Prologue

In the outskirts of Ponyville is the Everfree Forest, a place known to be terrifying, scary, mysterious and unknown. Where magical creatures who lurk in the night, looking around for ponies to bite, and where even the most beautiful of plants can be the most deceiving. You'd think to yourself: "I'd NEVER go here, or even live here for that matter!" but as strange as it is, someponies would live there for reasons unknown. In fact, one stallion in particular who finds in rather comfortable and spacious. Anyhow this is a story about that stallion and how when trouble bumps into play, his life will change in the most interesting of ways~

NightStrike was taking his routine walk trough the forest. The dark trees surrounded him and cast shadows that seemed to be moving at random. Many a pony would run scared having the feeling that things could be creeping up on them from the shadows any second. NightStrike was not such a pony however, he moved through the shadows and felt completely at ease doing so, knowing that nothing could approach him without him knowing.

He had some time off from his work and he was planning to use it to full extent. These walks were a way to relax for NightStrike. He had always liked solitude, being around other ponies could make him feel rather uneasy sometimes. Yet all this time, there had been something of a void that had yet to be filled. He couldn't lay his hoof on what it is but he felt like he was missing out on something.

Shaking his head in an effort to get his thoughts straight he continued walking through the dark woods. Staring right back in some of the eyes of the many creatures that were looking at him through the cover of shadows and leafs.

Meanwhile above the clouds a figure, almost, well pretty much pony like figure flying through the sky as the stars twinkled, dazzling like diamonds as the moon made the night lit up. The mysterious figure seemed to feel a worn out for quite sometime as the creature was traveling by flight for a long time. The figure flew downward into the Everfree Forest within the trees. As the creature stretched out it's wings it happen to hear noises coming it's way. With not a second thought to spare it hid into the lower brushes making it's self very hidden.

NightStrike ears perked up "What was that?" He thought at the sound of something out of place. Something just landed and it was not one of the smaller animals he usually saw around this part of the forest. Whatever it was, it probably heard him as he was not really paying attention to moving around silently.

Thus he decided to continue walking forward acting like he had heard nothing. But in reality he was taking in his surroundings carefully in an effort to distinguish the creature he heard earlier from the black and green background of the forest. After a while he almost thought that he might had mistaken and only had imagined hearing the sound.

"There you are.." NightStrike thought, when he finally spotted two big amber colored eyes looking at him from the brushes. The creature had hidden itself very cleverly NightStrike had to admit. A less trained or careful pony wouldn't had been able to spot it for sure. "But they look like... pony eyes.... yet something is different about them" He realized in thought.

"I've got to say" He started talking out loud in the direction of the eyes staring at him "That you did a great job of hiding yourself. Eeehm... I'm not sure if you can understand me actually but if you do I can assure you that I won't harm you."

He might had made a mistake there as he fully trusted that the creature he saw wouldn't lunge at him from it's hiding place but he didn't think it would do that.

As quick as a whip the creature took off in a flash. A huge breeze slightly push the stallion back as it made it's escape. Only by it's eyes their wasn't much othe details to who or what this "thing" was. Not looking back, the mysterious creature went a bit further into the forest to a bare patch. Nearly caught in the act the creature sighed catching it's breath. Having to think out a better way to make sure that stallion wouldn't follow. "Knowing mortals, his curiosity might take him to finding me. As of now I'm safe, but still should be alert if he trys anything." It thought as it sighed trying to stay focused and calm.

[sWOOOOSH] the hiding creature took off fast as lightning the sudden movement and the air blast leaving NightStrike in a defensive posistion jumping backwards in a reflex.

After a few seconds he shook his head snapping himself out of it "well so much for trying to talk..." He mumbled more to himself than to anypony else in particular. It seemed as though the creature was more scared of him than he was of the creature. Or it really really did not want to communicate. Well it probably wasn't preying om him if it fled away from him like that.

Then again, this all made him even more curious to find out who or what it was. It was obviously very skilled at flight because NightStrike had trouble to distinguish any features while it was in flight, it was very fast indeed. Knowing that even though some creatures tend to react pretty badly if you chase them he was determined to find out who or what she was.

Letting his curiousity overtake him he set out venturing deeper into the forest in the direction where he saw the creature take off to.

While the creature stayed alert, it glance over, looking to the side to a smaller pool of water, walking towards that small pool the creature took in some in her mouth and slowly pouring it over it's wings and underneath them. The cold, refreshing feeling to it's wings brought the tension down, in a way it was relaxing as it continued to do so. Once cooled off the creature repetitively flapping it's wings while sticking to the ground, a few times more to make sure they're dry. The echoing sound of it's flapping made a slight breeze and carried through the direction of where NightStrike was walking. Little did the creature knew this, but that didn't mean it had no plan for a quick get away.

