gaming Any Mario game you actually dislike?

A whole lot of us love the famous Mustached plumber xD and of course his games too!! Nintendo has always been a big part of me and many other people's lives. Most of us grew up with Mario. I love a lot of Mario games. They're all so fun and cute!!

But, is there ANY Mario game you have disliked? If so, then why? Why did you dislike it?

I don't personally dislike any, Mario Party may kind of suck in that "why did you steal my star, I thought we were friends" sort of way but I always win at it so I dislike none of them.

Other than that, some of the sports games are okay but some can be sort of boring when played by yourself or not with the right people.

I've played a lot of Mario games over time, spinoffs included, but for some reason the only game I can remember disliking is Mario Strikers Charged Football. I like to do all the offline stuff in games before I have a go at online (I need enough experience before that ;)), but the CPU players in this game were just ridiculous. At higher difficulties, the only thing that really happened in the matches was each side just beating the crap out of each other, making charge shots pretty much impossible for the player. The CPUs could use them whenever they wanted though, since they frequently got better items to cover them when they did that.

I'm not sure if they were programmed to be this way, but the goalie on the player's side was crap most of the time. :/ It was hard to get even a fully charged shot past the CPU's goalie, but for the player's one any shot whatsoever seemed to work; more often that it should do, at least. I've watched videos of other players who've seen the same thing, so I don't think all of it was down to inexperience on my part.

It's actually kinda a shame, since I probably would have enjoyed playing online... If you haven't got someone at home to play with, training against those cheap CPUs just gets irritating, fast. I just lost interest after a while; I couldn't get experience from the CPUs, and I couldn't enjoy playing against them. :(

I was going to say this game.

I hated the fact that I could only play with the Wii Remote and Nunchuck and not one of the other controllers. I also hated how I couldn't restart a game or turn my console off without forfeiting, which means I had to restart the last cup so many times I eventually quit.

Mario's Preschool Fun. Oh god.

"This.. game.. blows.. chunks.."

I'm not really a big fan of Mario Party either. I always feel the AI is OP, and playing multiplayer is just discord waiting to happen. It's pretty boring as well.

The 2.5d mario games. For some reason, the graphics style just throws me off, particularly in the DS and 3DS versions. The Wii and Wii-U versions are at least a bit more stylized and boast a great multiplayer mode.

And I agree whole heartedly with Mario Strikers being here. The AI in that game was freaking insane! Never try to fight the robot team on the hardest difficulty, they will utterly destroy you with charge shots at every opportunity. Beating Kaizo Mario is easier than playing this at the highest level.

The closest to disliking for me is Paper Mario Sticker Star. I was afraid of the sticker system, only to play the game and be met with a much larger issue: the removal of a level up system. Meaning you only fight enemies to get the stickers and coins they drop. Meaning... You basically have no reason to fight whatsoever, since fighting them uses stickers in of itself. Plus the game felt so random. I just lost interest and never got anywhere near beating it.

The NSMB series is pretty bad, too, though. The first one was a fine idea, but everything beyond it has been a rehash and not even worth playing.

Mario's Time Machine (Never knew what the buck to do.) and Paper Mario: Sticker Star (Way too watered-down from the others.).

At least NSMB on the Wii U gives you that one mode where you can warp reality via summoning infinite blocks to troll your friends.

I second Sticker Star. Bring back turn based Paper Mario!

I don't know if I'd say I dislike them, but most of the newer Mario games just seem like the same 'ol Mario games I've already played.

64 is not good. Most overrated game ever. People are all like :o frst 3d platfrmr ooo fav wow

Blasphemy!

Sticker Star was turn based, though? It just gave you no reason to fight the enemies. Lol.

Yeah... I felt especially disappointed when Super Mario 3D World was announced and released. We've already seen the 2D platforming series turned into a repetitive rehash series with NSMB, and now they're making me fear they're going to do it with the 3D series, as well.

3D World has the very same feel and everything as 3D Land, yet everyone praised it to the high heavens for multiple characters or something.

It used to be that every new 3D Mario on a new platform brought a new theme and everything. But with the Wii U they just gave us 3D World... It's bad enough that with the Galaxy series they made the worlds linear, but now they aren't even going to give us new themes?

The "3D" series might be the NSMB version of the 3D platforming series.. I'm afraid.

Does Mario Teaches Typing count?

I feel some of the spin off games are kind of pointless. Like Mario Tennis, or Mario Golf, or Mario Sports Mix. Does Mario need a game for every sport?

Also, New Super Mario Brothers U and Mario Galaxy 2 well not bad games, feel like rehashes.

What? No Hotel Mario!? :P

Seriously though, the closest to ever hating a Mario game would be Mario Kart Wii. I mean, the game is still fun as hell, but it can also feel so cheap. I mean, with MK64 & even MK8 the game feels like a pure racer in a way, but the Wii game just feels so cheap as it seems the AI just loves to spam weapons on you CONSTANTLY!

Also, gotta love the hackers in multiplayer that essentially ruined the experience for me...

I think the introduction of super flags in that game was meant to be some sort of mild incentive for players to keep battling, in lack of any experience to gain. I like the idea, but the execution was terrible :/ I've had a go before at trying to complete all 8 of them, but having probably fought every enemy in every level at least once, there's still a few of them I'd have to go through a hundred more battles or so to complete (I've got a Perfect Bonus in 200 battles! :squee:... 300 more to go... :(). There is sorta a reason to fight, but considering how much grinding it requires and how unspectacular the reward is, it really doesn't justify sticking around for the battles.

How do you hack Mario Kart, anyway?

...

I only want to know for defensive purposes, I swear.

Having had the misfortune of playing Mario Is Missing! as a kid, I can say there is technically a Mario game I dislike. However, I don't really count that as a "game" so much as a "colossal waste of time and brain cells", so it probably doesn't count in the grand scheme of things.

Of the real Mario titles I've played, I can't say I've ever particularly disliked any of them. Thought some were more mediocre than others, sure, but never have I had a decidedly unpleasant experience with them.

Sticker Star, to be honest. I may be nostalgic for Super Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door, but it was too generic. I was so disappointed and the gameplay, to be honest, kinda sucked too (NO PARTNERS WHAT I CAN'T VIVIAN MY WAY THROUGH EVERYTHING OR USE THE PIXELS TO CARRIE MY TEAM (LOL PUNS)). Please Nintendo, make a paper mario game with a story as amazing as Super Paper Mario but with Thousand Year Door gameplay, except less backtracking (the backtracking in ttyd was the only part i didn't like about it). I will love you forever.

I'm also not a fan of sports games but it's fun to mess around with Sports Mix.

The "New" SMBs

64 is not good. Most overrated game ever. People are all like :o frst 3d platfrmr ooo fav wow

the best 2d mario is World (duh)

the best 3d mario is Sunshine

Although I like 64, it is overrated. People view it through nostalgia goggles rather than an honest view. Its ok saying they prefer it over later 3D mario games, but it is not better than Mario Galaxy one or two.

Its an insult to Nintendo to say that they got it right the first time and they haven't progressed since.

As for a mario game I dislike, I'd have to say sunshine. Too many unforgiving moments and the blue coins are hidden way to well. A guide is necessary, especially considering that some blue coins are revealed by spraying water on certain walls. That is BS considering that it could be literally any wall. F U sunshine.
