The power of your favorite number starting with your birth date

Don't freak out, I'm not gonna use numerology here, just science ;)

I'm a Unicorn, and mathemagic is my favorite branch of Magic.

But I use to see that most humans tend to hate it.

To change its bad reputation in your world a little bit, I decided to play Trixie and show you some cool mathemagical spell I learned recently when studying some old books by Starswirl the Bearded.

OK, so here's the deal:

Tell me your...

favorite number (or your lucky number if you wish), and your...

birth date (in a YYYY-MM-DD format, unless you prefer it written differently),

and in return I'll tell you some Magic NumberTM.

Then, when you raise your favorite/lucky number to the power of that Magic Number, the result will start from your birth date (when you put down its decimal digits).

Here's an example of what I mean:

My favorite number is 7.

My birth date is 1982-12-03.

The Magic Number is then 1316831, because 71316831 = 19821203202357042996...2076482743 .

The actual number has 1112852 decimal digits (over a million!) so I didn't put down the entire number here, just the relevant part, contracting the humongous rest into the "..." in the middle.

Now it's your turn to experience the Magic :)

Do you want to know your own personal Magic Number? Then just post your birth date and your lucky number here in this thread, and once a couple of posts I'll post your Magic Numbers here.

Or, if you don't want to disclose your birth date in public, you can send me a PM as well, and I'll send you your Magic Number back. (I just hope I won't get flooded with PMs, and there will be at least a bunch of people who will post their birth dates here for the sake of public performance of Magic :derp: )

Of course you don't need to believe me on my words. Please feel free to verify that what I'm telling is true. You can do it with Wolfram Alpha by typing in:

20 digits YourLuckyNumber^YourMagicNumber
replacing the camel-cased words with the numbers I provided you, of course. This way you can check the first 20 decimal digits of that power of your lucky number.

See? Told ya mathemagic could be fun :)

Who would guess that your entire birth date can be found in a power of your lucky number ;)

@, here's your Magic Number: 44534217

Because 444534217 = 19990220991570088806...8318045184

And that number is 26812271 decimal digits long (over 26 million!).

A proof by Wolfram Alpha.

@, here's yours: 12508568

Because 712508568 = 199611267582480214312...5568500801

And that number is 10570967 decimal digits long (around ten million!).

A proof by Wolfram Alpha.

@ here you go: 197759288

23197759288 = 19981123...0856582081

Unfortunately, this number is 269294328 digits long (over 270 million!), and it seems that Wolfram has some difficulties in calculating numbers that big, so this time you will have to trust my words, or choose a smaller favorite number.

I should have limited them to single digits perhaps ;-P

Not that I couldn't calculate longer ones ;) It's just that I couldn't be able to prove my answer to you, since it seems that I not only broke the limits of my calculator and PC, but also Wolfram Alpha :-/

I need to edit my original post about that...

Update:

Since I couldn't prove it for 23 with Wolfram, I did it for 2 and 3 separately:

210604220 = 19981123433430445248...7283480576 (Wolfram)

364435732 = 199811234918654973714...3837565841 (Wolfram)

Or, if you insist on your happy number to be 23, let's use a different (shorter) format for the date. Then you have:

23529351 = 98112365970041221227...3817530727 (Wolfram confirms)

hmm very interesting indeed well lets see its hard to tell what my favorite number is but there is always a number that seems to work out well for me when i go shopping and it is 30, with so many coupons i drop the price to 30 or less and keep myself from spending over 100$ so it would have to be 30 and my birthdate is 1991-6-1 :)

The Magic Number for @ is... 8660711

308660711 = 199106015966973034463...0000000000

You were lucky, only 12792921 digits (12 million), so Wolfram could attest my words.

It's also special in that it is a multiple of a power of 10, so it ends with a bunch of zeros ;) Looks like you saved something this time too ;)

@@Adash: ah, the famous meaning of life... Paired with 3661415 will tell us more:

423661415 = 19980310302909677841...6722695168

And this number is 5943390 digits long (around 6 million).

Wolfram confirms.

I wonder how fast Deep Thought would calculate its digits, because Wolfram is sweating bullets already ;)

Ah, I see how this works. Here's mine: 5 2001-07-20

You take the birthdate and figure out what power to put the favorite number at in order to get a number that starts with the birthday correct? Then that power is the lucky number. Would take some thinking on my part to figure out exactly how to do what I explained up there but at least I understand. Maybe my mom's right and I do actually understand and am good at math.