A little smirk played up on NightStrike his face when he heard a faint flapping of wings. He was sure it was the creature and it was coming from his right. He decided to do his best to make no sound at all this time.

He knew he was coming closer as the soft sounds it made by rustling the leaves became louder. In the meanwhile he was just hoping the creature was just scared of him not playing some kind of game with him. The forest was his terrain so he was able to make his way very very quietly.

There it was! Looking through his cover he could distinguish the colored tail of the creature standing on a bare patch.

After a while it's wings had finished drying and so closed it's wings. Now that NightStrike could see clearly what it was, it looked like a mare, so it was a pony, but not a pegasus for sure. The mare's ears were a bit different at the top, the wings were shaped differently not like a normal pegasus, and the mare's physique was quite average thin and sleek which could explain her speed. The mare didn't notice the stallion observing her, for he was being very careful without making a disturbance. The mare opened her eyes as NightStrike notice like before that they looked different from normal pony eyes, her pupils were pointed and sharp to the look, the iris color itself was a beautiful golden yellow.

NightStrike carefully moved into an other position so he could take a better look at the creature. And yep, it seemed that the creature was indeed a pony, a mare to be precise. But unlike any pony he had ever seen before. She had a sleek profile even though that was not entirely uncommon among pegasus ponies because it made them faster. NightStrike was quite sure this was not a pegasus he was looking at, her ears where different as where her eyes having different pupils.

All together NightStrike thought she looked quite amazing. And he was unsure about making his presence known to her possibly making her flee away from him again. He decided to risk it anyway.

"Eeehm... ehhh... hi......" Was all he could bring out.

The mare's ears perked up insistently as she turned right around to see NightStrike standing there not knowing if this pony was dangerous. The look on her face showed nothing but a smirk as she softly chuckled. "Why hello there young traveller, what brings you here to disturb my peace~?" she said as her wings suddenly opened looking dead straight at the stallion with pupils sharpened and a smile so sinister yet sweet, showing her pointed fangs.

"Well at least she did not flee again..."  NightStrike thought as the hairs on his back went straight upright as he saw her pointy teeth. Those where very unponylike he knew. Then again, NightStrike had some unusually pointy teeth himself which he showed with an unsure grin. He just wasn't used to other ponies having the same point like him.

"Eeeh well I guess I was just really interested... I mean I'm not used to seeing other ponies besides me around here in the everfree. Excuse me if I disturbed you though miss..." He pawed at the ground with his hoof apologetically.

The mare walked up slowly to NightStrike as she chuckled before replying. "You have disturbed me, Traveller and usually where I'm from it's never a good thing, in fact it's a real problem that someponies get themselves in~" she said folding in her wings as her fangs grew slightly. "You shouldn't be out here during the night, such horrors come out during this time, very dangerous things~" she added extremely close to the stallion.

"Hey now wait just a second." NightStrike said jumping backwards to keep some distance between him and the mare."Don't go telling me whether I should be out or not at this time in the Everfree. With all due respect I'm fully capable of defending myself after having lived here for years." He continued all the while keeping some distance between him and the mare. No more coming that close to him again for now. He had noticed how her fangs grew and it made all threat alarms in his head go off. Even though everything in his body seemed to tell him so, he still wouldn't believe the mare to be dangerous.

The mare giggled softly as she let out a sigh smiling, "Oh I'm sorry, did I cross your boundaries? Well then, I guess this makes us even now" she replied giggling again. "This chat was nice but now, young Traveller I must leave, but before that I'd listen very carefully." she dared to get slightly closer. "If our paths EVER meet again a little bit of advice, RUN. And don't think twice about disturbing me again, otherwise I'd have to make a mess, and of course I assume you like living, no? You wouldn't want that taken away from you? Of course not" she finished as she back away slowly opening her wings just about to take off. "Be true to my word otherwise there will be terrible consequences~" she said looking dead serious, as pupils sharpened.

This all made NightStrike slightly chuckle "Oowh you don't wanna know how many terrible consequences I should have undergone if all the ponies who said that to me kept true to their word. Besides I'm not really a pony for running away from confrontations anyway. I'd like to choose them at the opportune moment though." He looked back at her

"Because you see, this part of the forest is what I could call my home. And even though I can understand you want me getting out of here I am afraid that's not possible as I'm not giving my home up. I'm just an innocent pony making some nightly walk through the forest surrounding my home that's all..." And while he said that a white flash from his teeth could be seen as he grinned. Quick as lightning he levitated out a switchblade from a pocket of the camouflaged suit he was wearing and carved out a text in the nearest tree in a flash. After that he turned around and trotted away slowly becoming one with the shadows.

