Blue Moon's Ambient Thread

Blue Moon

Recommended Posts

Hey, everyone; I have seen these kinds of threads (for other genres, of course), but I have yet to see one for the lovely genre: ambient. To fix this, I have decided to create one. So yeah, if anyone out there is a fan of ambient music (anyone is welcome though); here is a place to share songs you enjoy in the genre, and discover more. :)

Also, downtempo and post-rock will be accepted genres here as well. And don't worry about whether or not the song you want to post counts as ambient. As long as you think it belongs, it's good. Please don't tell other members that their posted song isn't one of the accepted genres either. :)

I'll start with one of my favorites from Stellardrone, and a very relaxing song from Aphex Twin:

Am I gonna post Aquatic Ambience?

Of course I'm gonna post Aquatic Ambience.

Love that game's soundtrack; Aquatic Ambience is my favorite track from it too. :)

Here's something from Tycho, who is very talented:

I love the first one you posted <3 I think you had it on one of the forum games and its ... idk very relaxing and really cool

I'm not so sure what ambient music is, would

~snip because it's filling up the two Youtube videos a post limit this forum has. Sorry! Please forgive me... D: ~

count?

I don't remember what exact song I posted, but I know it was by Stellardrone; so yes, you are most likely correct. :)

Yes, I'd say Interstellar's main theme would count. Ambient music is generally space-y and relaxing, and Interstellar's main theme fits that description. :)

Ambient music is generally categorized by not having a consistent beat, if any at all (if it has more beat than usual, but still sounds ambient; it's probably downtempo, which counts under this thread), and it's usually electronic (if it's done with traditional instruments, it's probably post-rock or something similar, which also counts under this thread).

Basically, ambient music is very atmospheric and soft, but it has just enough for it that it's not just background music.

With that said, here is some more from Stellardrone ,and something from Hammock.

:3 thanks. I'm pretty sure the one you posted was the Stelladrone one you posted first on here. And I love all these songs, they're so relaxing I'm going to have to go to sleep soon xD

Yay! :D

Nuuu, don't fall asleep...though these kinds of songs tend to have that kind of effect on people. xD

Here's two great songs from M83, who sometimes does a bit of ambient:

Thank you for posting more O: I was about to ask!

I'm not falling asleep but I will say there is a lot of yawning going on here.

You're welcome. :)

Hopefully the good kind of yawning. :P

Anyway, I have one more song for tonight by Christopher Willits which for some reason: was extremely difficult to find on Youtube. The video itself literally had no views when I clicked on it, so that's an interesting note. Regardless, it's a lovely song:

It now has one view. c: It grew up so fast...

Some Boards of Canada & the theme from American Beauty.

Enjoy.  :)

Never listened to much of Boards of Canada, but that song was really good. I'll have to listen to some more from them. The second song was lovely as well. :)

Here is a beautiful song from Jonn Serrie:

Oh man I love this thread already.  Ambient and Post-Rock are my favorite genres of music.  Hammock is my favorite band so kudos to posting them already.  :fluttershy: But there are so many amazing artists out there.  Some of my favorite songs are:

God Is an Astronaut: Parallel Highway

Caspian: Gone in Bloom and Bough

The American Dollar: Flood

Maybeshewill: He Films the Clouds, Pt. 2

Hammock is amazing, as well as God Is an Astronaut (I posted Forever Lost earlier, so if you've never heard that before; I highly recommend you do so).

I'm not familiar with the other three songs you posted, but I adored the one by The American Dollar, so I'll definitely check that out later.

It's nice to see an ambient thread.   :)

Ott's Mir has to be one of my favorite ambient albums.  It combines dub with ambient and does it very well.

~snip~

Androcell's Efflorescence is also up there, too.

~snip~

:D

Mir sounded amazing; I listened up to 10:50 mark, but I'll listen to the rest later. :)

Efflorescence had a really cool sound to it as well; I listened to around the 6:00 mark.

Does dark ambient count?

~snip~

Yeah, that sounds pretty ambient-ish, I guess; so if you want to post dark ambient; that should be fine. :)

Here's another track by Christopher Willits:

And some post-rock from Explosions in the Sky

  • 3 weeks later...

Finally people who understand ambient music!

Probably the best I've heard is C418, mostly known for his Minecraft pieces. He has several more which don't get the same amount of recognition, but sound just as good. Probably the most relaxing I've heard.

Then there's dark ambient, like Andreas Rönnberg, who does the Cry of Fear Soundtrack, perfect for listening to at night with the volume at 100!

Those are the best I know of, but the others in this thread are really cool too.

Ooh, I forgot about Minecraft's soundtrack; I didn't know C418 (I'll have to listen to some more of him) was the person behind it. I adore the songs of that game's soundtrack; his pieces are truly beautiful and relaxing, and one of my favorite parts of Minecraft. It's very soothing to have them just start playing out of nowhere, and they fit well.

Never played Cry of Fear, but I'm listening to some of the soundtrack, and it sounds really nice. I particularly like Sophie and Brandon.