Wow, these lucky numbers are getting bigger and bigger. Wolfram must been having tough day today... :-P

@@SparklingSwirls:

62521073511 = 19960920...9619140625

But this number is nearly 60 million digits long! (58919009 to be exact)

Wolfram couldn't handle it.

Here's a shorter one, which starts with a two-digit year of birth:

625187238 = 96092052513672143924...9775390625

Only 523495 digits long (half a million), so Wolfram didn't have problems with this one.

Interestingly, both of them also end with your lucky number. Your luck has been officially doubled ;-J

@:

7245539163 = 19960915302909677841...0143310848

And this number is 84581368 digits long (around 84 million!), so Wolfram died.

But for the short format of the date:

723229348 = 96091577686988984155...4685505536

This is 5997973 digits long (around 6 million) and Wolfram agrees.

@:

2538892348 = 19970820...1025390625

Again, too long for Wolfram (54369170 digits, that is, 54 million). For the short date format, though:

252130889 = 97082097203049816822...9697265625

It is 2978854 (2 million) digits long, and here's Wolfram's proof.

Perhaps you should talk with @@SparklingSwirls since they also both end with 625.

Do you know why? What does your lucky number (25) have in common with @@SparklingSwirls's lucky number (625)? :->

@@Rene: Finally something easier ;-J

52099328 = 20010720485754921703...3212890625

It has 1467368 digits (around one and a half million), and here's Wolfram.

And again, 625. Do you know why? ;>

You take the birthdate and figure out what power to put the favorite number at in order to get a number that starts with the birthday correct?

Yes indeedy doodle ;)

In other words: I tell you how many times you need to multiply your lucky number to get a result which starts with your birth date.

Then that power is the lucky number.

Your lucky/favorite number is the base (the number which is being multiplied repeatedly).

The Magic Number I provide is the exponent (the number of times you need to repeat your lucky number in multiplication).

The result starts with your birth date (when put down as decimal digits).

Pretty neat, eh? ;)

The cool thing is that I can do it with virtually any numbers since I figured out how (well, I am limited only by the resources, such as the amount of paper, pencils, computer memory's free space etc.).

Would take some thinking on my part to figure out exactly how to do what I explained up there but at least I understand.

You're actually the first one trying to figure out how my Magic works. Congratulations! I was waiting for someone like you. Here are some tips for you:

1. First try to figure out how do I know the number of digits without actually calculating them. Start with powers of ten (10, 100, 1000...), then their multiples (e.g. 70, 700, 7000), and then arbitrary numbers, and try to figure out the pattern: what connects the exponent with the number of digits?

2. Try to think about what does it actually mean that a number starts with a particular sequence of digits? Start with numbers starting with single digit of your choice, such as 1, then 5 perhaps, and try to observe what ranges of numbers start with that digit and how to write it down as a formula. Then extend it to two digits, three digits etc.

3. As I said, I found this spell in a book by Starswirl the Bearded. His name came from the fact that his hobby was counting big numbers of things (such as stars in the night sky) and he figured out that numbers form an actual swirl: they spin and wrap around. There's a certain place in the number swirl which fulfills the requirement that a number starts with a particular sequence of digits. You just need to put the numbers in a swirling motion and wait for the numbers which fall into that area.

Maybe my mom's right and I do actually understand and am good at math.

Judging by your age, yes, you've understood it pretty well. I don't know any 14-years-olds these days who would understand math so well. In case you wanted to learn more, and some math tricks which aren't being taught at schools, just PM me ;)

Well, no problem for me:

40194330302178 = 19980729...4526847249

but it will definitely stand a problem for Wolfram, since this number is as many as 169818390 decimal digits (nearly 170 million!), so you would have to trust my word on that. Wolfram won't help us.

Shorter date format still works though:

No problem, here you have it, but you won't be able to verify I'm correct, since it's way beyond Wolfram's league...

The longer one is over a BILLION digits long! (to be precise: 1100355314 decimal digits).

I guess you need to find some CRAY supercomputer to check my calculations on that one...

Your entire Magic Number is 8660711, not just 86.

OK, from now on, when Wolfram won't be able to handle the long date, I'll post the link only to the short one by default. But I'll try to keep providing both long and short ones. Just keep in mind that Wolfram won't help you and you're on your own with verifying my calculations. I'm saying that to avoid repeating myself for every reply.
