on which equipment it is. Such as the chestpieces can have 6 max and the gloves can only have four max.) You put skill gems into slots of the corresponding color and then you can use them, given you have the weapon that is required (If a weapon is required). Simple, right? Well yes. It is very simple. But it still has depth because there are gems that are support gems which when placed in a slot linking to another slot with a skill gem they directly effect said skill gem. For example, if you were using an ability called Spectral Throw, which when used throws out a ghosty version of your weapon to hurt things, and you attached a multiple projectiles support gem to it, it's fire three weapons out instead of just one. This makes finding gems so satisfying and rewarding.

To finish up this quick review in a few sentences. The enemy designs are cool, everything is fully voice acted so -slow clap- to the devs for that. There is a story, though I didn't really care. There are a lot of unique items and stuff. There always seems to be these cool events going on. It's great fun to play with friends. The maps are randomly generated so each time you play through one it feels a bit more unique and not as repetitive. It's fun to hit things. The game always has new things being added which again, -slow clap- to the devs for the dedication. Maps are instanced so you don't have to worry about some random player stealing your loot.

Basically, the game is great. It's unique, fresh, and you can sink hundreds of hours into it. I know I did and still will. So overall, I'd rate the game a 9/10. Taking points off simply because of the shortness of it.

Needless to say. Download the game.

I'm done now... >_>
