Is Sunset Shimmer overrated?

This is something that has been on my mind lately: why do people think Sunset Shimmer is so great?

I mean I have nothing against her personally, but I just don't see what the fuss is about her being such a great character. She's just a 'meh' character.

To me she is one of the things that epitomized what makes EQ so bad in the first place and goes against what the fundamentals of MLP FIM.

She has no personality. I don't care for her the same reason why many people don't care for Flash Sentury (Other than being a cringewothy love interest for Twilight and being a waifu stealer, lol.) But these characters are a lot alike. They have no personality other than being plot devices for the silly high school drama stereotype motif for these movies. Even the whole "You and used Flash used to be an item" really gets under my skin.

She's a bit of a drama queen. And I don't mean in a fun way like Rarity, but in a very unpleasant way. Like I said before she's sort of a Meg Griffin kind of character, feeding the high school stereotype. I know people say that she was better in RR, but to me it was just more silly high school drama.  "Everyone at school hates me now and now I have to redeem myself." "You're never gonna bring me down! you're never gonna break this part of me!" She is such an overdramatic character.

She's not all that pretty. I know this is a bit superficial, but her looks reflect her personality, just 'meh.' Not crazy about the mustard and ketchup hairdo, lol.

Anyway those are just a few thoughts.

What do you all think?

Well firstly we can look at the difficulties she is going through and i am sure everybody has gone through this situation, doing a mistake and then having a extremly hard time to making others believe you are geniunly sorry. Then there dat design. Next we have the school setting with very few friends... yeah believe me, i have been through this and it is truly trerrible... that make Sunny's character very relatable and you feel REALLY sorry for her. Then theres dat design. We also see how hard it is for her to actually integrate in "friendship" and she keeps her "distance" from certain "friend" aspects and therefore she is somewhat of a 'secondary' friend of the human mane 6. This can especially be seen when Twilight re-enters the human world and her friends barely notice her. Again..very relatable... and heartbreaking if u ave gone through something similar. Then there dat design. You also have to consider just how amazing the character developmen from the first movie evolved, she is an absolutely lovely character.

Then theres that design... I meann honestly.... She's ADORABLE in some pics and absolutely smexy in others. Her pony for is pretty well made too. I mean you can trace a lot of similarities between her pony form and rarity (similar mane and tail design...same mouth shape...I was/and still am a Rari-fan =D)

(its been asked again... so ill just post the same thing)

I personally haven't seen RR just yet, so I'm disadvantaged in seeing if they developed her character well or not. As it stands, going off of the first EQ... she IS pretty flat as far as villians go--there as kind of a plot device in feeling.

Though, sometimes I feel EQ was handed to a different group of people almost--never looked into that, but the writers on task might've been different.

Well, this is kinda one of the points why I like her in the first place. Sunset Shimmer, especially in RR, helps EQG be its own thing, separate from FiM.

Nah, not in my eyes she isn't. I think why fans like Sunny is because of how the writers patched up her personality in Rainbow Rocks. In the original fans complained about her stereotypical bully personality as it didn't explained much of her backstory or goals. But in Rainbow Rocks we see her go through conflict, as Canterlot High is still hung over her actions at the Fall Formal. As somebody who had a rough school life I can relate to what Sunny is going through, as do a lot of other fans.

Also, just because something is popular doesn't make it bad. The reason some things are popular is because, well, they're very well made. :3

@Zejgar,  I can see that. However it goes back to how they should have just made EQ completely separate thing instead of tying it to the original series, I.E Twilight going though the portal ect, ect. But that's for another discussion.
