Generally, when I'm searching for some stories on FIMFiction, I tend to apply these filters:

~No fics involving background/minor ponies (Derpy being the exception B))

~Romance (read way too much of this :P)

~Complete (my heart breaks when a perfectly good story doesn't end :()

~No OCs

~No Big Mac (not a fan of the shippings he's in :/)

~No crossover, AU, or tragedy

What about for you ponies? :) Or, if you don't search for fanfics, how do you find out about and decide what stories to read? :D

Well I haven't really read fanfics in a LONG time. But when I did read them at one point, I normally just looked at the new stories on the FIMfiction homepage and chose something that interested me :) Either that or I just looked for something with Pinkie Pie in it

Then there were times when I browsed EQD to see what fanfics they had posted :)

• Complete - This is the most important part of a fanfiction for me, if I read a story it must be complete so that I can read it throughout whenever I feel like it (I do the same with TV (the latest season must be complete))

•Max words 10,000 - honestly I'm not a fan on fanfictions that go over this limit.

•Genres - I usually read Slice Of Life, Romance, Comedy, Random, occasionally Sad and very rarely Dark.

I also add what's hot occasionally to read some of the more popular stories.

  • Character: Whoever I want to be the main characters/If I want to place a personality on a background character I will try to pick out the most popular with them being the main

Minimum words: I usually set it to 100,000 then go down to 50,000 if I want more of a selection, I'll read smaller ones occasionally though

Genre: Romance, Slice of Life, Grimdark(I hate it, but I love it), and a few others, but those are my top ones

Progress: Complete, I hate reading things that aren't complete

I honestly have no idea. I usually search for the Thunderlane tag, and whatever comes next is something else.

Actually, one day I was looking at a Thunderlane video on Youtube, and in one of the comments there was a reference to a fic. I got curious and went to check it out. Turns out the story was a part of a whole storyline. And I really wanted to read the Thunderlane fic, so I started reading everything in the storyline. The thing is... The author had a really good SoarinDash fic going on in that storyline. I got hooked. Yep, I read the Thunderlane fic, but I'm staying for that SoarinDash. XD

It is very, very rare for me to read a fanfic. I think the last one I read was On a Cross and Arrow. But all the ones I did find were from Equestria Daily.

Eh, they're ok. I don't read them much

Although I am subscribed to Ink Rose and ObabScribbler who mostly do fanfics.

I really like to read Fanfics.

Most of the time i read slice of life stories on Fimfiction, but i also like to read fics about topic, that the show probably never will explore.

What i never liked though where gore stories. I don't know, it just dosen't feel right, that a pony story must be all about blood, eventhough i have no problem with looking at it.

(BTW, first real post on the site.)

Usually, it depends on my mood. One week I may look for romance, another I look for humor or humans.

But, usually I sort by highest rated, as that usually weeds out heavily-cliche, uninteresting, or poorly written stories. The most popular and highest rated are like that for a reason, after all.

Also, I would often set it so it's 20-50k+ words. Generally if a story gets that far, there's a good bit to read through upon finding it, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, it shows the author is committed to writing it. Most stories that die, often die earlier.

I used to go on fanfiction, but I recently started using fimfiction and it's completely spoiled me. Finding fanfiction is usually a sort of "spiderweb effect" for me, I start with one that I happened upon or was recommended to me, and if I like it I read more by that author, then I look at what they followed or favorited and read that stuff, then I spread out like that.

I look for the poorly rated fanfics so that I can post snide comments on them.

In all seriousness, I just browse the main page and through author profiles until I find something interesting

I just put in what character I want a fiction about, select the genre, most good ones usually contain Slice of Life, and hit search. You should also select the option for views first as that will get you the best fictions.

I always search for slice of life stories, and sometimes even sad stories. It's not that I like reading ponies being sad, but sad stories tend to be the better ones. I rarely read romance because most stories don't do it correctly and screw it up.

I mostly read stories about Scootaloo, she seems to have the best fics IMO. But I think I've read almost every single good one out there. :P

I also like CMC stories and the occasional Mane 6 story.

I usually just search through the tags of wahtever floats my boat at the time. I also browse the groups, which tend to group together a lot of stories on specific themes.

I love loooooonnnnggggg fanfics. I do't usually have time to read it all at once, so I finish them in my spare time.

I have love shipping fanfics, as long as they have a good plot, good grammar, a shipping I like (duh) and I hate OC x Canon Character stories.

I also hate it when someone stopped writing a fic, just when I was hooked on to it. The situation is so dire sometimes, I have to make up my own endings to keep myself from... I don't know.
