  1. 1. Which do YOU think "that glorious bumpy thing" ought to be called?

    • That glorious bumpy thing. DUH.
      2
    • Chestnut because adorable. Focus on the adorable.
      1
    • Sugar lump, as suggested by TheFunk.
      4
    • ........The hock. -_- Which is decidedly un-cute. And sounds like you're coughing something up. "HOCK!"

Surely I'm not alone in seeing the appeal of the adorable pony "chestnut."

(What is this guy talking about?  A chestnut is a, well...  Nut.  Perhaps HE'S a nut.)

You're probably thinking that I'm a nut right now.  In parentheses, no doubt.  So I'll explain:

Wordweb sez:

chestnut - n. A small horny callus on the inner surface of a horse's leg

And there's a diagram, to boot!  I find this bit of Rainbow's anatomy to be more than deserving of exaltation and frequent praise.

So, you've seen pony chestnuts galore, and now you know what the hell they are. xD    This life-changing revelation has doubtless triggered an incomparable euphoric response, and I hope that you will share your similar fondness for that glorious bumpy thing.

Why is that diagram pointing to Rainbow's stifle? The chestnut is a actually a bit more inner placed and above the joint.

Why does every diagram I find online disagree with you?

Not to mention that Equestrian mare anatomy and Earth horse anatomy don't precisely correspond.  And besides: "Chestnut" sounds smexier than "stifle."  If it was your intention to stifle my enjoyment of that anatomical tidbit, thou hast failed!!1! xD

according to this diagram, wouldn't that part be considered the Hock?

That's a possible and unfortunate interpretation, yes. xD  But "hock" is a decidedly uncute name. :/  And there's already a pony body part (of which I'm similarly fond) called the "dock," and I'll not have some of the choicest bits of pony anatomy rhyming!  It's uncouth.  Not to mention (though obviously I'm mentioning it) that the "stifle" of which the previous poster spoke was nowhere near the target area.

Darnit chestnut sounds cute!!1!  Cute things deserve cute names; permit me this luxury.

well arguments aside, I can definitely agree that this is one of the best parts of the pony.

I always use to call it the "Sugar Lump", because the only reference I use to go on was Diamon Tiara and Silver Spoons special handshake thing

BUMP! BUMP! SUGAR LUMP! RUMP!

when they say sugar lump i believe they touch hocks

I think sugar lump should be the official name for this body part

I meant hock x)

I got the knee and ankle joints confused. 'Twas the night before Christmas and all. Mind goes wonky when I'm in a house full of four dozen people.

Anyway, I really don't see magical ponies as having vestigial remains. And that markup in the OP is still pointing to a joint. :P

Though I prefer "chestnut" (regardless of arguable positional accuracy lol), you do make a solid case for "sugar lump."  I'll include it as an option in a poll.

You ought to have gone around asking all those people their thoughts on pony anatomy. xD  You had a room full of possible equine aficionados!  It would have made for interesting conversation, at the very least.  And I think the very fact that they are magical means they can have chestnuts wherever they like.  Besides, "hock" is a terrible, terrible name for anything; it evokes sullen trips to the pawn shop.  Even @TheFunk volunteered a preferable alternative.  WHY DIDN'T YOU CANVAS THE ROOM?!?  About hocks and chestnuts and lumps (oh my)?!?  Missed opportunity. ;__;

This thread appears to be some manner of random (but strangely enjoyable) nonsense, or something spammy of the sort. Thus, it has been sentenced to the Forum Lounge section of Cloudsdale Colosseum.

Hopefully it finds some life here. :)

Don't forget the 3rd one.  ;)