The text [we'll meet again] was clearly visible on the tree he just carved out.

The mare rolled her eyes as she flew straight up, like a jolt of speed flying up to the clouds. Making sure he wouldn't follow her again she went into a different direction. She wasn't scared of the stallion's words, she was taught never to be scare of mortals for what they had isn't worth being scared. For the moment she faded the thoughts of that stallion and instead she chose to eat, and to her luck somepony wandering alone. The mare came down closer to the trees making herself camouflaged waiting for the perfect moment to strike. The pony who seemed to be a stranger to the forest as he had no idea what to expect. The mare found out he seemed lost as she then snuck up behind him quietly as he slowly turned around to scream for the moment before she covered his muzzle. "Shhh it's okay..I'm hear to help you~" she said as the mare uncovered his muzzle. The stallion sigh of relief "Oh thank Celestia, how could I ever repay you miss..?" he asked. As the mare chuckled as she softly said: "Just stay still and I'll take care of the rest~" as she bit him on his neck as a blood crudling scream came out from that stallion. The mare began to suck his blood until he couldn't scream any longer. As she got her "just dessets" of a meal she let him go, unhooking her fangs from the victim as she said: "Lights out~ Sweet dreams" as he fainted and the mare took off flying away from the area.

NightStrike wandered the forest paths once more still wondering what kind of pony the mare was he met earlier. Something about her just made him feel incredibly uncomfortable yet at the same time he felt at ease. And he kept seeing her amber colored eyes in his mind. He never saw a pony with those kind of pupils, he was not scared but rather intrigued by them.

He was lost in his thoughts for quite a while so he did not notice the sounds the panicked stallion made when he was about to get fed on. After being so lost in his thoughts that he bumped into a tree he decided that it was sleep time for him. Well a few hours of sleep that is. NightStrike never slept much more than a couple hours. He just didn't need as much sleep and he was amazed by the amount of sleep some other ponies managed at time.

He climbed up in a tree in the cover of the leaves lying down on a thick branch. He was very hard to see as to avoid the creatures walking the forest at night. One could basically land in the tree before one noticed he was in there.

After a long night of feeding the mare was full, and when she felt full she felt her happiest. Flying through the night as she was doing all kinda of freestyle aerial tricks though the sky as the cooling winds brushes through her mane. When at her happiest she always sang a melody, throughout the night. It could be heard from a few miles away, the sweet melody carried out through those miles.

NightStrike opened his eyes. Everything was still the way as when he went to sleep, the wind rusling through the leaves, a beautiful melody, birds singing and small animals scuffling around... Wait a beautiful melody!? NightStrike opened his eyes wide open and perked his ears never having heard such a melody before. He was instantly awake and had an idea as to where it was coming from.

He gracefully jumped down from his sleeping tree and continued his search for the mysterious mare he met earlier.

"Alas, my love, you do me wrong, To cast me off discourteously. And I have loved you so long, Delighting in your company. Greensleeves was all my joy Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves was my heart of gold, And who but my lady greensleeves~" sang the mare as she gracefully flew through clouds. The night when ending but the mare continues to fly through the skies as she soaked the last bit of the dusk. "Greensleeves, now farewell, adieu, Celestia I pray to prosper thee, For I am still thy lover true, Come once again and love me~" she continued to sing.

The voice of the mare he met earlier was now clearly audible for NightStrike. If he did his best he could even make out individual words she was singing. Apparently she was singing a song of some sorts. He could hear that she was flying so there was no actual way of reaching her but that wouldn't stop him for running after her. And he could hear that he was getting closer to her. He decided to wait for her where she would land.

Once the sun started to peek out and the mare once she saw it she immediately flew down into the darker parts of the forest. A big yawn she let out as tired eyes were upon her face. She perched herself on a tree branch as the mare wrapped her tail under the brand and flipped upside down as he closed her eyes and fell right asleep.

After what seemed like an eternity of seeking to him NightStrike finally found the mare he had been looking for. She was sleeping peacefully in a tree.. hanging upside down to his amazement. He wondered how anypony could sleep like that at all actually.

Still he did not want to, and it seemed rather unwise to wake the mare in her sleep instead he sat down at the bottom of the tree waiting for her to wake up.

Knowing the mare was asleep with a fully stomach she was way too tired to be awoken suddenly. However this mare was at peace with herself, lowering her body temper to the chill because of the shading under the trees. She did shiver a bit but this mare was used to it.
